高一(初升高)英语衔接阅读理解作业10英语阅读AIf you look at the top of your phone, you'll usually see a little symbol that says 3G or 4G. The "G" stands for the "generation" (代)of your mobile network. But the symbols will become things of the past after 5G networks fully arrive. On March 30, Shanghai vice-mayor Wu Qing made the first 5G video call on a Huawei Mate X Smartphone. Shanghai has also become the first city in China to start testing 5G networks.About 100 times faster than 4G networks, 5G will let people download and upload data(数据) faster than ever before. But 5G won't just bring faster mobile internet. People can use it for many other things as well. For example, 5G will help to make self-driving cars safer. Today's self-driving test cars have one problem-lag(延迟). When the car "sees" an obstacle(障碍物), it sends this information to a data center and receives instructions, However, it will be some time before it sends and receives this information. With this kind of lag, the cars might crash because they don't receive instructions in time. With 5G, this lag will be greatly lowered, making the cars safer.5G could also be used to power the internet of things (IoT), that is, a large online network that connects all things and people. Fast internet speeds will be the key to developing this technology. The IoT could be used in a lot of ways. For example, with IoT, your refrigerator could automatically (自动地) place an order online for eggs when it finds that there are no eggs left inside. (1)Which city was 5G tested for the first time?A. Beijing.B. Shanghai.C. Shenzhen.(2)What can we infer(推测) according to the passage?.A. 5G is widely used in China now.B. 5G networks will make our lives more convenient.C. By the end of 2019, more than a third of the global population will be using a smartphone. However, smartphone technology can be a double-edged sword. On the one hand, itsends us unlimited amounts of information. On the other hand, using a smartphone may become an addiction.Erik Peper and Richard Harvey are both health education professors at San Francisco State university. They led the study. Peper explains that smartphone addiction forms connections in the brain that are similar to drug addiction. And these connections form slowly over time. Also, addiction to social media may affect our emotional state. The two professors asked 135 university students about their habit of smartphone use and their feelings. They found that students who used their phones the most reported higher levels of feeling lonely, depressed and anxious. Peper and Harvey do not blame users for their technology addiction. They believe it is the tech industry's desire to make more money that is to blame for the technology addiction. The researchers warm that workers in the technology industry know how to control our brains and turn us into addicts. But the researchers say that we can limit our brains to be less addicted to our phones and computers. Enk Peper suggests timing off our phones before we sleep or do something important. The researchers also suggest taking control of when and where you answer texts or emails. You do not need to answer them all. And you certainly don't need to answer them as soon as you get them. They also suggest putting limits on the time you spend on social media. If you want to catch up with friends on Facebook, set aside a small amount of time to it. You should focus on important tasks and do not allow technology to disturb you.(1)What can we infer from Paragraph 1?A. Smartphone use has become extremely common.B. It's thought that the number of teenagers with mental illness around the world will increase by half by 2020. It seemed you knew less and less. That is because when you learned a new concept(概念). You found that there was a lot more to know about it.Usually, people think they need to get more and more information before trying a new idea. There is nothing wrong with learning a lot, but when you let learning get in the way of doing, you will never get going. One of the best ways to learn is to take action and learn from the results that you get from those actions. People also think the temperature inside white cars is lower than that in cars of other colors. At present, every year about 11 percent of cars sold are red and 8 percent are blue. Green has become less popular. In the mid 1990s, green was the most popular color in many places of the world. These seem to be the most important basic needs in their lives. However, it's far from enough. We have to come up with better ideas.A man called Nicholas Negroponte invented a cheap laptop computer, which he decided to invent after he visited a school in Cambodia. The laptop which Mr. Negroponte has designed is not the same as the normal one that you can buy in the shops. One difference is that it will be covered in rubber so that it is strong and won't be damaged easily. As an electricity supply can be a problem in developing countries, the computer also has a special handle in order that children can wind the computer up to give it extra power when needed. This special laptop computer will cost less than 100 US dollars and Mr. Negroponte wants to produce as many as 15 million laptop computers in the first year. The idea is that these computers will help the children's education as they will be able to access the Internet. These computers might not benefit the people in developing countries immediately, but by improving children's education they should help people to find their own solutions to their problems in the long term.Another idea to help children in developing countries is to recycle old mobile phones so that they can be used again. Unit 3 Sports and fitnessUnit 3 Discovering Useful Structures & Listening and Talking1、For most of us, swinging(摆动)360 degrees around the spindle(轴)of a swing set is a distant childhood dream, but for some people in Estonia, it’s what they never grow out of. Not only do they still love struggling against gravity (重力),but they actually have created a competitive sport around their favorite entertainment. That sport is known as “kiiking”.Swings are deep in Estonian culture, and you can still find various types of swings in villages and towns all around the country. They are used by children and adults alike, either for simple fun,or as a way for communities to bond during celebrations. So maybe it doesn’t come as a big surprise