When he was six, his teacher, Madame Sambin, told him stories about her husband, who disappeared while travelling the world on a ship 30 years before. She told her class that he was like Robinson Crusoe, a fictional castaway who lived on a desert island. Verne would later write stories about similar characters. In 1847, Verne was sent by his family to study law at a university in Paris, but he preferred to write novels, poems and plays. After graduating, he realised he wanted to write adventure stories based on science and technology. This had never been done before, but Verne was sure that it would be a success. His first story, Five Weeks in a Balloon, was published in September 1862. His career lasted for more than 40 years, during which time he wrote more than 60 gripping stories. To begin with, Verne wrote positive and optimistic books. Many of these were to be his most popular creations. Although some included fantastical elements, they were usually based in scientific fact, making them believable. These happy stories weren’t to last. As he got older, Verne became less confident in the idea that science and technology were always good for the planet. His books started to include more scientists who used technology for their own – sometimes evil – purposes. Verne died on 24 March 1905, but new books continued to be published until 1919. These stories were based on ideas Verne had written about while he was still alive, but featured newcharacters and plots created by his son, Michel. In the 20th century, his books were translated into more than 140 languages and several successful film versions were released. His creations have been recognised as an inspiration for many scientists and inventors. Many of the futuristic ideas from his most popular books have since come true.4. What is the purpose of Paragraph 1?A. To show Verne’s discovery.B. To offer the background information of Verne.C. To tell of the adventure of Sambin’s husband.D. What he found is that the students were more likely to increase the number of math courses they took as a result of the change in standards and that translated into higher earnings down the line.Put simply: About 15 years after they graduated, the high school graduates who went to school when these changes took effect saw their average earnings increase about 10% for every extra year of math coursework. The findings may add fuel to the steady drum of education experts, policy makers and others calling for an increased focus on science and math education. The increase in required math courses didn’t necessarily produce rocket scientists, Goodman notes, because the extra coursework wasn’t at a particularly high level. But becoming familiar with and practicing relatively basic math skills allowed high school graduates to pursue and excel at jobs that required some level of computational knowledge, he said.Goodman acknowledged that the earnings boost for the students connected with the uptick (上升) in math education may be dependent on the state of the economy. When Goodman checked in in the late 1990s and early 2000s on the earnings of the students who graduated in the late 1980s, he found that their earnings increased significantly if they took more math.8. What does Joshua Goodman’s study find?A. High school graduates earn more.B. High school students prefer math.C. Math matters a lot in one’s income.D. Math is a compulsory course in school.9. Why is increase in required math courses useful?A. It produced rocket scientists.B. It makes high school students smarter.C. It meets the requirements of the government.D. It enables high school graduates to get better jobs.10. What might be the author’s purpose in writing the text?A. To give a warning to policy makers.B. To seek help for high school students’ problems.C. To show the great importance of learning math.D. To tell a struggling history of high school students.11. What could be the best title for the text?A. Efforts matter mostB. Math makes moneyC. Earnings of different graduatesD. Changes of high school coursesDBrain cells work to actively forget memories during a specific period of sleep. When we sleep, our brains clear out the memories we’ve made while we’re awake, deciding what to keep and what to get rid of. Forgetting is an active process, explained the authors of the study published in the journal Science. But less is known about this process during the different periods of sleep. They found that during the rapid eye movement (REM) sleep period ---or active sleep when we are thought todream---special nerve cells appear to actively contribute to forgetting. What are known as melanin-concentrating hormone-producing (MCH) neurons (神经元) sit in the hypothalamus (下丘脑): a part of the brain which helps with a range of functions such as sleep, appetite and emotions. Past research has suggested these cells help to control REM sleep patterns: activating the MCH neurons increasing time spent in this period, while preventingThe scientists looked at MCH cells in mice, and found 52.8 percent were active during REM sleep, compared with 35 percent when the mice were awake. Study co-author Thomas Kilduff, director of the Center for Neuroscience at SRI International, told Newsweek the team was surprised to find that mice performed better on learning and memory tasks when the MCH cells were prevented. “This result suggests that activation of the MCH neurons may affect memory--- that is, MCH neurons may facilitate forgetting,” Kilduff explained. When asked what motivated the study, Kilduff said, “We hope the work could deepen our understanding of Alzheimer’s disease. Understanding the neural basis of learning and memory is a huge area of neuroscience research because of its effects on our everyday lives, as well as diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease. Prior to this work, no one suspected that MCH neurons had anything to do with forgetting,” said Kilduff.12.What can we infer from paragraph 1?A. Forgetting is a passive process.B. The forgetting process is known to us.C. Some memories are forgotten while we are awake.D. Certain memories are removed while we are asleep.13. What does the underlined word “them” in paragraph 2 refer to?A. REM sleep patterns.B. Past researches.C. MCH neurons.D. A range of functions.14. Why did Kilduff’s team conduct the research?A. To publish the study in the journal Science.B. To know more about Alzheimer’s disease.C. To contribute to human’s forgetting.D. To explore our everyday lives.15. What can we know about MCH?A. MCH cells takes control of REM sleep patterns .B. MCH neurons may disturb memory consolidation.C. MCH neurons have nothing to do with forgetting.D. MCH cells help mice performing better on learning.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

