参观大英博物馆观后感的英语作文
A Wondrous Adventure at the British Museum
I had been looking forward to our school trip to the British Museum for weeks! The museum is one of the biggest and most famous in the whole world, with millions of artifacts and treasures from all across history and the globe. When the day finally arrived, I could barely contain my excitement.
We took the big red double-decker bus into the heart of London. As we drove through the city streets, I gazed out the window in awe at the tall buildings, the street performers and artists, and the crowds of people from every corner of the world. Finally, we turned a corner and there it was - the magnificent British Museum!
The museum is housed in an elegant old building with huge Roman columns out front. I felt very small walking up the grand entrance staircase. Once inside, my eyes widened as I looked around at the vaulted ceilings, the intricate tilework, and the cavernous exhibit halls branching off in every direction. Where to begin?
Our first stop was the Ancient Egypt gallery, which is always my favorite. I love learning about the ancient pharaohs, pyramids,
and mysteries of this ancient civilization. We saw giant statues and busts of rulers like Ramesses II with his intimidating headdress and stern expression. The mummies were fascinating yet spooky - I couldn't imagine being buried that way for thousands of years!
Next up was the Rosetta Stone, one of the most famous artifacts in the world. This ancient black granite slab was the key that allowed scholars to finally decode the ancient Egyptian writing system of hieroglyphs. Seeing it in person was like staring across an immense stretch of centuries into the past.
From there, we traveled to Ancient Greece. I loved admiring the tall marble statues of gods, heroes, and athletes, carved with such intricate detail and grace. The vases were miniature works of art as well, decorated with epic scenes of battles, rituals, and mythological tales. I felt like I could get lost just studying a single artifact for ages.
One of the most impressive exhibits was the Parthenon Marbles - huge carved friezes that once adorned the outer walls of the iconic Greek temple on the Acropolis in Athens. The artistry and skill that went into creating these in the 5th century BCE was mind-boggling. I found myself wondering what life must have been like back then.
We took a quick break for lunch in the charming outdoor courtyard. Eating sandwiches surrounded by these centuries-old treasures felt unreal and magical. Afterward, we headed into the galleries for ancient Mesopotamia, Persia, and other Middle Eastern civilizations.
The colossal stone carvings, carved palace walls,
jewel-encrusted artifacts, and early writings on clay tablets were utterly captivating. One of my favorite things was the Lion Hunt relief sculptures from the palace of Ashurbanipal in Assyria around 645 BCE. The muscular, roaring lions and the armed hunters courageously spearing them brought this ancient scene to vivid life. It was incredible how expressive the artists made those stone figures.
From the Middle East, we jumped forward in time to medieval Europe. I loved poring over the ornate suits of armor, decorated swords and shields, stained glass art, and exquisite illuminated manuscripts. Every object looked like it should belong to a brave knight or noble lord from the legends and fairy tales I've read.
We finished our museum journey in the galleries displaying artifacts from ancient China, Japan, and other Asian civilizations. I was stunned by all the porcelain vases and bowls painted with
vibrant colors and intricate patterns of plants, animals, and calligraphic designs. The woodblock prints, screens, and silk robes were gorgeous works of art as well.
One particularly memorable item was an ancient Chinese bronze ritual vessel from the Shang Dynasty around 1500 BCE. It had been crafted into the shape of an owl, with striking stylized shapes and patterns all over its surface. Knowing that some ancient artisan had made this over 3,500 years ago using relatively primitive tools was simply astonishing!
By the time we left the museum, my brain felt utterly stuffed with all the marvelous things I had seen and learned. Part of me still couldn't believe that this building contained more world history and culture than I could properly take in during a hundred visits.
I left the British Museum with a new appreciation for humanity's rich legacy across the millennia. All those different peoples, empires, and civilizations may have seemed unconnected, yet they were part of the great chain of human innovation, artistry, and spirit that enabled our modern world.
Seeing the perseverance of the human race reflected in these surviving artifacts and works of genius was truly humbling and inspiring. Despite distances of geography and vast spans of
centuries separating them, each culture made its mark and contribution to our shared narrative.
In a way, the British Museum is a kind of time machine, allowing us to walk through portals into past eras and witness moments frozen in artifacts crafted by human hands long ago. Every time I visit, I feel the immense diversity and inheritance of the peoples who came before us channeled into these objects.
My takeaway was that while cultures and time periods may seem worlds apart, we are united across history by the universal human traits of creativity, ingenuity, curiosity, and the drive to understand our world. By exploring and appreciating these magnificent artifacts, we can transcend the boundaries of our era and feel connected to the eternal spark of human achievement.
I cannot wait for my next visit to this wondrous place. There are still so many galleries left to explore, more civilizations and eras awaiting around every corner. The British Museum is an inexhaustible source of enchantment and inspiration for an endlessly inquisitive mind like mine. This trip was truly a priceless adventure into the epic story of humankind.。
