Passage 1San FranciscoSan Francisco, open your Golden Gate, sang the girl in the theatre. She never finished her song. That date was 18th April, 1906. The earth shook and the roof suddenly divided, buildings crashed to the ground and people rushed out into the streets. The dreadful earthquake destroyed the city that had grown up when men discovered gold in the deserts of California. But today the streets of San Francisco stretch over more than forty steep hills, rising like huge cliffs above the blue waters of the Pacific Ocean. The best way to see this splendid city, where Spanish people were the first to make their homes, is to take one of the old cable cars which run along the nine main avenues. Fares are cheap; they have not risen, I’m told, for almost a hundred years. You leave the palm trees in Union Square --- the heart of San Francisco --- and from the shop signs and the faces around you, you will notice that in the city live people from many nations --- Austrians, Italians, Chinese and others --- giving each part a special character. More Chinese live in China Town than in any other part of the world outside China. Here, with Chinese restaurants, Chinese post-boxes, and even odd telephone-boxes that look like pagodas, it is easy to feel you are in China itself.Fisherman’s Wharf, a place all foreigners want to see, is at the end of the ride. You get out, pause perhaps to help the other travelers to swing the cable car on its turntable (a city custom), and then set out to find a table in one of the gay little restaurants beside the harbor. As you enjoy the fresh Pacific seafood you can admire the bright red paint of the Golden Gate Bridge in the harbor and watch the traffic crossing beneath the tall towers on its way to the pretty village of Tiberon.。

1My Favorite City: San FranciscoHi everyone! I want to tell you all about my favorite city in the whole world - San Francisco! It's an amazing place on the coast of California with so many fun things to see and do. I've been going to San Francisco ever since I was a tiny baby and my family takes me there at least a couple times a year. We love it so much that we're actually thinking about moving there someday! One of the coolest things about San Francisco is all the big hills and how crazy the streets are. I'm not kidding - the roads zigzag all over the place and some of them are SO steep that it feels like you're going straight up or straight down! The windiest street is called Lombard Street and it has eight sharp hairpin turns all squished together. Cars have to go super slow and it's hilarious watching them crawl around the corners. My dad says he would hate having to parallel park on that street! In the middle of San Francisco, there's this really tall hill called Nob Hill. At the top, there are these amazing old housescalled the Pacific Heights Mansions. They're huge Victorian-style places that look like dollhouses or little castles. The rich people who built them a long time ago picked that spot because you can see the entire bay area from up there. Pretty smart!Speaking of seeing things, another awesome part of San Francisco is all the incredible views. Because it's right on the ocean, you can look out across the Pacific and see forever. You can also see the Golden Gate Bridge, which is this massive bright orange suspension bridge stretching across the mouth of the San Francisco Bay. It's over a mile long and driving across it is so cool! My favorite view though is from up at the top of the Coit Tower in the Telegraph Hill neighborhood. You can see the entire city, the bay, the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz Island out in the middle of the water, and even the East Bay across the way. It's breath-taking.Alcatraz used to be this super famous prison surrounded by freezing cold Pacific water to keep anyone from escaping. Now it's a museum that you can tour and see all the old jail cells. I love hearing about the few prisoners who actually did try to swim away - they either drowned or got eaten by great white sharks! Spooky! The Golden Gate Bridge is supposedly haunted too by people who jumped off and you can see their ghosts up there atnight. I'm not sure if I believe in ghosts but it makes the bridge seem extra creepy and fun. When we go to San Francisco, we always make sure to walk around exploring as much as possible. There are all kinds of interesting neighborhoods, each with their own personality. In Chinatown, you feel like you've traveled to a completely different country with all the pagoda roofs, lanterns, and signs in Chinese letters. The best part is all the amazing restaurants - the dim sum is out of this world! The Mission District is the total opposite - it's all bright colors, Mexican culture, and the most delicious tacos, burritos, and tamales you've ever