Like, love, hate + 带 to的不定式或-ing

I prefer to do/I prefer doing

I’d prefer to/I’d rather

Reading：

Early in the morning, I put on my clothes, ran to get some wood, and started the fire in the kitchen . There are always many things to do in the morning: feeding the animals, cooking breakfast, going to the field, etc. Usually, I prefer going to the field. But today with Mother staying at my aunt’s, I had to cook breakfast. At this moment, Tom, my brother came in to ask, “What do you prefer to do this morning ?” “Me, I prefer to go to the field rather than cook, but Mother is not at home. I had to cook the breakfast.” “In that case, I’ll go to feed the animal.”

I．Prefer to do/prefer doing or would prefer

1 prefer + -ing 或 prefer + to表示某人的一般喜好时意义相同。

I prefer going to the field.. (=I prefer to go to the field)

2.如果 prefer 前用了 would后面接to do：

I’d prefer to go to the filed.=I prefer to go to the field.

3 当出现两种选择时，使用方法如下：

I prefer to go to the field rather than cook.

I always prefer feeding the animals to cooking.

句式：Prefer doing to doing.

Prefer to do rather than do.

4 否定形式如下：

I’d prefer not to go out this evening.

5 prefer不用于进行时，不能说: 'I’m preferring to stay at home.’

II．Would prefer to/would rather

Reading：

Tom and I are discussing how to spend the evening:

Tom : Well, if we don’t go to the party, I’d rather go to a pub than stay at home. Would you rather stay at home or come with me?

I :Oh, all right then. I’ll come. But I’d rather not go to a pub. I’d prefer to go to the cinema. Would you like to do that?

Tom:No, I’d rather not. Listen, why don’t we go to Jake’s party? You enjoyed the party we went to last week, didn’t you?

I:No, not really. I’d rather have watched the football on television.

Tom:Well, I’m going out!

I: I’d rather you didn’t go. I’d rathe r you stayed here with me.

Tom: And I’d rather we went out together. But you don’t want to.

1表示特定情况下的喜好时，表达方式如下：

I’d prefer to go to the cinema. 或I’d rather go to the cinema.

两个句子句意相同。

句式： Would prefer to do (something). (带to的动词不定式) Would rather do (something). (不带to的动词不定式)

2 疑问形式：

Would you rather stay at home or come with me?

或Would you prefer to stay at home or come with me?

3否定式的简短回答：

Would you like to do that? No, I’d rather not.或No, I’d prefer not to.

4.谈论两种选择时：

I’d rather go to a pub than sty at home.

或 I’d prefer to go to a pub rather than stay at home.

5 would rather后面跟宾语从句时，从句中的动词多为过去时态。 .

I’d rather you didn’t go. (或I’d prefer you not to go.)

I’d rather you stayed here. (或I’d prefer you to stay here.) I’d rather we went out together. (或I’d prefer us to go out together)

从句的动词虽是过去式，但表示的是现在或将来。

6.对过去发生的事情表示遗憾时，用如下结构：

would rather have 更常用。

注：这些结构表示的是没有发生的动作，在例句中Justin没有看足球赛。
