Many Chinese businesses fail to see the opportunities tied to CO2 emissions reduction. Without a complete understanding of climate change and the benefits of a low carbon economy, some businesses do not recognize that the changes happening in energy and raw materials markets will push the cost of CO2 emissions higher. Coping with pressing issues in business operations, particularly production costs, thus take on heightened levels of importance. With the backdrop of the current financial crisis, lower production and operating costs can help brace companies for the challenging times ahead and generate fresh business momentum. Moreover, the demand from overseas markets for low carbon products is also raising new requirements and opportunities for businesses in China.

◇ 甄选 6 个目标行业在二氧化碳减排方面的成功案例,6 个目标行业包括:高耗能行业、建筑业、可再生能 源行业、信息产业、家电业和金融业;

New Business Opportunities in the Low Carbon Economy
Businesses are the engines of social and economic growth, and are also the key players and beneficiaries of a prosperous low carbon economy. This kind of economy facilitates the development of new low carbon technology and commodities in the service market, while actions that cut carbon and address climate change also generate considerable benefits for businesses.
我们认为:节能减排、应对气候变化有利于鼓励 企业进行技术创新,促进产业之间的资源有效配置, 提高整体资源利用效率,并提高企业产品和服务的市 场竞争力,给企业带来直接和间接的受益。我们希望 与中国企业一起,分享国内外先进的低碳发展经验, 寻找环境友好型产品和技术的解决方案,从而帮助企 业把握全球低碳发展的机遇,实现新的发展。
在中国,大多数企业对于气候变化和低碳经济的 了解尚不深入,没有看到二氧化碳减排给企业发展可 能带来的益处和机遇。事实上,随着能源和原材料市 场不断变化,二氧化碳排放成本日趋上升,如何提高 企业的能源使用效率,在提高产品质量的同时降低单 位能耗等此类问题已经成为企业日常经营过程中亟待 解决的问题。在当前金融危机的大背景下,生产和运 营成本的降低也能帮助企业更好的应对危机,并寻求 新的发展。另外,欧美市场对于低碳产品的需求也在 客观上给企业提出了新的要求,也提供了新的机会。
We believe that promoting energy efficiency, reducing emissions and addressing climate change can propel technological innovation, facilitate efficient cross-sector resource allocation, improve overall resource efficiency, and sharpen an organization’s competitive edge in product and service markets. PROJECT OBJECTIVE, METHODS AND TIMELINE
Project Objective
Many leading international businesses have internalized the concept of low carbon prosperity into their corporate strategy, brand building effort, supply chain management and business operations. Meanwhile, other companies have made public relevant carbon information in an effort to guide investor and consumer behavior. As newcomers in the global economy, Chinese enterprises have a major role to play in this endeavor. A large number of them have come to realize the potential business opportunities arising from low carbon policies and action. More still have yet to build complete low carbon management concepts and systems, but have already benefited from practices running in line with low carbon philosophy.
The effort to meet the challenges of climate change also brings about new opportunities, such as the development of a low carbon economy, which features low energy consumption, pollution reduction and minimal CO2 emissions.
How to face climate change in the 21st century has become one of the world’s biggest challenges. For China, properly addressing the issue requires an approach that balances domestic economic development with international efforts to improve energy efficiency and reduce emissions. The many environmental problems arising from rapid economic growth and excessive energy consumption have proven to be the major bottlenecks constraining China’s sustainable development. There are, however, viable solutions to these problems: exploring low carbon and environmentally friendly economic growth are among the best. Over the last few years, the Chinese government has drafted a series of policies to increase energy efficiency and develop renewable energy to demonstrate its commitment to addressing the issue.

迈入二十一世纪,气候变化已成为国际社会普遍 关注的重要问题。对中国而言,节能减排、应对气候 变化已不仅仅是国际责任,更是中国自身经济社会发 展的内在需要。当前,经济快速增长、能源过度消耗 带来的环境问题,已经成为制约中国可持续发展的重 要因素,寻求和探索低碳、环境友好型的经济增长模 式成为当务之急。近年来,中国政府陆续制定了一系 列提高能效、发展可再生能源的政策,向世界传递了 应对气候变化的决心。
而应对气候变化挑战同时又为经济发展提供了新 的机会——以低能耗、低污染、低二氧化碳排放为特 征的低碳经济。
低碳经济浪潮给企业带来新机遇
企业是经济社会发展的重要推动力,也是低碳经 济发展的主要参与者,同时也将是受益者。因为,低 碳经济发展使得新型低碳技术、低碳商品和服务市场 逐渐形成,应对气候变化的低碳行动将会给企业带来 可观的收益。