tasted. Then there's the famous Haight-Ashbury neighborhood that used to be the home of the 1960s hippie movement. These days it's still super funky and you can find all kinds of crazy psychedelic art, vintage music stores, and people dressing up in tie-dye everything. I love looking in all the shop windows at the far-out clothes and decorations. There's always a smell of incense and street performers playing guitar on the corners. Such a groovy scene!Downtown San Francisco is all skyscrapers and corporate buildings, with towering structures like the Salesforce Tower and the Transamerica Pyramid. But even downtown has characterthanks to things like the famously crooked Lombard Street. I get such a kick seeing the cars struggle to make those sharp turns! The cable cars that go up and down the steep hills are really neat too. They're like mini old-fashioned trams that have big wheels that grip onto cables underneath the road to pull them up the incredibly slanted streets. Riding the cable cars is a must-do in San Francisco!I could go on forever about all the other awesome parts of the city - the bustling piers along the bay with street food and sea lions barking, Golden Gate Park which is bigger than New York's Central Park and has a Japanese tea garden, and the Ferry Building Marketplace where you can get drool-worthy artisan breads, cheeses, and sweets from all over the world. But I better stop here before this essay gets too long!San Francisco is just the coolest, most interesting, and liveliest city ever in my opinion. No other place has such a unique mix of neighborhoods and cultures, crazy geography, rich history, iconic sights, and fun activities for kids like me. We should all visit as soon as we can! Who's coming with me?篇2My Favorite City: New YorkHi there! My name is Sammy and I'm 10 years old. Today I want to tell you all about my favorite city in the whole wide world - New York City! New York is an amazing place with so much to see and do. I've been lucky enough to visit many times since my parents live nearby. Get ready, because I'm going to take you on a journey through the Big Apple!Let's start in the heart of the city - Manhattan. This long island is home to some of the most famous sights and attractions. One of the first places you have to visit is Times Square. Woah, talk about bright lights and massive billboards! It's like an outdoor television studio with all the cameras and flashing advertisements. I love watching the Naked Cowboy strum his guitar while dressed in just his underwear and boots. So bizarre but so New York! Not far from Times Square is another must-see - Central Park. This gigantic park right in the middle of the city is like an oasis of greenery and nature. You can rent rowboats and paddle around the lake, go cycling on the paths, or just relax on the grass and people watch. The zoo, playgrounds, and iconic bridges like Bow Bridge make Central Park somewhere you could spend days exploring. One of my favorite things to do in Manhattan is walk across the Brooklyn Bridge. This historic suspension bridge connects Manhattan to the borough of Brooklyn over the East River. The Views of the city skyline are just breathtaking from the walkway. I feel so tiny compared to the massive stone towers holding up the bridge!Speaking of tall structures, no visit to New York is complete without seeing the Empire State Building. At over 100 stories tall, it was the highest building in the world for many years. I've gone up to the observation decks before and the panoramic views are dizzying. You can see for miles and miles across the city's endless skyscrapers and streets. So cool! The Statue of Liberty is another iconic NYC landmark I always make sure to visit. You can take a short ferry ride right up to this enormous statue standing guard in the harbor. The statue was actually built in France and given to America as a gift over 100 years ago! It's meant to symbolize liberty and democracy which I think is really neat. While all of those big attractions are awesome, some of my favorite New York memories are just wandering the distinctive neighborhoods. Each area has its own unique flavor and culture. In Little Italy, you can imagine you've been transported toEurope with the tiny winding streets, cafes spilling out onto the sidewalks, and aroma of brick-oven pizzas wafting through the air.SoHo is the polar opposite - an ultra-trendy arts and shopping district filled with chic boutiques and galleries. I love browsing the funky clothing stores and admiring the cool street art and hip crowds of artists.Chinatown is a world unto itself too. Strolling beneath the neon signs and pagoda-style roofs, you're surrounded by dumpling houses, fish markets, and shops selling intricate jade jewelry and lucky waving cat figurines. The atmosphere is like