2015职称英语理工类A级试题及答案讲解

2015职称英语理工类A级试题及答案职称英语考试《理工类A级》阅读理解强化练习题(5)Early or Later Day CareThe British psychoanalyst John Bowlby maintains that separation from the parents during the sensitive “attachment” period from birth to three may scar a child's personality and predispose to emotional problems in later life. Some people have drawn the conclusion from Bowlby's work that children should not be subjected to day care before the age of three because of the parental separation it entails, and many people do believe this. But there are also arguments against such a strong conclusion.Firstly, anthropologists point out that the insulated love affair between children and parents found in modern societies does not usually exist in traditional societies. For example, in some tribal societies, such as the Ngoni, the father and mother of a child did not rear their infant alone —far from it. Secondly, common sense tells US that day care would not be so widespread today if parents, care-takers found children had problems with it. Statistical studies of this kind have not yet been carried out, and even if they were, the results would be certain to be complicated and controversial. Thirdly, in the last decade there have been a number of careful American studies of children in day care, and they have uniformly reported that day care had a neural or slightly positive effect on children's development. But tests that have had to be used to measure this development are not widely enough accepted to settle the issue. But Bowlby's analysis raises the possibility that early day care has delayed effects. The possibility that such care might lead to, say, more mental illness or crime 15 or 20 years later can only be explored by the use of statistics. Whatever the long-term effects, parents sometimes find the immediate effects difficult to deal with. Children under three are likely to protest at leaving their parents and show unhappiness. At the age of three or three and a half almost all children find the transition to nursery easy, and this is undoubtedly why more and more parents make use of child care at this time. The matter, then, is far from clear-cuff, though experience and available evidence indicate that early care is reasonable for infants.词汇:psychoanalyst n.精神分析学家一心理分析学家 insulate vt.隔绝rear vt.抚养 predispose 易导致 care taker n.照顾者,看管人 entail vt.蕴涵infant n.婴儿 anthropologist n.人类学家1.Which of the following statements would Bowlby support?A) Statistical studies should be carried out to assess the positive effect of day car for children at the age of three or older.B) Early day care can delay the occurrence of mental illness in children.C) The first three years of one's life is extremely important to the later development of personality.D) Children under three get used to the life at nursery schools more readily than children over three.2.Which of the following is derivable from Bowlby's work?A) Mothers should not send their children to day care centers before the age of three.B) Day care nurseries have positive effects on a child's development.C) A child sent to a day care center before the age of three may have emotional problems in later life.D) Baby care would not be so popular if it has noticeable negative effects on a child's s personality.3.It is suggested that modern societies differ from traditional societies in that ______ .A) the parents-child relationship is more exclusive in modern societiesB) a child more often grows up with his/her brothers or sisters in traditional societiesC) mother brings up children with the help of her husband in traditional societiesD) children in modern societies are more likely to develop mental illness in later years4.Which of the following statements is NOT an argument against Bowlby's theory?A) Many studies show that day care has a positive effect on children's development.B) The fact that there are so many nursery schools today shows that day care is safe.C) The separation of young children from their parents is common in some traditional societies.D) Parents find the immediate effects of early day care difficult to deal with.5. Which of the following best expresses the writer's attitude towards early day care?A) Children under three should stay with their parents.B) Early day care has positive effects on children's development.C) The issue is controversial and its settlement calls for the use of statistics.D) The effects of early day care on children are exaggerated and parents should ignore the issue.「答案解析」1.C 波比认为,孩子从出生到三岁这段时间是一个敏感的“依恋”期。

Green roofs are the most prevalent(流行)in Germany, which is widely regarded as the leader in green roof research. The green roofs that are used these days can be classified as 'extensive' and'intensive' systems. Extensive green roofs use mosses, grasses and herbs, which are tolerant to droughts. These plants do not Reed much maintenance. can be grown in a layer of substrate (土层)that can be as shallow as l.5 inches, and generally are inaccessible to the public. In contrast, a wide range of species of plants are grown on intensive green roofs, such as shrubs (灌木)and even trees, which require deeper substrate layers, and are usually grown on flat roofs. They need intensive maintenance, and are usually areas that resemble parks which are accessible to people. There are several benefits of adopting green roof technologies. Apart from the obvious psychological and aesthetic(美学的)benefits of garden-like environments surrounding you, some of the common economic and ecological benefits are:a reduction in the consumption of energy;air and water purification;recovering green spaces;and the mitigation(缓解)of the heat island effect in urban areas. The green roof research that is currently ongoing is focused on evaluating the species of plants that are suitable to be grown on roofs, the methods of propagation(繁殖)as well as establishment, nutrient(养料)and water requirement, substrates, and the quantity and quality of water runoff. The evaluation criteria of plant species are:at what rate they can be established:their capacity to withstand invasive weeds:tolerance of cold and heat: tolerance of drought conditions: capacity of persistence and survival.A number of experiments are being conducted on roof platform simulations at various research centers. These sites are generally outfitted with equipment, which are used to measure temperatures at different depths of the growing substrates, and the rate and volume of the runoff of stormwaters from each of the platforms.Green roof technology is representative of a completely new market for landscape contractors. And all roofs that currently exist and the future ones to be constructed are the potential market-a market that is too huge to be overlooked.16 It is estimated that around 10 percent of the flat roofs in Germany are green.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned17 German people prefer extensive green roof systems to intensive ones.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned18 Small plants like grasses and herbs are grown widely on intensive green roofs.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned19 Green roof is an ecologically sound strategy of spreading green in urban areas.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned20 0ne of the benefits of green roofs is the reduction of the heat island effect in cities.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned21 0ne focus;n the green roof research is the evaluation of suitable plant species.A RightB WrongC Not mentioned22 Although green roof technology can create a garden-like environment, its potential market is rather small.

