Tears are nature’s way of making us feel more comfortable. When our eyes is made uncomfortable by some small pieces of pollution, or when we are cutting onions, or when we are exhausted and “red-eyes” from over work and late hours, tears form in our eyes to clean and refresh them.
Tears are also a sign of strong emotion(情感). We cry when we are sad and we cry when we are happy.
And tears seem to be uniquely human. We know that animals also experience emotion fear, pleasure, loneliness, but they do not shed (流) tears.
Biologically speaking, tears are actually drops of saline fluid, which is a little bit salty, produced by a gland (腺) in the body. Because salt is an important component, tears may actually provide the most important evidence that the human animal is the end product of a long evolutionary process(进化进程) that began in the sea.
And it is clear that, in addition to the emotional benefits, the shedding of tears has a specific biological function as well. Through tears, we can eliminate from our body certain chemicals which build up in response to stress and create a chemical imbalance in the body. Crying actually makes us feel better by correcting that imbalance and making us feel good again. And thus the emotional and the biological functions of tears merge (归并) into one and make us even more “human” than we would otherwise be.

You never see him, but they’re with you every time you fly. They record where you are going, how fast you’re traveling and whether everything on your airplane is working normally.Their ability to withstand(经受) almost any disaster makes them seem like something out of a magic book. They’re known as the black box.
When planes fall from the sky, as a Yemeni airliner did on its way to Comoros Islands in the India Ocean June 30, 2020, the black box is the best bet for identifying what went wrong. So when a French submarine(潜水艇) detected the device’s signal five days later, the discovery marked a huge step toward determining the cause of a tragedy in which 152 passengers were killed.
In 1958, Australian scientist David Warren developed a flight-memory recorder that would track basic information like altitude and direction. That was the first mode for a black box, which became a requirement on all U.S. commercial flights by 1960. Early models often failed to withstand crashes, however, so in 1965 the box was completely redesigned and moved to the back of the plane-the area least affected by impact-from its original position in the landing wells (起落架舱). The same year, the Federal Aviation Authority required that the boxes, which were never actually black, be painted orange or yellow to be discovered more easily.
Modern airplanes have two black boxes: a voice recorder, which tracks pilots’(飞行员) conversations, and a flight-data recorder, which monitors fuel levels, engine noises and other operating functions that help investigators reconstruct the aircraft’s final moments. Placed in an insulated (隔间的) case and surrounded by a quarter-inch-thick panels of stainless steel, the boxes can withstand huge force and temperatures up to 2,000°F. When in deep water, they’re also able to send signals from depths of 20,000 ft. Experts believe the boxes from Air France Flight 447, which crashed near Brazil on June 1,2020, are in water nearly that deep, but researchers say they’re still likely to turn up. In the nearly 20 deep-sea crashes over the past 30 years, only one plane’s black boxes were never recovered.
66. What does the author say about the black box?
A. It make sure of the normal performances of an airplane.
B. The idea for its design comes from a magic book.
C. Its ability to avoid disasters is unbelievable.
D. It is an inseparable part on an airplane.
67. What information could be found from the black box on the Yemeni airliner?
A. Details for finding out the cause of the crash.
B. The total number of passengers on board.
C. The scene of the crash and the damage.
D. Signals sent by the pilot before the crash.
68. Why was the black box redesigned in 1965?
A. New materials became possible by that time.
B. Too much space was needed for the device.
C. The early models often got damaged in the crash.
D. The early models didn’t provide the needed data.
69. Why did the Federal Aviation Authority require the black boxes be painted orange or yellow?
A. T o make them different from the colour of the plane.
B. To remind people to handle them with care.
C. T o make them easily discovered.
D. T o meet with international standards.
70. What do we know about the black boxes from Air France Flight 447?
A. There is still a good chance of their being recovered.
B. There is an urgent need for them to be repaired.
C. They have stopped sending signals back.
D. They were destroyed somewhere near Brazil.
第二卷(共45分)
第一部份阅读表达(共5小题,每题2分,共10分。

[1] Fishing is probab ly the world’s most popular sport. People spend many dollars each year on items like boats and four-wheel-drive vehicles. In addition, they spend money on fishing equipment, bait, fuel and boat repairs. And you can see that fishing can be an expensive pastime. Fishing lovers believe that their hobby is worth it. Others say that fishing is spoiling the environment and that it is a cruel hobby.
[2] Supporters of fishing say that it is a nice hobby. Firstly, of the millions of people who fish for fun, most only catch enough fish to feed their families. They catch fish that are found in large numbers, so there is little danger to the species (种类).
[3] Secondly, recreational fishermen contribute to the economy. They spend money on equipment and other items, and they also spend it indirectly by paying taxes on their equipment and fuel. Those who travel to fishing spots pay for accommodation (食宿) and airfares. This money keeps people in work and provides new jobs each year.
[4] Thirdly, fishing is relaxing and fun so it lessens stress. Instead of turning to drugs or alcohol, it is far better to go fishing. People who are relaxed are generally healthier and much nicer to be near—except for the smell of the bait!
[5] Those who ____________________ say that there are too many fish thoughtlessly taken from rivers, lakes, streams and oceans. This could lead to the dying out of some species. Modern cars and boats mean that people can fish in remote areas of the world, so no place is safe from greedy fishermen who take both males and females, leaving few fish to produce young.
[6] Those against fishing also say that it is a blood sport, which means that an animal must die so that
a human can have fun. Many of the fish caught for sport are not suitable for eating, so they are thrown away. Once hooked, fish have no chance of escape.