stepping into another dimension!I could go on forever about museums, shows, concerts, and other incredible experiences in the city that never sleeps. But I'll leave you with one last thought - the people watching in New York is like nowhere else on earth. The diversity and flavors of culture are mind-blowing, from hipsters and fashionistas to business people and street performers. Everyone blends together into this brilliant melting pot. It's easy to understand why New York has been immortalized in so many movies, TV shows, songs, and books. The city has a undeniable energy, grit, and cool factor that you can't findanywhere else. Frank Sinatra sang that New York was a "city that never sleeps" and I couldn't agree more! I hope I've given you a little taste of the Big Apple's magic. Now who wants to join me in New York for real?!篇3My Favorite City: San FranciscoSan Francisco is my favorite city in the whole world! It's a magical place with so many fun things to see and do. I've been going there since I was a little kid to visit my grandparents who live in the city. Every time I go, I get more and more excited to explore all the cool neighborhoods and attractions. One of the most famous landmarks in San Francisco is the Golden Gate Bridge. It's this enormous bright orange suspension bridge that stretches across the San Francisco Bay. Whenever I go over the bridge in the car, I roll down the window and feel the cold wind and salty sea air hitting my face. I love seeing the towers of the bridge disappear into the thick marine layer of fog that often blankets the area. It's such an iconic sight!Another spot I really enjoy is Fisherman's Wharf. This waterfront neighborhood is right on the bay and it's always bustling with people, street performers, and lots of fun activities. You can watch marine animals like sea lions at Pier 39, ride a carousel or play arcade games at an indoor amusement park, or eat delicious fresh seafood at one of the many restaurants. My favorite foods are the clam chowder bread bowls and the Ghirardelli hot fudge sundaes! The wharf also has awesome views of Alcatraz Island, the infamous former prison, sitting out in the middle of the bay.Speaking of islands, one time my family took a ferry ride out to Angel Island which is another island in the bay. We went on a hiking trail that went all the way around the perimeter and had amazing views looking back towards downtown San Francisco's skyscrapers poking up behind the Golden Gate Bridge. We even spotted some deer roaming on the island! It was a gorgeous sunny day and we had a picnic underneath the trees. I'll never forget that island adventure. While Angel Island was beautiful, my true favorite outdoor space is Golden Gate Park. This enormous park right in the heart of the city feels like an urban oasis of green meadows, wooded trails, pretty little lakes, and incredible gardens. You could spend days exploring all of its attractions like the Japanese Tea Garden, Conservatory of Flowers, de Young Museum, Academy of Sciences museum and rainforest exhibit, botanical gardens, buffalo paddock, windmills, playgrounds, and more! My family loves going to the park each time we visit.Another neighborhood I always make sure to stop in is Chinatown. Walking down the dense streets decorated with lanterns, pagodas, and Chinese calligraphy makes me feel like I'm in an entirely different world. The stores sell so many fascinating items like jade jewelry, Chinese herbs and teas, intricate wood carvings, incense, and fun toys and knick knacks. And the smells of the restaurants cooking up dim sum, Peking duck, and other Chinese delicacies are just mouth-watering. My taste buds jump for joy whenever we eat in Chinatown!Since San Francisco is right on the water, spending time along the coast is a must. One of my favorite beaches is Baker Beach because of its stunning views looking east towards the Golden Gate Bridge, with the rugged Marin Headlands providing a gorgeous backdrop. I love hunting for sand dollars, building sandcastles, and dipping my toes into the frigid Pacific Ocean when I visit this beach. Sometimes you can even watch container ships cruising beneath the bridge on their way out to sea.No visit to San Francisco would be complete without going to one of the diverse, artsy neighborhoods like Haight-Ashbury or the Mission District. These areas have the coolest independentboutiques, thrift stores, funky street art and murals, music clubs, bookstores, cafes, and just such an eclectic, creative vibe overall. People-watching is prime in these bohemian 'hoods where you'll see punks, hippies, hipsters, and people of all backgrounds and walks of life intermingling. I always feel so inspired after spending an afternoon in one of these districts. With its iconic sights, stunning outdoor spaces, rich cultural diversity, and endless supply of food and attractions, it's no wonder why I adore San Francisco so much. The city by the bay has captured my heart and cultivated my sense of curiosity and wonder about the world around me from a very young age. I can't wait until I'm older so I can explore San Francisco on my own and uncover even more of its magic and charm! This metropolitan jewel will forever be near and dear to me.