Gorillas have a word for itKoko is the first gorilla to have been taught sign language (a way of communicating by using hands and fingers rather than speech). With a vocabulary of more than1000 words, she is the first to prove we share a world with other intelligent beings who feel emotions, look forward to celebrations and also have a sense of humour. The 30-year study of Koko has redefined science's concept of gorilla intelligence. 46. But what had not been recognised by the scientific community was that gorillas have the ability to learn a language and have complex emotions.Koko lives in the Santa Cruz mountains in North America, in a wooded spot overlooking a valley. 47. She has her own home, with curtains, and a nest of blankets, which is her bed, in one corner. She has a barrel on which she likes to sit when 'talking' to humans - gorillas feel more secure when they can look down onothers - while her toys are spread everywhere. In addition she has an outside enclosure where she spends her days when it is not raining. It is her conversations with her teacher, Dr Penny Patterson, that are inspiring. Penny explains: ‘The reality of my discovery is that our abilities as humans, our skills, sensibilities and emotions are very similar to the great apes. 48. .When she began teaching Koko sign language, placing the little fingers of the one-year-old gorilla into the correct positions for 'drink', 'eat', 'more', and rewarding her with food, Dr Patterson had no idea how quickly Koko would learn. “At first, it seemed Koko was using sign language as a tool to get something,” says Patterson. 'It became the kind of reward system that you could expect of a cat or a dog. But early in her training, she began to combine signs that made me think she was capable of more.’ 49. For examp le, she didn't know the word for 'ring', so she combined the signs for ‘finger’ and 'bracelet' to express it.Dr Patterson continues: ‘Koko loves babies and young people. And when she is asked what gorillas like best, she always says "Gorilla love eat, good’’.' One of Patterson's favourite stories demonstrates Koko's sense of humour. 50. .From the age of three, Koko shared her accommodation with Michael who was intended as a mate. However, Michael died suddenly two years ago of a heart attack. ‘Koko went into a depression following Michael's death,’ says Patterson. “She would sit for hours with her head hung low looking upset.”Dr Patterson asked her if she was looking forward to moving to Hawaii, where Patterson is raising money to build a gorilla refuge. Koko signed “Yes”, provided she could have curtains in her new home!A. When a visitor asked her to show him something scary, she held up a mirror to his face!B. ?C. According to some scientists, genetically there is only a 2% difference between gorillas and humans: we share the same blood type, have the same number of hairs per square inch and also the same temperament.D. She has her own home, with curtains, and a nest of blankets, which is her bed, in one corner.E. What we have learnt is that gorillas are more complex than we ever imagined.F. Now Koko is so proficient in sign language that if she doesn't know a word she invents one.更多职称英语考试免费资料请访问“新东方在线职称英语频道”。