that Estonia has an extreme s port based on swinging. Some people see it as dull, others as pointless, but to those who practice it, kiiking is the coolest thing in the world. The rules of kiiking are pretty simple. Competitors start swinging at a certain height, and if they can complete a full circuit(圈)around the spindle, they can try to do the same after the swing has been raised a little, and so on. Those who fail to do a full spindle are left with the result of their last successful try.Watching kiiking videos might give you the impression that it’s an easy sport, but Laansalu, who has been practicing it since she was 8 years old, says it requires both great physical strength一strong legs and strong arms一and technique一knowing when to stand or sit in the swing chair, when to push yourself over the spindle of the swing and how to avoid injury.Small groups of kiikers have been appearing in other countries, including the United States, but now it is still considered as an Estonian sport. There are no international kiiking competitions yet, but Estonia has several national kiiking events throughout the year.1. What can we know about kiiking?A. Ai is very easy and safe.B. It is intended for children.C. It is an international sport.D. It is developed from swinging.2. The fiinds (基金) that were raised will help cover medical expenses so that the dog can be transported from China to Leonard’s home of Edinburgh, Scotland. The female dog, who Leonard appropriately named Gobi, joined Leonard on the second day of the annual 4 Deserts Race Series and ran side-by-side with him for 77 miles. Leonard noticed Gobi running with 101 runners during the first day, but on the second day, Gobi was on the start line, looking up at him. "This was the first contact I had with her and as I ran off the line I noticed her by my side," he said. "I didn't speak much to her that day, but at the finish line she followed me into the tent and we slept next to each other. That was it then."Leonard shared his sleeping space, water and food with his small companion during the race. He even lent her a hand when needed. "I carried her across rivers that she could not cross on her own, " he wrote on his Crowdfimder page. After the race, it was clear to Leonard that he had developed a special bond with the pup and started researching ways to get Gobi to the UK. He learned that it would take four months for Gobi to be medically checked and cleared for entry, allof which will cost $ 6, 560, an amount that has been surpassed (超过) due to a successful Crowdfunder campaign that raised $ 13,330.1.Why did Leonard leave Scotland for China?A.To join in a desert race.B. To travel in Gobi desert.C.To search for a stray pup.D. To donate for animals.2.What can be inferred from the passage?A.It’s not easy to transport a pet to a different country.B.Gobi was familiar with Leonard before the race.C.The money will help shorten the medical checking time.D.Gobi can run much faster than extreme marathon runners.3.What can Leonard be best described as?A. Unit 3 Sports and fitnessUnit 3 Reading for Writing1、 For Canaan Elementary's second grade in Patchogue, N. Y., today is speech day, and right now it's Chris Palaez's turn. The 8-year-old is the joker of the class. With shining dark eyes, he seems like the kind of kid who would enjoy public speaking. But he's nervous. "I'm here to tell you today why you should …should …" Chris trips on the "-Id," a pronunciation difficulty for many non-native English speakers. His teacher, Thomas Whaley, is next to him, whispering support. "...Vote for...me…" Except for some stumbles, Chris is doing amazingly well. When he brings his speech to a nice conclusion, Whaley invites the rest of the class to praise him.A son of immigrants, Chris started learning English a little over three years ago. Whaley recalls (回想起) how at the beginning of the year, when called upon to read, Chris would excuse himself to go to the bathroom.Learning English as a second language can be a painful experience. What you need is a great teacher who lets you make mistakes. "It takes a lot for any student," Whaley explains, "especially for a student who is learning English as their new language, to feel confident enough to say, 'I don't know, but I want to know.'"Whaley got the idea of this second-grade presidential campaign project when he asked the children one day to raise their hands if they thought they could never be a president. The answer broke his heart. Whaley says the project is about more than just learning to read and speak in public. He wants these kids to learn to boast (夸耀) about themselves."Boasting about yourself, and your best qualities," Whaley says, "is very difficult for a child who came into the classroom not feeling confident."1. Now, another research shows that physical activity may help students do better in their classes. The research comes as educators in some countries are reducing time for activities like physical education. They are using the time instead for academic (学术的) subjects like math and reading. The studies appeared between 2008 and 2014. They included more than 55,000 children, aged 6 to 18.Amika Singh: "According to the results of our study, we can conclude that being physically active is beneficial to academic performance. There are, first, Physiological explanations, like more blood flow, and so more oxygen to the brain. Being physically active means there are more hormones (荷尔蒙) Produced like endorphins (内啡肽). And endorphins make your stress level lower and your mood improved, which means you also perform better."Also, students taking part in organized sports learn rules and how to follow them. This could improve their classroom behavior and help them keep their mind on their work. The study leaves some questions unanswered, however. Ms Stash says it is not possible to say whether the amount or kind of activity affected the level of academic improvement. This is because of differences among the studies. The researchers said they found only two high-quality studies. They needed more high-quality studies to confirm (证实) their findings. They also pointed out that "results for other parts of the world may be quite different".Still, the general finding was that physically active kids are more likely to do better in school. Ms Singh says schools should consider that finding before they cut physical education programs.