篇4My Awesome CityHi there! My name is Sam and I'm going to tell you all about my favorite city in the whole wide world – the place where I live! It's such an amazing place, with so many cool things to see and do. Buckle up, because we're going on an adventure!First things first, let me tell you about the buildings in my city. They're super tall, like giants reaching up to touch the clouds! Some of them have fancy glass walls that sparkle in the sunlight, while others are made of concrete and steel. The skyscrapers make me feel so tiny, but in a good way – it's like being surrounded by enormous friendly giants. And oh man, the parks in my city are the best! There are tons of them, with huge grassy areas perfect for running around, playing catch, or having a picnic. Some of the parks even have playgrounds with swings, slides, and monkey bars. My favorite is Central Park – it's massive, with lakes, trails, and even a zoo! On sunny days, the park is packed with people playing frisbee, walking their dogs, or just relaxing on the grass.Speaking of animals, we have so many cool ones in my city! Sure, there are the usual squirrels and birds, but we also have raccoons, opossums, and even coyotes roaming around. Once, I saw a huge hawk swoop down and catch a rat right in front of me! It was equal parts amazing and totally gross. The food in my city is out of this world. We have restaurants from every corner of the globe, so you can get delicious pizza, tacos, sushi, curry, you name it! My personal favorite is the hot dog carts – there's nothing better than a hot dog piled high withmustard and relish after a long day of playing outside. The smells wafting from the food trucks will make your mouth water like crazy. And let's not forget about all the fun stuff to do! We have amazing museums with dinosaur skeletons, ancient artifacts, and cool interactive exhibits. The aquarium is incredible, with huge glass tunnels you can walk through surrounded by sharks, rays, and colorful fish. We also have the most amazing zoo, where you can see lions, elephants, giraffes, and so many other wild animals.I could go on and on about the tall bridges, the honking cars and taxis, the bright lights at night, and all the other amazing things that make my city so special. But I think you get the idea –it's a pretty awesome place to call home! Wherever you're from, you've gotta come visit sometime. Just be warned: you might never want to leave!篇5My Favorite City: San FranciscoHave you ever been to San Francisco? It's the most amazing city ever! I love visiting my cousins who live there. San Francisco has so many fun things to see and do. Let me tell you all about it!The first thing you notice in San Francisco is the huge bridges. The Golden Gate Bridge is bright orange and stretches across the bay. It's really long - over a mile! You can walk or bike across it. The other big bridge is the Bay Bridge which connects San Francisco to Oakland. At night, the Bay Bridge lights up with beautiful white lights. Both bridges are super tall too so huge ships can pass underneath.Downtown San Francisco has the craziest streets I've ever seen. The roads are incredibly steep hills that go straight up and down. Some are so steep that they have stairs along the sides for people to walk up! The twistiest street is called Lombard Street. It has eight hairpin turns all in a row. It's fun to drive down, but I get dizzy just looking at it. My cousin says the steep hills are why San Francisco has so many cable cars. They are theseold-fashioned trolley cars that get pulled up and down the big hills by huge underground cables. Riding the cable cars is a blast!Another awesome thing about San Francisco is all the different neighborhoods. Each one has its own flavors, sights, and culture. Chinatown is packed with shops, markets, and amazing dim sum restaurants. The sidewalks are always buzzing with people. In the Mission District, you'll find the best burritos and tacos. The murals painted on the buildings are so colorfuland pretty. Then there's Haight-Ashbury, the old hippie neighborhood with funky stores and houses painted in rainbows. My favorite is Fisherman's Wharf though. There are street performers, music, delicious sourdough bread bowls filled with clam chowder, and you can see families of sea lions barking and sunbathing! No visit to San Francisco is complete without seeing the Golden Gate Park. It's