My New Fulcrum in English LearningAs I journey through the seventh grade, the fourth unit of our English textbook stands out as a pivotal moment in my academic life. It marks a significant shift in my perception of the language and serves as a new fulcrum for my learning experiences.Previously, English was merely a subject I had to tackle in school, devoid of any real excitement or enthusiasm. However, this unit introduced me to a world of possibilities and opportunities that the language offers. It was a revelation that English is not just about grammar and vocabulary; it's a gateway to understanding different cultures, expressing oneself creatively, and communicating effectively with a global audience. The focus of this unit was on enhancing our reading comprehension skills and encouraging us to explore various literary genres. We delved into stories that were not only entertaining but also thought-provoking. These stories taught me about different perspectives, values, and life lessons that are universal in nature. Reading became ajoyful experience as I discovered new worlds and characters that resonated with me.Moreover, the unit emphasized the importance ofspeaking and writing skills. We were encouraged to participate in discussions, express our opinions, and write about our thoughts and feelings. This helped me overcome my initial hesitance and fear of speaking in English. Gradually, I found myself becoming more confident andfluent in expressing myself. The most significant aspect of this unit, however, was the realization that English learning is a lifelong journey. It's not something that ends with a grade or a certificate; it's a continuous process of discovery and growth. Thisunit inspired me to pursue English learning with renewed enthusiasm and dedication.Looking back, I realize that this unit was not just about acquiring knowledge or skills; it was about finding a new fulcrum in my academic journey. It shifted my focusfrom merely surviving in English class to thriving in it.It made me realize that English is not just a subject; it'sa tool that can open doors to new experiences and opportunities. As I continue my journey through school and beyond, I am grateful for this unit that served as a pivotal moment in my English learning. It has given me a new perspective, a newfound enthusiasm, and a sense of direction that will guide me in my future endeavors.**英语学习的新支点**在我七年级的学习旅程中,英语课本的第四单元成为了我学术生涯中的一个重要转折点。
The Magic of Reading: Unlocking NewWorldsReading has always been a magical journey for me, a window to infinite worlds and boundless knowledge. It's not just about the words on the page; it's about the stories they tell, the emotions they evoke, and the wisdom they impart. In the fourth unit, section four of our English textbook, "New Fulcrum Junior English," we delve into the wonders of reading and how it shapes our lives. The first thing that strikes me about reading is its ability to transport me to different places and times. Whether it's the bustling streets of Victorian London or the serene valleys of ancient China, books allow me to experience cultures and environments that would otherwise be inaccessible. I can be a part of exciting adventures, whether it's exploring the depths of the ocean or soaring through the skies. Reading takes me to places I've never been and introduces me to people I've never met, broadening my horizons and enriching my understanding of the world. Moreover, reading helps me develop empathy and understanding. Through the stories of others, I learn aboutdifferent perspectives and life experiences. I gaininsights into the challenges people face and the choices they make. This understanding not only makes me a more compassionate person but also equips me with the tools to navigate my own life's journey.Additionally, reading improves my language skills and cognitive abilities. It expands my vocabulary, enhances my grammar, and sharpens my comprehension. Reading regularly challenges my brain, helping me to think critically and creatively. It also fosters my imagination, allowing me to visualize scenarios and characters in vivid detail. But the magic of reading doesn't stop there. It's also a source of comfort and solace. When I'm feeling down or stressed, picking up a good book can instantly transport me to a different realm, providing a welcome escape from the troubles of the real world. Reading can be a solace during difficult times, offering insights and perspectives that can help me cope with life's challenges. In conclusion, the fourth unit, section four of "New Fulcrum Junior English" has opened my eyes to the infinite wonders of reading. It has taught me that books are notjust ink and paper; they are portals to other worlds, teachers of life lessons, and companions on life's journey. Reading has become a cherished part of my life, and I'm grateful for the opportunity to explore and learn through the pages of books.**阅读的魔力:解锁新世界**对我而言,阅读总是一场神奇的旅程,是通向无限世界和无尽知识的窗口。

A) A murderer who had stolen 10000 yuan and ran away after shooting down twoguards was caught recently in Dalian, a city in Liaoning Province. Han Junping wastrying to change into women's clothes in a ladies room at Dalian railway station when he was noticed by two women passengers. They called the police who arrest klan. He had more than 3000 yuan on him.1. The best headline for the above news story isA. Women Arrest MurdererB. Two Brave WomenC. Murderer CaughtD. Police Get 8000 yuanB) The easy way out isn't always easiest. I learned that lesson when I decided totreat Doug, my husband of one month, to a special meal. I glanced through my cookbook and chose a menu which included homemade bread. Knowing the bread would take time, I started on it as soon as Doug left for work. As I was not experienced in cooking, I thought if a dozen was good, two dozen would be better, so I doubled everything. As Doug loved oranges, I also opened a can of orange and poured it all into the bowl. Soon there was a sticky dough covered with ugly yellowish marks. Realizing I had been defeated, I put the dough in the rubbish bin outside so I wouldn't have to face Doug laughing at