If you like animals and science, you might want to be a vet. Vets take care of sick pets and animals. Like doctors, they check them up and give them medicine.
When an animal is sick, vets examine it to find out why. They watch the ways an animal looks, acts and smells. Then, vets decide what kind of medicine the animal needs. They also teach owners how to feed and train their pets.
Most vets work with small pets, such as dogs, cats and birds. But a few of them pay attention to large animals, such as sheep, cows, and horses. Large-animal vets usually drive to where their
patients live. They check the animals and give advice to the animals’ owners. A few vets work in zoos and aquariums. They care for tigers, sharks, and so on.