a huge park right in the heart of the city with gardens, playgrounds, museums, a Japanese tea garden, and even a paddleboat lake! One time we rented a rowboat and went around the lake. Another time, we walked through the Japanese gardens and drank hot green tea. My cousins also took me to the California Academy of Sciences which is an awesome museum about nature and animals. They have an indoor rainforest and a cool alligator exhibit.San Francisco has the quirkiest mix of people, houses, and things. The homes are packed together in rows and painted every color of the rainbow. One house will be bright blue and the next one will be orange or green. The architecture is a funky blend of Victorian rowhouses and modern skyscrapers. People just seem to express themselves however they want in San Francisco. You'll see people dressed like punks or hippiesalongside business people in suits. There are artists, musicians, and performers on every street corner. I even saw a guy who painted himself totally gold from head to toe and stood perfectly still so people thought he was a statue! San Francisco has to be the most unique city I've ever visited. The weather in San Francisco is pretty crazy too. One minute it will be warm and sunny. Then suddenly, a thick fog rolls in off the Pacific Ocean. You can't even see a few feet in front of you! That's why San Francisco has its world-famous fog horns that bellow out when it gets foggy so boats don't crash. The fog usually burns off by the afternoon though. That's when everyone heads to the beach. There are awesome sandy beaches right inside the city limits. I love going to Baker Beach and climbing on the rocks at low tide to look at the tide pools. Once I even saw a group of people hang gliding off the cliffs over the ocean! No wonder San Francisco is one of the best cities for outdoorsy people.I hope I've convinced you to visit San Francisco someday if you haven't already! Between the colorful neighborhoods, breathtaking bridges, incredible food, fun parks, and eccentric people - there's something for everyone in this awesome city. Just watch out for the crazy hills and the fog!篇6My Favorite City: San FranciscoSan Francisco is the most amazing city in the whole world! It's a city right on the Pacific Ocean in the state of California. San Francisco has so many cool things to see and do. I'm going to tell you all about my favorite parts of the city. The Golden Gate Bridge is probably the most famous thing in San Francisco. It's this huge, bright orange suspension bridge that stretches across the bay. Whenever I go over the Golden Gate Bridge in the car, I stare out the window in awe. The bridge seems to go on forever across the water! On a clear day, you can see for miles across the bay to Oakland and Berkeley on the other side. But if it's foggy, the bridge almost disappears into the thick mist. It's magical!Another of my favorite San Francisco sights is the Palace of Fine Arts. This is a huge, gorgeous building left over from the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, which was a world's fair. The Palace looks like a Roman ruin, with tall columns and domed roofs. But it's not actually ancient at all! There's a lagoon in front where ducks and geese love to swim around. Myfamily enjoys walking the trails that loop around the lagoon and taking pictures of the amazing Palace in the background.Speaking of lagoons, no trip to San Francisco is complete without visiting Japantown. The Japanese Peace Plaza has a big peace pagoda, a zen garden, and a lagoon full of those big koi fish! The koi are orangey and white with black patterns, and they're absolutely humongous. Bigger than some small dogs! You can buy little fish food pellets to toss into the water and watch the koi go wild snapping them up. Just be careful not to fall in!My favorite view of San Francisco is from on top of one of its incredibly steep hills. My dad has driven us up to the tops of hills like Russian Hill and Nob Hill. The entire city stretches out below you, with the downtown skyscrapers, San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz Island, and the Golden Gate Bridge all laid out in front of you. It's literally breathtaking! I like to imagine myself as a giant, towering over the miniature-looking city below. No city has quirkier neighborhoods than San Francisco. One of the most unusual is the world-famous Haight-Ashbury district. This is the neighborhood where the 1960s hippie counterculture blossomed. It's filled with wildly painted Victorian houses, funky stores selling tie-dye clothes and accessories, and people whoare still hippies to this day! You'll see old VW buses painted with psychedelic designs and hear bands playing Grateful Dead songs on the street corners. It feels like being transported back to 1967!But my absolute