李华为学校建立图书角提建议英语作文A Reading Corner for Our SchoolHi there! My name is Li Hua and I'm a 5th grader at Sunshine Elementary School. I love reading all kinds of books - fiction, non-fiction, comics, you name it! Reading takes me on exciting adventures to different worlds and teaches me so many new things. That's why I think our school really needs its own reading corner. Let me explain why I think this is such a great idea!First off, having a cozy reading nook right here on campus would make it so much easier for kids like me to dive into books whenever we have some free time. We could go read during recess, after finishing our lunch, or whenever we have a study period without any classes. Instead of just sitting around talking or playing on our phones, we could escape into the magical world of reading! The reading corner could have lots of fun pillows, beanbags, and comfy seating to make it a relaxing, inviting space. With all the awesome books we could stock the reading corner with, I know it would get a lot of use from kids of all ages at our school. We could have fiction sections for beginning readers, middle grades, and young adults. That way, no matterour reading level, there would be engaging stories for everyone to enjoy. The non-fiction sections could cover subjects like science, history, cultures around the world, and more to help us learn about our amazing world. Can't you just picture rows of cheerful bookcases filled with colorful book spines? Imaginative displays could highlight different book categories and themes each month. We could have listening stations set up so kids could put on headphones and hear audio books, too. Artwork created by students could decorate the walls and make it feel extra homey. Maybe local authors could even come do book readings sometimes! With the right books, seating, and atmosphere, I know the reading corner would be a huge hit.Allowing kids to have time to read for fun at school, rather than just cramming it in at home after finishing homework, could make a huge difference. Some kids' parents have to work a lot and don't have as much time to take them to the library or bookstores. Having an easily accessible reading space right at school would be so beneficial, especially for those students. It could help kids who struggle with reading by making it seem like a treat rather than a chore. Surrounding them with all kinds offun stories is the best way to get them hooked on the joy of reading!Reading is more than just a school assignment - it opens up whole new worlds and expands our minds and creativity. Creating a dedicated reading environment at our school would show kids how much reading really matters. It would demonstrate that reading isn't just something we have to do for class, but an amazing lifestyle that we can enthusiastically choose any chance we get.Developing strong reading skills is one of the most important things we can do while we're young students. Being a passionate reader will benefit us for the rest of our lives by boosting our vocabulary, writing abilities, knowledge about the world, imagination, and so much more. Having a cozy,book-filled sanctuary right here at Sunshine Elementary would do wonders to inspire that passion!Frankly, I think a school reading corner is basically a necessity in this day and age. With so many other entertainment options vying for kids' attention like video games, social media, YouTube, and shows on our devices, we need a super appealing space that makes reading fonts just as fun and engaging. When kids have a choice between strainingtheir eyes on a screen orrelaxing in a lovely reading lounge, I'll bet lots of them would choose the reading nook without a second thought! There are approximately 600 students attending our school, which means at least 600 brilliant young minds ready to be inspired by the magic of reading. Can you imagine what an incredible impact a vibranr reading corner could have? Hundreds of kids being transported to distant lands, making new discoveries, or seeing the world through someone else's eyes - all thanks to the power of books. What an amazing opportunity for learning, exploration, and growth!I really hope you'll consider my idea to create a reading corner at Sunshine Elementary, Ms. Principal. I know I'm just a kid, but reading has given me so much joy, knowledge, and odd-ball nawitz that I want the same for all my classmates. With some comfy pillows, enticing books, and maybe even a few furry reading buddies, I truly believe we could transform one of those unused spaces at school into a reading haven extraordinaire! Just picture kids rushing in with their favorite books, hungry to see what happens next. How awesome would that be?!Reading has been a huge part of shaping who I am today - my curiosity, my interests, my goals, and my endless fascination with rocket ships, magical beasts, and children'ssummer campadventures. Creating an awesome reading corner at our school would ensure that current students and future Sunshine kids can all experience that same sense of wonder, excitement, and possibility through books. Not only would it motivate us academically, but it could honestly change lives by inspiring us to dream bigger! What do you think - should we make this reading corner dream a reality? I'd be more than happy to share more specific ideas, help organize a book drive, put together decorations, or anything else to get this project launched. I truly believe that giving students a spacededicating to recreational reading could have such an incredibly positive impact. It would create a lifetime of warm, cherished memories and maybe evensome published authors along the way! Let's get the wheels spinning to bring the magic of books into a cozy, special spot at Sunshine Elementary.Thank you so much for considering my proposal! I'm happy to discuss it further any time. I'll be first in line to grab a good book and relax in our new reading corner!Sincerely,Li Hua。

