By watching TV,children learn ______ .A. images through wordsB. more than explicit meaningsC. more about images than wordsD. little about people's psychology28. An educational program is best watched by a child ______ .A. on his ownB. with other kidsC. with his parentsD. with his teachers29. Which of the following is most related to children's reading ability? ______A. Radio-listeningB. Television-watchingC. Parents'reading listD. Parents'educational background30. Anderson believed that ______ .A. the more a child watches TV,the smarter he isB. the younger a child is,the more he watches TVC. the smarter a child is,the less likely he gets addicted to TVD. the less a child watches TV,the better he performs at school31. What is the main purpose of the passage? ______A. To advise on the educational use of TV.B. To describe TV's harmful effects on children.C. To explain traditional views on TV influences.D. To present Anderson's unconventional ideas.DIt was once common to regard Britain as a society with class distinction. Each class had unique characteristics. In recent years, many writers have begun to speak the'decline of class'and'classless society'in Britain. And in modern day consumer society everyone is considered to be middle class. But pronouncing the death of class is too early.A recent wide-ranging society of public opinion found 90percent of people still placing themselves in particular class; 73percent agreed that class was still a vital part of British society; and 52percent thought there were still sharp class differences. Thus, class may not be culturally and politically obvious, yet it remains an important part of British society.Britain seems to have a love of stratification. One unchanging aspect of a British person's class position is accent. The words a person speaks tell her or his class.A study of British accents during 1970s found that a voice sounding like a BBC newsreader was viewed as the most attractive voice,Most people said this accent sounded'educated'and'soft'.The accents placed at the bottom in this study,on the other hand, were regional(地区的)city accents. These accents were seen as'common'and'ugly'.However,a similar study of British accents in the US turned these results upside down and placed some regional accents as the most attractive and BBC English as the least. This suggests that British attitudes towards accent have deep roots and are based on class prejudice. In recent years, however, young upper middle-class people in London, have begun to adopt some regional accents,in order to hide their class origins. This is an indication of class becoming unnoticed. However, the 1995pop song'Common People'puts forward the view that though a middle-class person may'want to live like common people'they can never appreciate the reality of a working-class life.32. A recent study of public opinion shows that in modern Britain ______ .A. it is time to end class distinctionB. most people belong to middle classC. it is easy to recognize a person's classD. people regard themselves socially different33. The word stratification in Paragraph 3 is closest in meaning to ______ .A. varietyB. most people belong to middle classC. authorityD. qualification34. The study in the US showed that BBC English was regarded as ______ .A. regionalB. educatedC. prejudicedD. unattractive35. British attitudes towards accent ______ .A. have a long traditionB. are based on regional statusC. are shared by the AmericansD. have changed in recent years36. What is the main idea of the passage? ______A. The middle class is expandingB. A person's accent reflects his classC. Class is a key part of British societyD. Each class has unique characteristics.37. 首先阅读下列活动介绍:A BA Night of Glamor and Intrigue at ShanghaiBund in 1930To celebrate Asia heritage month ,Trendy New York is proud to present"Cheongsam Night out-A date with Cheongsam beauties in Shanghai Bund 1930". Is it food for your heart? Does it increase blood pressure? Does it help you concentrate? However, coffee affects the health of the human p opulation in other ways, too.Traditionally, coffee bushes were planted under the canopy(树冠)of taller indigenous(土生土长的)trees. However, more and more farmers inLatin America are deforesting the land to grow full-sun coffees. At first, this increases production because more coffee bushes can be planted ifthere aren’t any trees. With increased production come i ncreased profits.Unfortunately, deforesting for coffee production immediately decreases local-wildlife habitat. Native birds nest and hide frompredators(捕食者)in the tall trees and migrating birds rest there.Furthermore, in the long term, the full-sun method also damages the ecosystem because more chemical fertilizers and pesticides are neededto grow the coffee. The fertilizers and pesticides kill insects that eat coffee plant, but then the birds eat the poisoned insects and also die.The chemicals kill or sicken other animals as well, and can even enterthe water that people will eventually drink.Fortunately, farmers in Central and South America are beginning togrow more coffee bushes in the shade. We can support these farmers bybuying coffee with such labels as "shade grown" and "bird friendly." Sure, these varieties might cost a little more. But we're paying for the health of the birds, the land, ourselves, and the planet. I think it's worthit.31.