favorite neighborhood is North Beach, which is San Francisco's Little Italy. The sights, sounds, and incredible smells make you feel like you've traveled all the way to Italy without ever leaving California. Strings of Italian flags and lights crisscross over the narrow streets. Tiny delis sell fresh bread, cheeses, olives, and of course tons of varieties of pasta. Best of all are the restaurants with sidewalk patios where singing performers serenade you while you dine on authentic Italian pizza, pasta, and gelato. When I eat at North Beach, I pretend I'm in Rome or Venice!San Francisco has so many other cool attractions that it would take me forever to describe them all. There's the winding zig-zag turns of Lombard Street, the creepy Alcatraz federal prison on an island in the bay, the rowdy rambunctious sea lions that hang out on Pier 39, and beautiful Golden Gate Park full of botanical gardens, museums, and a Japanese tea garden. And I haven't even mentioned the iconic cable cars that are the City's moving national landmarks! What I love most about San Francisco is how the city brings the whole world to California. You've got Chinatown, Japantown, the Mission District full of Mexican culture, Russian bakeries, and food from what seems like every country on Earth. The diversity is endless! And the weather is incredible too - maybe a little bit of fog in the morning, but then sunshine and mild temperatures in the afternoons. It's absolutely perfectville.San Francisco isn't just my favorite city - it's one of the most fascinating, vibrant, unique places on the entire planet. Between the stunning natural scenery, the landmarks and architecture, the atmosphere and character of every neighborhood, and the amazing mix of different cultures and influences, there's absolutely no place like it. I feel so lucky to live near San Francisco and I can't wait to go back and explore more of its wonderful sights and secrets. The City by the Bay is truly a jewel, and that's why it will always be my number one favorite city!。

旧⾦⼭英⽂介绍San Francisco旧⾦⼭英⽂导游词⽤英语介绍旧⾦⼭San FranciscoSan Francisco was once simply Yerba Buena (Good Herb), a Spanish fishing village with a population of 400, set on a large natural harbour. About 75 years later, when the West Coast region became US territory in 1847, it was renamed San Francisco, after the old Franciscan mission nearby. The city quickly mushroomed – the Gold Rush of 1849 inspiring a migration so rapid that seekers almost fell into the Pacific, in their desperation for a new life. The population soared to more than 300,000.They came from the west but also from the east – thousands of people escaped famine in China for a hard life on the railroads, which were created to connect the isolated city with the rest of the country, a project completed in 1869. During this time, Chinese workers were subjected to appalling discriminatory laws. Japanese immigrants came, too, but settled separately, establishing their own businesses in the Western Addition neighbourhood and, later, what is now Japantown. Chinatown and Japantown now constitute the biggest Asian enclave outside Asia, and the city today takes pride in its diverse population and has come to be known for its tolerance overall. Also changing the landscape of the city was the devastating earthquake of 1906, the fires of which all but levelled its wooden Victorian homes – a handful that survived are the city’s famed and colourful ‘Painted Ladies’ in Alamo Square.Ever resilient, San Franciscans rebuilt their city on the sea. In place of horse-drawn streetcars that traversed Russian and Nob Hills, the introduction of cable cars at the approach of the 20th century changed the way residents got around. When the Golden Gate Bridge opened in 1937, it charted yet another horizon for man and nature working as one and soon becoming the symbol of a city that has it all.Modern San Francisco retains its relationship between materialism and money on the one hand and cutting-edge thought and progressive politics on the other. In the 1950s, the bohemian Beat movement grew up and out of San Francisco’s Little Italy neighbourhood of North Beach, which helped foster the city’s importance in the arts. The counter culture flowered in the Haight Ashbury neighbourhood (now just called the Haight) during the 1967 Summer of Love and the gay community fought for and found a home in Castro and Polk Street, where they could live openly and happily. The city saw rapid growth in dotcom industries (located South of Market, and in nearby Silicon Valley) and has now recovered from downturns in that same area. San Francisco is the financial capital of the West Coast and once a prime shipping gateway to the Pacific, although most cargo ships now head for Oakland.Tourism is the key industry and nets San Francisco billions