A couple of weeks ago, my family took me on a very exciting trip to visit Shandong University of Technology. It's a really big university in the city of Zibo. I had such an amazing time exploring the campus that I want to tell you all about it!When we first arrived, I was in awe at how huge the campus was. It felt like a whole different world inside those walls! There were tons of cool buildings everywhere I looked - classrooms, libraries, labs, dorms, cafeterias, and more. The buildings came in all shapes and sizes, with modern glass structures alongside classic Chinese-style architecture. It was like walking through a miniature city!My favorite spot was definitely the central park area. It had lush green gardens with vibrant flowers, winding pathways, and even a picturesque little lake! Ducks and swans were swimmingpeacefully while students relaxed on the grassy banks. I wished I could have stayed there all day just taking in the calm scenery. Some parts even reminded me of the famous Chinese gardens I've seen in books. There were so many fun activities happening all around too. On one field, I saw students practicing martial arts like kung fu. The powerful kicks and choreographed moves looked so cool! Nearby, there was an outdoor basketball court where an intense pickup game was going on. The players were dribbling and shooting with incredible skill. I'd love to be that good at basketball someday. We also went inside several buildings to explore. The libraries were gigantic, with countless books lining the shelves as far as I could see. Students were studying diligently at the tables and computer stations. I got a little distracted just imagining all the exciting adventures waiting to be discovered inside those books! In the science labs, I watched experiments happening through the big glass windows. There were chemists mixing colorful liquids, physicists working with laser beams, and engineers building small robots. It was straight out of a sci-fimovie! The laboratories looked so high-tech and cutting-edge. I felt like I was getting a peek into the future of innovation.Another memorable stop was the gymnasium, which had an enormous indoor arena for sports and events. We arrived just as an intense volleyball tournament was wrapping up. The athletes were giving it their all, smashing spikes and making incredible digs. The crowd was cheering loudly with so much passion and energy. I've never experienced an atmosphere quite like that before! As we walked around more, I noticed there were beautiful artworks and sculptures placed throughout the campus as well. From elegant stone carvings to vibrant murals, they added such a nice artistic touch to the scenery. My personal favorite was a tall metallic statue of the school's mascot, a fearsome but friendly-looking lion.By the end of our visit, my mind was buzzing with inspiration about maybe becoming a university student myself one day. Shandong University of Technology seemed to have endless opportunities to learn, grow, play sports, get involved in clubs, conduct research, and just live life to the fullest. Despite its massive size, the campus had such a warm, communal vibe that made me feel right at home.I'm already counting down the days until I can tour the campus again! Maybe next time, some student ambassadors can show me around and give me the inside scoop. Who knows, perhaps I'll even get to attend classes and experience life as a real university scholar. Shandong University of Technology has totally captured my imagination. I can't wait to see what other amazing adventures might be waiting for me there!篇5My Big Campus Adventure!Hi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm going to tell you all about the super cool university I got to visit recently - Shandong University of Technology! I was so excited when my teacher said we were going on a field trip there. I had never been to a university campus before. When we arrived, the first thing I noticed were the big impressive gates at the entrance. They were made of gray stone and had the university's name carved into them. Our guide told us they were called the East and West Gates. I thought they looked like they could be the gates to a castle!Once we went through the gates, I was amazed at how huge the campus was. There were roads, trees, flowers, and buildingseverywhere I looked. The guide said the campus covers over 600 acres! That's like 600 football fields put together. No wonder my feet got so tired from all the walking we did. There were students all around, walking quickly while looking at their phones or books. Some were riding bikes orescooters which looked fun. I saw a few kids around my age too, which surprised me. The guide explained that ShandongUniversity of Technology has an affiliated elementary school right on campus. How cool is that?We stopped to admire the oldest building first - the Qian Yuan Building. It was built way back in 1952 when the university first opened. It has grey brick walls, arched windows, and looks like a medieval castle too. I could imagine knights and princesses walking in and out of it. Our guide told us it used to be the whole university with just a few classrooms inside! Unbelievable. Then we walked through the stunning Cherry Valley. Hundreds of cherry blossom trees lined the paths, forming a pretty pink roof overhead. Some of the petals were falling like pink snow. I tried to catch them in my hands. Our guide said the cherry trees were planted to celebrate an important birthday of the university. I want cherry trees like these at my school too!Next up was Moon Lake, a huge peaceful lake right in the center of campus. Lots of willows trees droop their branches into the water, making it look like a painting. I saw some geese and ducks swimming around. Apparently students can even go boating there when it's warm! We sat down for a snack by Moon Lake. The fresh air, the sound of the water, and no tall buildings around made me feel like I was in the countryside. After our break, we went