【题干】What is the main idea of this passage?【选项】A.Farmers are changing the way they grow coffee.B.Coffee is becoming more expensive to produce.C.Shade-grow coffee is more expensive than sun-grow coffee.D.People should buy shade-grown coffee.【答案】A32.【题干】The function of the word "Traditionally" in Paragraph 2 isto show_____.【选项】A.the positive effects of coffee.B.a change of coffee growth.C.something that is the most important.D.how coffee production used to be.【答案】B33.【题干】What does increased production of full-sun coffee bring about?【选项】A.More insects.B.Better quality coffee.rger farms.D.Higher profits.【答案】D34.【题干】How d o farmers find more land for growing full-sun coffee?【选项】A.They buy more land from other farmers.B.They cut down trees.C.They move to another country.D.They turn grassland into farmland.【答案】B35.【题干】The full-sun method may affect the following EXCEPT_____【选项】A.insects.B.air.C.brids.D.humans.【答案】B第二篇:Washoe Learned American Sign LanguageAn animal that influenced scientific thought has died. A chimpanzee named Washoe and born in Africa died of natural causes late last monthat the age of 42 at a research center in the American state of Washington. Washoe h ad become k nown in the scientific community and around the world for her ability to use American Sign Language. She was said to be thefirst non-human to learn a human l anguage. Her skills also led to debate about primates and their ability to understand language.Research scientists Allen and Beatrix Gardner began teaching Washoe sign language in 1966.In 1969, the Gardners described Washoe's progress in a scientific report. The people who experimented with Washoe s aid she grew to understand about 250 words. For example, Washoe made signs to communicate when i t was time to eat. She could request foods like apples and bananas. She also asked questions like," Who i s coming to play?" Once the news about Washoe spread, many language scientists began studies oftheir own into this new a nd exciting area of research. The whole directionof primate research changed. However, critics argued Washoe o nly learned to repeat sign language movements from watching her teachers. They said she had never developedtrue language skills. Even now, there are some researchers who suggestthat primates learn sign language only by memory, and perform the signsonly for prizes. Yet Washoe's keepers disagree. Roger Fouts is a formerstudent of the Gardners. He took Washoe to a research center in Ellensburg, Washington. There, Washoe taught sign language to three younger chimpanzees, which are still alive.Scientists like private researcher Jane Goodall believe Washoerprovided new information about the mental workings of chimpanzees. Today, there are not as many scientists studying language skills withchimps. Part of the reason is that this kind of research takes a verylong time.Debate continues about chimps understanding of human c ommunication. Yet, one thing is sure-Washoe changed popular ideas about the possibilities of animal intelligence.36.【题干】The Gardners' experiment with Washoe_____.【选项】A.began in 1969.B.won a big prize.sted three yearsD.influenced primate research【答案】D【查看文字解析>>】37. 【题干】The second paragraph mainly discusses _____.【选项】A.a report about Washoe's progress in learning sign language.B.the whole direction of primate research.C.new primate researches conducted by many language scientific.D.an experiment with Washoe at a research center in Africa.【答案】A【查看文字解析>>】38. 【题干】The Gardners' experiment with Washoe was criticized because _____.【选项】A.just ask some simple question.B.only copy teachers' sign language.C.only memorize about 250 words.D.just repeat short sentences.【答案】B【查看文字解析>>】39. 【题干】According to the passage ,which of the following is true?【选项】A.Roger Fouts taught sign language to three younger chimpanzees.B.Washoe was the first chim to use American Sign Language.C.A chimpanzee died of natural causes in Africa at a research center.D.Nowadays there are still lots of scientists experimenting with chimpanzees.【答案】B40. 【题干】We can draw a conclusion from the last paragraph that_____.【选项】A.whether chimps can learn a human language remains unanswer.B.primates have the ability to speak a language.C.animals can's learn a human sign.D.Washoe is as intelligent as humans.【答案】C第三篇:Moderate Earthquake Strikes EnglandA moderate earthquake struck parts of southeast England on 28 April2007, toppling chimneys from houses and rousing residents from their beds.