of dollars each year. The Bay, which fits neatly between the Golden Gate Bridge to the west and the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge to the east, is home to 14 small islands, including Alcatraz, Angel, Yerba Buena and Treasure. These can be the perfect escape from the city.San Francisco has a mild year-round climate but it should not be confused with hot and sunny Southern California. As a testament to the moderate temperature, many homes do not have central heating systems and outdoor dining may be enjoyed almost year-round, thanks to the frequent use of outdoor patio heaters. A handy rain- and wind-resistant coat is always advised for those foggy, chilly days.Tolerance for all ways of life is perhaps the city’s keynote, and people are constantly reinventing themselves. A city of cultural diversity ever since the Gold Rush days, San Francisco is not a melting pot, but a salad bowl. Her irresistible charm that captivates all who visit is perfectly echoed in the words of the song ‘I Left My Heart in San Francisco’.One would be hard pressed to name another city positioned so glamorously, between the ocean and Sierra Nevada mountains to the east and west and redwood forests and the California desert to the north and south. Alistair Cooke, the British-born commentator, summed up this most beautiful and breathtaking of American cities as a ‘fortuitous mating of marine grandeur and terrestrial snugness’. It remains the best summation on record, of this city, perched precipitously at the edge of the world.

San Francisco

San Francisco

My Awesome CityI live in the most awesome city in the whole wide world! It's called San Francisco and it's in California, which is one of the coolest states. San Francisco is right on the Pacific Ocean, and it has the prettiest views of the sparkling blue water and ships sailing by.But that's not the only cool thing about San Francisco. It's one of the hilliest cities you'll ever see! The streets just go up and down and up and down like a crazy rollercoaster. When I'm in the backseat of my mom's car going down one of the steep hills, my stomach does flip-flops and I feel like I'm dropping from way up high. Wheee! Some of the hills are so tilted and bendy that they've got special names like Lombard Street. That's the craziest, curviest road I've ever seen. It zigzags down the hill in these tight turns like a giant snake slithering around. People come from all over just to drive down that nutty street and get their minds blown by how twisty it is.Another awesome thing is that San Francisco has cable cars! They're these awesome old-school tram vehicles that get pulledup and down the hilly streets by big underground cables instead of an engine. I love riding them and leaning out to get a good view as we slowly clank up and down the crazy inclines. You can hop on and off wherever you want, and they take you to all the cool neighborhoods to explore.Speaking of neighborhoods, San Francisco has some of the most vibrant and colorful ones around. My favorite is the Mission District, which is basically one big, bright mural covering the whole area. All the walls are decorated with huge, intricate graffiti paintings showing people's faces, animals, landscapes, and anything else you can imagine. The artists must have spent forever carefully spraying all those wildly detailed images. I could spend hours just studying them all up close. Then there's Chinatown, which feels like you've suddenly teleported to China as soon as you walk through the giant ceremonial gateway. All the shops have awnings and signs with Chinese lettering, there are red paper lanterns swaying in the wind, and you can smell all the gingery, garlicky cooking aromas wafting out of the restaurants and markets. It makes my mouth water just thinking about the delicious dumplings! And I can't forget about the Golden Gate Bridge, which is probably San Francisco's most famous landmark. This massivebright orange suspension bridge spans all the way across the mouth of the San Francisco Bay, supported by two giant towers. Whenever I get to walk or drive across it, I feel like I'm on top of the world with the sweeping views of the blue waters and rolling hills on both sides. If I'm really lucky, I might even see whales breaching out in the bay!But the absolute coolest thing about San Francisco has to be the Golden Gate Park right in the heart of the city. This sprawling park is like a lush, rolling green forest smack dab in the middle of the urban jungle. Within its 1,000+ acres, you can find gardens, playgrounds, trails, lakes, museums, and so much more!My favorite spot is the Japanese Garden, with its pagodas, bonsai trees, stepping stone paths, and beautiful arched bridges over streams teeming with chunky koi fish. I love meditating and breathing in the fresh