第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。
21.(6分)My wife and I owned two doge that we had owned before we met and brought into the marriage. Her dog was a pit bull(斗牛犬) named Zack, and he hated me. When our daughter was born, I was worried that the family pit bull would be dangerous to have around our young daughter. I warned my wife that the dog would have to go at the first sign of trouble. I said, “If he nips(啃咬) at the baby, he’s gone.”
We brought our daughter home in a car seat, and both dogs sniffed(嗅)and licked her, tails wagging. I had to pull Zack away from her because he wouldn’t stop licking her. Zack immediately became my daughter's protector, and when she was lying on a blanket on the floor, he always had one foot on the blanket.
Zack loved my daughter extremely, and when she became a little older always walked her to bed, and then slept on the bed with her. He somehow knew whenever it was time to go upstairs, and he would wait at the bottom of the stairs for her, and then follow her up to bed.
Zack was poisoned by some neighbor kids, and we had one of the worst days of our lives. Watching my daughter say goodbye to him as he lay still on the kitchen floor, my wife and I were both sobbing.
At 8:00 that night, my daughter walked to the stairs to go to bed. At that moment, all three of us realized what was about to happen. My daughter looked at her mother and me with a look of horror and panic. It was at that moment that my dog, Sam who loved my daughter dearly, stood up, walked over to her, and nudged her with his head. He put his foot on the stairs, and looked up at her. They walked up to bed, with my daughter holding his neck tightly.
For the next six years, until he died, Sam waited for her by the stairs each night.
1、Why did the author pull Zack away from his daughter?

22.(8分)Earlier this summer, Carol LeResche got the phone cal l she’d been waiting for. A tourist was picking zucchini (西葫芦) at Thorne Rider Park. “It’s exactly what we hoped would happen when we put in the food forest,” explained LeResche, the park’s food forest founder. In May, he received a $ 3,500 fund. The money was to help turn a former park into an edible (可食用的) landscape. It’s a place where all of the fruits, vegetables and nuts are free for the taking.
Unlike some parks with strict “no picking” policies, food forests are designed to provide colorful crops. Pe ople are encouraged to harvest them. “We think it’s important to put public food in public spaces,” she said. The desire to know more about where our food comes from is one of the reasons there is a real trend toward agriculture into neighborhoods and communities. There, people can participate in tours and classes or relax among the fruit trees. Food forests provide different kinds of fresh produce more than we can buy.
Food forests are based on a model valuing sustainable and mostly self-sufficient agricultural production. The food forest model requires less chemical fertilizer and less labor than traditional agriculture. An edible forest is designed to develop without pesticides or weeding.
Since the concept is relatively new, and it takes at least three years for fruit and nut trees and berry bushes to start producing meaningful amounts of fresh food, it’s hard to know whether food forests will have an impact on food deserts. Volunteer-driven projects can fall apart if the group loses interest. Lack of funding can also be problematic. Pests also are an often-cited concern.
After all and above all, LeResche explained, food forests are about a lot more than food. “We also want to provide a gathering space that is productive and beautiful where people can develop a relationship with each other and get connected.”
1、Compared with common food bought, what is special about the food in edible forests?
A.It tastes better. B.It has more varieties.
C.It has funny appearances. D.It’s produced free of fertilizer.
2、What is stressed in Paragraph 4?
A.Food forests may disappear soon.
B.Food forests have a long way to go.
C.Food forests waste lots of natural resources.
D.Food forests seem imaginary and impossible.
3、As for LeResche, what is the most important role of food forests?
A.A way to relax and entertain. B.A way to solve food shortage.
C.A way to be thankful for nature. D.A way to meet and make friends.
4、What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To call help. B.To raise money.
C.To compare and argue. D.To inform and introduce.
23.(8分)The days of having to carry a phone charger everywhere could soon be over. Michigan researchers have revealed a major breakthrough in harvesting energy from human motion. They say it could lead to smartphones powered for a week by the motion of a swipe(重击).