my work. I went on preparing the rest of the meal, and, when Doug got home, we sat down to Cornish chicken with rice. He tried to enjoy the meal but seemed disturbed.Twice he got up and went outside, saying he thought he heard a noise. The third time he left, I went to the window to see what he was doing. Looking out, I saw Doug standing about three feet from the rubbish bin, holding the lid up with a stick and looking into the container. When I came out of the house, he dropped the stick and explained that there was something alive in our rubbish bin. Picking up the stick again, he held the lid up enough for me to see. I felt cold. But I stepped closer and looked harder. Without doubt it was my work. The hot sun had caused the dough to double in size and the fermenting yeast made the surface shake and sign as though it were breathing. It looked like some unknown being from outer space. I could see why Doug was so shaken. I had to admit what the "living thing" was and why it was there. I don't know who was more embarrassed by the whole thing--Doug, or me.2. The writer's purpose in writing this story is ______.A. to tell an interesting experienceB. to show the easiest way out of a difficultyC. to describe the trouble facing a newly married womanD. to explain the difficulty of learning to cook from booksC) Decision-thinking is not unlike poker--it often matters not only what you think, but aim what others think you think and what you think' they think you think. The mental process is similar. Naturally, this card game has often been of considerable interest to people who are, by any standards, good thinkers. The great mathematician John Von Neumann was one of the founders of game theory. In particular, he showed that all games fall into two classes; there are what he called games of "perfect information", games like chess where the players can't hide anything or play tricks:they don't win by chance, but by means of logic and skills. Then there are games of "imperfect information", like poker, in which it is impossible to know in advance that one course of action is better than another. One mistaken idea about business is that it can be treated as a game of perfect information. Quite the reverse. Business, politics,, life itself are games which we must normally play with very imperfect information. Business decisions are often made with many unknown and unknowable factors which would even puzzle best poker players. But few business people find it comfortable to admit that they are taking a chance, and many still prefer to believe that they are playing chess, not poker.3. The subject discussed in this text isA. the process of reaching decisionsB. the difference between poker and chessC. the secret of making good business plansD. the value of information in winning games4. In the writer's opinion, when making business decisions one shouldA. put perfect information before imperfect informationB. accept the existence of unknown factorsC. regard business as a game of chessD. mix known and unknown factorsD) Excused from recycling because you live in a high rise with a rubbish chute? You won't be for long. Miami's Mark Shantzis has made it simple for those living in tall building to use the chute and recycle too.In Shantzis' Hi-Rise Recycling System, a chute leads to a pie-shaped container with six boxes that can turn around when operated. The system, which fits in the same space as the chute and container now in use, enables glass, plastic, paper, metal, and other rubbish to go into separate boxes. The system is controlled from a board fixed next to the chute door. The board has a button for each class of recycling materials (as well as for unrecyclables). At the press of a button, a microcomputer locks all other floors' chute doors and sets the recycling container turnig until the right box comes under the chute. The computer also counts the loads and gives a signal by phone when the box is full. And a particular piece of equipment breaks up the nonrecyclables.Sorting recyclables before they are collected saves the use of expensive materials recovery equipment which otherwise has to do the sorting. Such equipment often makes recycled materials very expensive, so expensive that tons of recyclables remain wasted.Shantzis believes his system could help recycled materials become more cost-effective.5. The purpose in writing this text is _A. to encourage people to recycle their rubbishB. to introduce a recycling system for high risesC. to describe the Use of computer technology in recyclingD. to explain the need for rubbish collection in high rises6. The biggest advantage of this new system is that __A. it reduces the cost of recyclingB. it saves time and spaceC. it saves money for people living in high risesD. it makes better use of the existing recovery equipmentE) On June 17, 1744, the officials from Maryland and Virginia held a talk with the Indians of the Six Nations. The Indians were invited to send boys to William and Mary College. In a letter the next day they refused the offer as follows:We know that you have a high opinion of the kind of learning taught in your colleges, and that the costs of living of our young men, while with you, would be very expensive to you. We know that you mean to do us good by your suggestion; and we thank you heartily. But you must know that different nations have different ways of looking at things, and you will therefore not be angry if our ideas of this kind of education happen not to be the same as yours. We have had some experience of it.Several of our young people were formerly brought up at the colleges of the northern provinces; they were taught all your sciences; but, when they came back to us, they were bad runners, not knowing any means of living in the woods ... they were totally good for nothing. We are, however, not the less obliged by your kind offer, though we refuse to accept it, and, to show our grateful sense of it, if the gentlemen of Virginian will send us a dozen of their sons, we will take care of their education, teach them in all we know and make men of them.7. This passage is about _____.A. the talk between the