air while small waterfalls trickle nearby. It's such a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle outside the park's walls. There's also an amazing science museum called the Exploratorium with more hands-on exhibits and experiments than you can shake a stick at. You can explore everything from optical illusions to living termite colonies to electricity and magnetism. One time, I made my hair stand straight up byshuffling my feet on the carpet and then touching a metal globe! My favorite was the pitch-black maze where you have to feel your way through the darkness and come out the other side. And that's just the beginning! The park also has gardens bursting with every plant and flower imaginable, ancient windmills, strawberry fields, lakes with paddleboats and rowboats, remnants of the old 1915 World's Fair, and an honest-to-goodness buffalo paddock with a small herd of shaggy beasts grazing around. Wherever I go in that wonderland, there's always some new surprise waiting around the next turn of the trail.See what I mean? San Francisco is hands-down the most unique, endlessly entertaining city for a kid to call home. With its stunning scenery, crazy-steep roads, cable cars, colorful neighborhoods, amazing parks, and cultural melting pot of people and food, I'm always stumbling into new adventures around every corner. I feel so lucky to live in such a magical, one-of-a-kind place. San Francisco may be small and compact, but it's absolutely brimming with awesome sights and hidden gems that never fail to blow my mind. That's why it will always be my favorite city on the planet!。

The Conservatorium at Golden Gate Park
Whenever something is clearly impossible, San Franciscans seem determined to do it, and Golden Gate Park is living proof. In 1866, forward-thinking San Franciscan citizens petitioned City Hall in 1865 with an impossible demand: to transform 1017 acres of sand dunes into parkland. The idea of turning such a huge size of sandy land into a green venture even scared off New York’s Central Park designer Frederick Law Olmstead. Instead it was a young, valiant San Franciscan engineer, William Hammond Hall, who took on the 20-year project
Alcatraz and San Francisco City Tour
Today, the island's facilities are managed by the National Park Service as part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area; it is open to tours. Visitors can reach the island by ferry ride from Pier 33, near Fisherman's Wharf, San Francisco. Hornblower Cruises and Events, operating under the name Alcatraz Cruises, is the official ferry provider to and from the island. San Francisco Museum of Modern Art
There are regular, free gallery tours, but exploring on your own gives you the thrill of discovery, which is what this museum is about. The 3rd-floor photography galleries are the place to begin, then up through the 4th- and 5th-floor majorcontemporary exhibits, catching your breath outdoors at the 5th-floor rooftop sculpture garden. From here, work your way down through the galleries via the dramatic stairwell to espresso and strawberry-rhubarb crisp at the ground-floor cafe. Tack on additional time for the excellent SFMOMA shop.

Fog is a regular feature of San Francisco summers
• A popular quote incorrectly attributed to Mark Twain is "The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in San Francisco." San Francisco's climate is characteristic of the cool-summer Mediterranean climate of California’s coast, "generally characterized by moist mild winters and dry summers." Since it is surrounded on three sides by water, San Francisco's weather is strongly influenced by the cool currents of the Pacific Ocean, which moderates temperature swings and produces a remarkably mild year-round climate with little seasonal temperature variation
Secret sights of San Francisco
San Francisco is known the world over for its beauty, its open-mindedness and its weirdness. So it should be no surprise that the City by the Bay is chock full of strange and unique secrets. Below are just a few of favourite known only to locals, and only the locals that really explore their own back yard.
Golden Gate Bridge
• The Golden Gate Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Golden Gate, the opening of the San Francisco Bay into the Pacific Ocean. As part of both U.S. Route 101 and California State Route 1, the structure links the city of San Francisco, on the northern tip of the San Francisco Peninsula, to Marin County. It is one of the most internationally recognized symbols of San Francisco, California, and the United States. It has been declared one of the Wonders of the Modern World by the American Society of Civil Engineers. The Frommers travel guide considers the Golden Gate Bridge "possibly the most beautiful, certainly the most photographed, bridge in the world".