2015职称英语理工类A级试题及答案

He added__5__illustrations and cartoons. And he told his reporters to write articles on__6__crime or scandal they could find. And they did.One of them even pretended she was crazy and then she__7__to a mental hospital. She then wrote a series of articles about the poor treatment of__8__in those hospitals.In1895,Hearst came to New York from__9__California.He wanted the Journal to be more sensational and more exciting __10__the world. He also wanted it to be__11__,so he reduced the price by a penny.Hearst attracted attention because his headlines were bigger than__12__.He often said,"Big print makes big news."Pulitzer and Hearst did anything they__13__to sell newspapers. For example,Hearst sent Frederic Remington, thefamous illustrator,__14__pictures of the Spanish-American War.When he got there,he told Hearst that no fighting was__15__.Hearst answered,"You furnish the pictures.I’ll furnish the war."EXERCISE:1.A)no B)many C)a lot D)little2.A)on B)for C)in D)of3.A)on B)in C)at D)about4.A)excite B)excitingly C)exciting D)excited5.A)a lot B)few C)a few D)lots of6.A)every B)all C)both D)many7.A)admitted B)was admitted C)could admit D)has admitted8.A)patients B)patience C)patient D)patiences9.A)an B)the C)a D)/10.A)than B)as C)in D)for11.A)cheap B)cheaper C)cheapest D)the cheapest12.A)anyone B)anyone’s C)anyone else D)anyone else’s13.A)may B)might C)can D)could14.A)draw B)drew C)to dray D)drawn15.A)going B)going out C)going on D)going off参考答案:ADBCDABADABDDCCEarth's Inner CoreScientists have long struggled to understand what lies at the planet's center.Direct observation of its center is impossible,so researchers must(1)to other evidence.In1889,a German scientist detected a severe earthquake in Japan.Geophysicists concluded that shock waves(2)jolts (晃动)from one side of Earth through the center to the other side. Then in1936,Danish geophysicist Inge Lehmann studied the waves'(3)to determine that within Earth's core of molten (熔化了的)iron lies a solid inner core-but(4)that core was made of eluded(难倒)her.Other geophysicists quickly determined that Lehmann's inner core was composed mostly(5) iron.Since then,Lehmann's discovery has(6)conventional Earth science. But now scientists are challenging traditional theory with new and radical(7).For example,Earth's center could actually contain an"inner core within the inner core,"claim Ishii and colleague Adam Dziewonski.Analyzing hundreds of thousands of earthquake wave(8), they maintain that the inner core has at its heart a tiny, even more solid sphere(球体).This sphere"may be the oldest fossil(9)from the formation of Earth,"says Dziewonski.Dziewonski and Ishii speculate that shortly(10)Earth formed around 4.8billion years ago,a giant asteroid(小行星)smashed into the young planet and nearly melted it.But Earth's center didn't quite melt;it(11)mass as the planet cooled. The core within a core may be the kernel(核心)that endured."Its presence could change our basic ideas about the (12)of the planet,"Dziewonski says.Dziewonski's idea is tame(温和的)compared to the(13) theories of independent geophysicist J.Marvin Herndon. Earth's inner core is made not of iron,he claims, but a(14) of nickel and silicon.Herndon has a truly revolutionary notion: Within the nickel silicide(硅化物)inner core is also an "inner"inner core-an8km-wide ball of the element uranium. Uranium is radioactive.Herndon thinks the uranium releases heat energy as its atoms(15)fission-split and crash into one another in a chain reaction. In other words,we may live on top of a gigantic,"natural"nuclear power plant.1A try B leave C turn D point2A create B receive C feel D overcome3A work B solution C job D patterns4A whether B what C why D how5A from B within C of D to6A followed B dominated C restored D opposed7A ideas B demands C phenomena D movements8A things B acts C methods D records9A taken B benefited C left D kept10A after B before C since D when11A expanded B modified C gained D melted12A size B origin C structure D shape13A radical B traditional C classical D conventional14A system B copy C model D compound15A charge B last C experience D show参考答案:1.C2.A3.D4.B5.C6.B7.A8.D9.C10.A11.C12.B13.A14.D15.CIn a purely competitive market, the supplier of goods and services has no control over the market price, because he produces too little to influence market conditions. With no difference between his products and the products__1__his competitors,he will sell nothing if he charges above the market price and he will sell all if he charges at or__2__the market price. However,in considering the price,he must take cost ofproduction__3__.There are times when he may be willing to sell below his cost. This might happen when prices tumble for__4__ a short time. However,no business person can__5__lose money for a prolonged period. He must__6__of his costs in relation to the market price if he is to compete successfully and earn a profit. Many people have the impression that as production increases, costs per unit decrease.__7__mass production has made this true in certain industries and at certain levels of production,__8__logic and practical experience have shown that costs per unit begin to rise beyond a certain level of production. Some economists__9__this principle as the law of increasing costs. The reason__10__rise as production goes up is complex. However,it is easy to recognize that as production goes up, the need for additional factors of production will also grow, resulting__11__competitive bidding in the marketplace for the factors of production. If a producer needs__12__skilled labor to produce more, and none of this labor is unemployed, the producer will have to get__13__from other sources. This can be done by__14__higher wages.Higher bidding would also apply to the other factors of production. We must also recognize thatnot all labor is equally productive,__15__not all land is equally fertile and not all ore is equally rich in the mineral wanted.1.A)to B)at C)of D)on2.A)below B)beneath C)over D)above3.A)to consider B)into consideration C)to considerationD)in consideration4.A)he believes will be B)what he believes be C)what he believes will be D)he believes to be5.A)afford to B)be affordable C)be afforded to D)have afforded6.A)constantly aware B)constantly knowledgeable of C) be constantly aware of D)constantly aware of7.A)Because B)Since C)When D)While8.A)both B)as well as C)also D)but9.A)refer B)refer to C)call D)are referred to10.A)cost B)the cost C)the costs D)costs11.A)from B)in C)\D)for12.A)less B)numerous C)more D)many13.A)them B)these C)it D)those14.A)offering B)cutting C)reducing D)having15.A)as just B)just as C)because D)while参考答案:CABCA CDABD BCCAB。
