• Variety: planning a number of different
types of activities and where possible, introducing students to a wide selection of materials so that learning is always interesting, motivating and never monotonous for the students.

• Flexibility: preparing some extra and
alternative tasks and activities as teh class does not always go according to the plan so that teachers always have the options to cope with theunexpected situations rather than being the slaves of written plans or one methodology.
• Teaching aims: the teaching objectives
should focus on the learners' performance rather than the teachers'. • According to the new English curriculum, the languague objectis in lesson plan should reflect language skills, knowledge, affects, strategies and culture awareness • (见附件)
Principles for good lesson planning
• Aim: the realistic goals for the lesson.
The teacher needs to have a clear idea of what he/she would like to achieve for the lesson or what outcomes are expected from the lesson. One lesson may have a number aims. Aims are not the things teachers intend to do during the lesson, but the things that students are able to do by the end of the lesson.
• Learnability: the contents and tasks
planned for the lesson should be within the learning capability of the students. Doing things that are byond or below teh students' coping ability will diminish their motivation.
• • • • • • •
A starter can take many forms: a song questions and answers a daily conversation a guessing game a picture description homework checking
• skills: it is mainly a listening and speaking lesson. Students should be able to understand and talk about things in the past, ask question to find out information from others and give proper answers with the structure "there be". They should also be able to write sentences with "there be" to describe things in the past.
• background information:
• about the students ---how many are there in the class? what ages? which grade they are in? what genders? what are they like? • specifying the time and the date of the lesson, the time duration of the lesson
• warm-up or starter: an activity or a series of activities that a teacher does at the beginning of the lesson, which, although does not take long in a lesson, can fulfill a wide range of purpose:(What is the starter's function?)
Lesson Planning
Definition
• A lesson plan is a framework of a lesson in which teachers make advance dicision about what they hope to achieve and how they would like to achieve it. In other words, teachers need to think about the aims to be achieved, materials to be covered, activities to be organised, and techniques and resources to be used in order to achieve the aims of the lesson.
• Language contents and skills.
• Language contents: structure(grammar), vocabulary, function, topic, etc. • Languge skills: communicative skills: listening, speaking, reading and writing
