General teaching aims of unit 4
Ⅰ. General teaching aims
Aims of ability
1. The students will be able to ask and answer that the food and drink of every dinner in a
day.
2. They will be able to use the sentences, e.g: What w ould you like for…? Help yourself….
3. They will be able to understand and do the actions of the orders. E.g: Pass me a plate,
please. Use the chopsticks.
Aims of knowledge
1. The students will be able to master the ten words in Read and write.
2. They will be able to read the words and sentences in Let’s learn and Let’s talk.
3. They will be able to understand the contents of Let’s do and Let’s chant.
4. They will be able to know the contents of Story time and Good to know.
Aims of sensibility, strategy and culture
1. Stimulate students' interest to study English. Foster the positive attitude of learning
English. The students can have the spirit of cooperation and practice.
2. The students will be able to know the knowledge of Chinese and western diet culture
difference.
Ⅱ. Teaching contents
The emphasis of this unit is the names of food, tableware and some relative language. We can teach “what would you like?” by reviewing “can I have a/some …?”
The words of this unit and the words from Read and write are also important. We should pay more attention to the words, which appear the first time.

The second period: A. Let’s talk, Let’s Guess. C. Good to know.
The third period: A. Read and write. C. Story time.
The fourth period: B. Let’s learn, Let’s do. C. Let’s make.
The fifth period: B. Let’s talk, Let’s chant C. Let’s check.
The sixth period: B. Read and write C. Task time.
The first period
Ⅰ.Teaching contents:
Let’s start, A: Let’s learn, Let’s play.
Ⅱ.Teaching aims:
The students can master the words: rice, noodles, fish, beef, soup, vegetable.
The students can master and speak the sentences: What would you like for dinner? I’d like some… And be able to use them in a real sence.
Ⅲ.Teaching emphasis:
The emphasis of this section are lea rning the six words and using the sentences of ‘What would you like? I’d like some…’to practice the six words above.
Ⅳ.Teaching difficulties:
The difficulty is to use the sentences.
And we should pay attention to the pronunciation of the new words, such as vegetable and soup.
Ⅴ.Teaching arranged:
1.Picture cards and word cards.

Step 1 Warm-up and revision
1. Let’s sing: An apple a day.
2. Greetings:
T: Time for class. Good morning, boys and girls. How are you today?
Ss: Good morning, Miss Gao. I’m fine, thank you. And you?
T: I’m fine, too. OK, now let’s do together.
Show me the hamburger. Pass me the French fries.
Eat the hot dog. Smell the chicken.
Cut the bread. Make the cake.
3. Watch a cartoon.
Step 2 Presentation
1. Show the picture of Garfield.
T: OK. Look, who is he?
Ss: He is Garfield.
T: Yes, he is Garfield. A lovely cat. What did he drink in the cartoon?
Ss: Milk.
T: Yes. Today, Garfield is coming to our class. Do you like him? Let’s c all him together. Ss: Garfield, Garfield.
T: Oh, OK. I’m coming. (Show the headwear of Garfield’s.)
Hi, I’m Garfield. Look at me. I’m so fat. I eat so much food every day. I’m hungry again. Shall we go to the KFC?
Ss: OK.
T: Look, this is a KFC. Let’s have a look, what's in the KFC?
Ss: Hamburgers, hot dog, French fries, bread, chicken, cake, milk…
2. Teach “What would you like?”
T: Wow, so many foods and drinks. What would you like? I’d like…(board writing)
OK, follow me. What would you like?(cut the sentence)
3. Teach “fish”
T: Yes, we like different foods. What about Garfield?
Ss: Garfield, Garfield, what would you like?
T: Now you see, I’m a cat. So I ‘d like fish best. Fish↑, fish↓. (practice it)
4. Teach “rice”
T: The fish is good. But I am still hungry. Can I have some rice, please?
Ss: Sure, here you are.
T: Thank you. Look, rice! Follow me. Rice↑, rice↓. /ai/, /ai/, rice.
5. Teach “Can I have some…, please?”
Practice the drill with the words.
6. Teach “noodles”
G/T: Super. After having fish and ri ce. I’m full. I want to have a sleep. Bye.
T: Garfield likes fish and rice. Can you guess, what would I like? What would Miss Xu like? (the students guess.)
T: Maybe. Listen. It’s a kind of Chinese food. It’s very long. What’s it?
Ss: noodles.

7. Teach “beef”
T: Look, what's on the noodles? Yes, it’s beef. /i://i:/, beef.

Help the students to understand the meaning first and the expain the word “breakfast”.
2. Guessing game
The students ask and the teacher answer by using the mouth but not the voice. Then make the students guess.

The teacher can do the action and teach the sentence: Use the spoon.
Use the same way , we can teach “chopsticks” by using noodles and rice. Teach “fork” and “knife” by using “beef”.
2. The teacher say the instructions and the students do the actions.
Use the spoon/ chopsticks/ fork. Cut with the knife. Show /Give/ Pass me a spoon/ the chopsticks/ the fork/ the knife.
3. The teacher draws a circle on the board and ask: What’s this?
Present the word “plate”. Teach the sentence: Wash the plates.