Indians and the officialsB. the colleges of the northern provinceC. the educational values of the IndiansD. the problems of the Americans in the mid-eighteenth century8. The Indian's chief purpose in writing the letter seems to be toA. politely refuse a friendly offerB. express their opinions on equal treatmentC. show their prideD. describe Indian customs9. According to the letter, the Indians believed that ______.A. it would be better for their boys to receive some schoolingB. they were being insulted by the offerC. they knew more about science than the officialsD. they had a better way of educating young men10. Different from the officials' view of education, the Indians thought_____.A. young men should also be educatedB. they had different goals of educationC. they taught different branches of scienceD. they should teach the sons of the officials first11. The tone(语气) of the letter as a whole is best described asA. angryB. pleasantC. politeD. inquiringF) It is a matter of common observation that although incomes keep going up over the years, people never seem to become much better off! Prices are rising continuously. This condition is known as one of inflation; the money supply is becoming inflated so that each unit of it becomes less valuable. People have seen in recent years higher and higher rates of inflation. What could be bought ten years ago for one dollar now costs well over two dollars. And it appears that thisrate of inflation is tending to rise rather than to fall.If in the real world our money incomes go up at the same rate as prices one might think that inflation does not matter. But it does. When money is losing value it lacks one of the qualities of a good money---stability of value. It is no longer acceptable as a store of value; and it becomes an unsuitable standard of deferred (推迟的) payment. Nobody wants to hold a wasting asset(财产), so people try to get rid of money as quickly as possible. Inflation therefore invites people to spend, and prevents people from saving.12. According to the author, inflationA. is very common at the present timeB. seldom happensC. has become rarer in recent yearsD. is just reasonable13. According to the passage, if incomes and prices rise togetherA. money will hold its valueB. inflation causes no problemC. inflation will remain to be a problemD. the business will get betterG). Many people believe men and women are equal in every way. They believe women are just as intelligent (聪明) as men. They also believe that in business women are as logical(合乎逻辑的) and creative as men. They feel that men can be just as good with children as women. Most people agree that there are some real physical differences between men and women. In general, most women are not as strong as men. Most women are not as tall as men. And most womencannot run or march as fast as men.But that doesn't mean women are inferior (低劣) to men in any way. They ought to be equal.14.The central idea of this passage is ____.A.that women are not inferior to men in any way and they ought to be equal.B.women are now equal in every way.C.women shouldn’t oppress men.D.man ought to oppress women.。
The moon is so far from the earth that even if huge trees were growing on the mountains, and elephants were walking about, we could not see them through the most powerful telescopes which have ever been invented. The moon is far from the earth,其他,如状语从句、语从句,都是为突出主题效劳的。

China has become the first country to successfully launch a spacecraft to the far side of the moon. The Chang'e-4 probe has also made the first lunar landing since 1972. It has the task of exploring the side of the moon that never faces the earth. The dark side of the moon is older and has a thicker surface than the visible side. It takes the moon as long to revolve on its own axis as it does for one complete orbit around the earth. The Chinese probe landed in a huge crater 2500km in diameter and 13km in depth. The crater is one of the oldest parts of the moon and our solar system.Scientists hope to learn more about the geology of the far side of the moon. The craft has two cameras on board which will send images back to the earth. It will also attempt to send signals to distant regions of space, which cannot happen on earth because of too much radio noise. The probe also has instruments on board to examine minerals as well as a container with seeds which will find out whether the seeds can grow the moon.Communication with the spacecraft is not easy. Images and other data must be transmitted to a separate satellite because no direct communication with the earth is possible. For China the Chang'e-4 landing is an important achievement, because the country has successfully done something no other nation on earth has done. It wants to become a leading power in space exploration and has announced plans to send astronauts to the moon and set up its own space station.。

What is the text mainly about?Which of the following best described the main point of the passage? What is the writer trying to tell us?Which of the following is the best title for the passage? The primary/ main purpose of the passage is _______.The main/ general idea of the passage is _________.The passage is mainly about _________.What is mainly discussed in the passage?2.

因此在解读文本环节,教师要引发学生通过阅读达到写作的兴趣与欲望,如《The Secret Garden》的一段:“Because your father locked the garden door when you were born. And that was ten years ago.” Colin was very interested in the garden. He asked question after question. What sort of garden is it?Where is it?Where’s the key? Did you ask the gardeners about it?
教师让学生思考这样的问题:“Why didn’t Colin know his home very well?”学生有着下面一段思考:“Colin didn’t get out of the room and didn’t come to nature for 10 years.”接着老师趁热打铁地问:“What is the first door? The first door is between human and nature.”
Mary looked out of the window. Everything outside was grey. It was raining. The sun was shining and the sky was blue. Mary skipped。
What will you change after reading?
I will come to nature.I will care about others.I will face difficulties bravely.I will think English is also interesting.I will think English is also beautiful.I will like reading.