Michigan State University’s low-cost device, known as a nanogenerator, has already been tested. Scientists successfully operated an LCD touch screen, a bank of 20 LED lights and a flexible keyboard, all with a simple touching or pressing motion and without the aid of a battery. The groundbreaking findings, published in the journal Nano Energy, suggest “We’re on the path toward wearable devices powered by human motion,” said Nelson Sepulveda, associate profess or of electrical and computer engineering and lead researcher of the project.
“What I foresee, relatively soon, is the capability of not having to charge your cell phone for an entire week, for example, because that energy will be produced by your movement,” said Sepulveda, whose research is funded by the National Science Foundation.
Electrical energy is created when the device is compressed by human motion. The completed device is as thin as a sheet of paper. The device used to power the LED lights was palm-sized, while the device used to power the touch screen was as small as a finger. Advantages such as being lightweight, flexible and low-cost could make it a promising and alternative method in the field of Mechanical-energy harvesting.
The device also be comes more powerful when folded. Sepulveda said, “You can start with a large device, but when you fold it once, and again, and again, it’s much smaller and has more energy. Now it may be small enough to put in a specially made heel of your shoe so it creates power each time your heel strikes the ground.”
Sepulveda and his team are also developing technology that would transmit the power generated by the heel strike to, say, a wireless headset.
1、Who is Nelson Sepulveda?
A.The major researcher in the project.B.A professor of engineering.
C.The fund supplier of the research.D.A journalist writing for Nano Energy.

4、The purpose of the passage is to ________.
A.persuade people to buy the device B.bring in a new way to save energy
C.introduce a breakthrough in science D.honor Nelson Sepulveda for his contributions 24.(8分)Christmas at the mountain cline would have to wait. The banks beside Mary Breckinridge’s Wendover, Kentucky, clinic were ruined after a heavy rain. She had to find a way to get her five patients to the hospital in Lexington.
With a neighbor’s help, Mary and the nurses built a boat. They named it Ambulance, and on th e morning of December 30,1926. Mary another nurse, and the patients set off down the river. After sixteen wild miles on the dangerous river, they arrived at the train station in Krypton. As she watched the train pull away with her patients safely on board. Mary smiled and waved.
Mary had not planned to be a nurse. She was the daughter of a wealthy Kentucky politician. As a child, Mary was influenced by her family who had always been concerned about the poorer people of the state. When she grew up, Mary was inspired to become a nurse. So in 1925 Mary hired a few British-trained nurses and, with some money from her family, started the Frontier Nursing Service in Wendover, Kentucky.
Before Mary and her nurses came, the mountain people lived a hard life. Families made so little money that they could not afford doctors or medicine. Many children had diseases and nearly every person was malnourished for lack of food.
Mary and the nurses built clinics and a small hospital deep in the forests of Leslie County. There were no paved roads, electricity, or telephones. Each day the nurses rode on horseback to outlying farms, often in bad wenther, to answer calls for help. They worked hard to keep an eye on their patients.
To the grateful mountain people, Mary and the nurses seemed to be everywhere. They treated everything from cut fingers to pneumonia(肺炎), gave shots, and delivered babies. The proud countrymen liked the nurses because they
treated everyone with respect.
The Frontier Nursing Service grew. Today their Nursing Service reaches far beyond the Kentucky mountains. 第二节书面表达(满分25分)
29、Dear Susan,
It’s a long time since I saw you last time. You provided accommodation for me during my English camp in Scotland and your family showed their hospitality to me, which left a deep impression on me. I’m writing this email to show my
gratitude to you for your kindness.
I’ve heard that you are planning a trip to China this July. I’d like to sincerely welcome you to China and I recommend you to pay a visit to Tianjin, which is one of the most popular cities for visitors.
Located in the east of China, Tianjin is a fascinating city with a large number of places of interest. In the north of the city lies Mount Pan, which is a unique geographical feature, attracting tourists all over the world every year. Short history as Tianjin has, it doesn’t mean Tianjin is lack for traditional customs. You’ll surely feel an atmosphere of Chinese conventional culture when you step into the Ancient Cultural Street.
Do you feel like visiting Tianjin? Please write to me and share your opinion with me.
Best wishes.
Yours
Li Jin。