The experts say HIV has an almost perfect ability to avoid the body's immune (免疫的) defenses, making it ideal for carrying replacement genes into patients' bodies, according to the Observer.A team at the California-based Salk Institute, one of the world's leading research centers on biological sciences, has created a special new breed of HIV and has started negotiations with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to begin clinical gene therapy (治疗) trials this year. The first trials are expected to involve patients suffering from cancers that cannot be cured by surgery although project leader Professor Inder Verma said the HIV technique would have "far wider applications".The plan remains very likely to cause controversy since it involves making use of a virus which has caused more than 22 million deaths around the world in the past two decades. Verma said that the idea of using HIV for a beneficial purpose was "shocking" but the fierce nature of HIV had disappeared by having all six of the potentially deadly genes removed.Illnesses such as various cancers are caused when a gene in a patient's body fails to workproperly. In the past two years, breakthroughs in genetics (遗传学) have led gene therapy scientists to try and replace the genes that do not function normally.Unfortunately, the body's immune defenses have been known to attack the modified genes and make them lose their effects before they can start their task and progress in the field has been held up by the lack of a suitable carrier. The HIV virus has the ability to escape from, and then destroy, the immune defense cells designed to protect our bodies and this makes it attractive to scientists as a way of secretly conveying replacement genes into patients' bodies.16. FDA has approved the plan of using HIV to cure cancer in humans.A. Right B. Wrong C. Not mentioned17. The idea of using HIV for a beneficial purpose has been widely accepted.A. Right B. Wrong C. Not mentioned18. HIV can be safely used to cure cancer only if the deadly genes have been removed.A. Right B. Wrong C. Not mentioned19. The HIV virus is an excellent warrior to fight the body's immune cells.A. Right B. Wrong C. Not mentioned20. Other countries are also expected to begin clinical gene therapy trials soon.A. Right B. Wrong C. Not mentioned21. It is the lack of money that has held up the progress in using replacement genes to cure cancer.A. Right B. Wrong C. Not mentioned22. The HIV virus has caused more deaths in developed countries.A. Right B. Wrong C. Not mentioned第3部分:概括大意与完成句子The Drink Your Body Needs Most1 Our bodies are estimated to be about 60% to 70% water. Blood is mostly water, and our muscles, lungs, and brain all contain a lot of water. Water is needed to regulate body temperature and to provide the means for nutrients (滋养物) to travel to all our organs. Water also transports oxygen to our cells, removes waste, and protects our joints and organs.2 We lose water through urination (排尿), respiration (呼吸), and by sweating. If you are very active, you lose more water than if you do not take much exercise. Symptoms of mild dehydration (脱水) include chronic pains in joints and muscles, lower back pain, headaches, and constipation (便秘). A strong smell to your urine, along with a yellow color indicates that you are not getting enough water. Thirst is an obvious sign of dehydration and in fact, you need water long before you feel thirsty.3 A good rule of thumb (好的做法) is to take your body weight in pounds and divide that number in half. That gives you the number of ounces (盎司) of water per day that you need. For example, if you weigh 160 pounds, you should drink at least 80 ounces of water per day. If you exercise you should drink another 8-ounce glass of water for every 20 minutes you are active. If you drink coffee or alcohol, you should add at least an equal amount of water. When you are traveling on an airplane, it is good to have 8 ounces of water for every hour you are on board the plane.4 It may be difficult to drink enough water on a busy day. Be sure you have water handy at all times by keeping a bottle for water with you when you are working, traveling, or exercising. If you get bored with plain water, add a bit of lemon for a touch of flavor. There are some brands of flavored water available, but some of them have sugar or artificial sweeteners that you don't need.23. A. Ounces of water needed per day B. Importance of water C. Composition of water D. Signs of dehydration E. Supply of water F. Necessity for bringing a bottle for water Paragraph 1 ______24. Paragraph 2 ______25. Paragraph 3 ______26. Paragraph 4 ______27. A. in your body B. without water C. before long D. for a change E. on a busy day F. to your weight One cannot live ______.28. Dehydration may occur if there is a shortage of water ______.29. The amount of water your body needs per day is related ______.30. Don't forget to drink enough water even ______.第4部分:阅读理解下面有3篇短文,每篇短文后有5道题。