to see the sculpture garden. There were so many interesting statues and artwork scattered around the gardens. My favorite was the big bronze statue of the university's mascot - the powerful Giant Panda! Our guide explained that panda symbolizes the strength and perseverance of ShandongUniversity of Technology. I got my photo taken giving the panda statue a big hug.We finished our tour at the massive sports complex. It has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, basketball courts, badminton courts, soccer fields, a running track and more! Everything looked brand new and professional. The guide said ShandongUniversity of Technology's sports teams have won loads of championships. I spotted the archery range through the fence and saw some students practicing. I asked if I could try archery someday and the guide said I could when I became auniversity student. You bet I'm going to go to Shandong University of Technology when I grow up!By the time we had to leave, my brain was so full of all the amazing things I had seen and learned. Shandong University of Technology has such a beautiful green campus with historic buildings, gardens, a lake, and incredible facilities. It's like a miniature city inside the actual city! I've already started bugging my parents about letting me attend the elementary school there. Keeping my fingers crossed...I'm so grateful my teacher took us on this field trip. It gave me a taste of the awesome university life that awaits me in the future. Thanks for reading about my big campus adventure! I hope you get to experience the wonder of Shandong University of Technology for yourself one day. Laters!篇6My Big Adventure at Shandong University of Technology!Hi everyone! My name is Lily and I'm 10 years old. A couple of weeks ago, I got to go on the coolest field trip ever to Shandong University of Technology. It's a huge university in Shandong Province in China. My mom and dad are bothprofessors there so they were able to show me and my class all around. I want to tell you all about this awesome place! When we first arrived on campus, the very first thing I noticed were the tall buildings everywhere. The university has tons of big buildings for classes, labs, libraries, dorms and everything else. Some of them looked really modern and sleek while others were more historic and traditional Chinese-style. My favorite was probably the main teaching building right in the center. It has this massive tall tower that you can see from all over campus with bright red pillars and tiled roofs. So cool!Right beside that main tower is this enormous open plaza area called "University Plaza." That's where we stopped to meet our student tour guides for the day - a bunch of really nice college kids who went to school there. They told us University Plaza is where they hold events, celebrations and activities all the time. While we were there, we even got to see some students practicing traditional dragon dances! The dragons were these huge puppets made of silk and they looked so vibrant dancing around. I tried joining in for a little bit and it was hard work! After the dragon dance, our tour guides led us over to the west side of campus to see the sports facilities. They have an amazing Olympic-sized swimming pool inside this super coolbuilding that kind of looks like a yacht from the outside. I definitely want to learn how to swim there someday. Right next door are tennis courts, tracks, fields and everything you'd need to play pretty much any sport. We even got to watch part of a soccer game happening on one of the fields between two student teams. Maybe I'll be good enough to play soccer there when I'm older! Then we walked through some beautiful gardens and forest areas that they have right on campus grounds. I couldn't believe how many flowering trees and plants they had there - it felt like we were in a park rather than at a university! Our tour guides told us that the gardens are actually designed based on traditional Chinese landscape principles to promote harmony and balance. They have stretches of bamboo forests, winding streams, pavillion buildings and cute little bridges over the water. We even spotted a few rabbits and birds hopping around! I could have spent all day exploring those gardens. On the east side of campus, we toured the university's library and museum areas. The library was absolutely massive - one of the biggest I've ever seen! They had millions of books on every subject you can imagine along with computer labs, study areas, and even a ancient texts gallery with centuries-old scrolls andmanuscripts under glass. So fascinating! The museum had exhibits covering the history of science, technology, and innovations in fields like engineering, medicine, electronics and more. There were real aircraft and vehicle models, interactive demos, and this crazy virtual reality section. I got to put on a headset and it felt like I was standing on the moon! Finally, we wrapped up the tour by walking through the main residential areas where all the students live. Shandong University of Technology has dozens of dormitory buildings that can house over 20,000 students from all over China and the world. The rooms weren't anything fancy but they had everything students need like desks, bathrooms, lounge areas and convenience stores. While we were there, we got to see kids heading to the cafeterias for lunch and bunches of students just hanging out, studying, playing sports and music on the quads between the buildings. It looked like a fun community to be part of.At the very end of our time on campus, the tour guides brought us back to the main gate entrance where we'd started. Beside the gate was a huge statue of the university's mascot - an armored warrior dude riding a horse. My classmates and I all took turns posing for pictures in front of it before we had to get back on our bus and head home. I told my parents I had the besttime ever and that I 100% want to go to college at Shandong University of Technology when I'm older. It just seems like such an awesome, vibrant place to learn, play sports, join clubs and meet people from all over.I'd recommend checking it out if you're ever in Shandong, China! It's a massive, renowned university with amazing facilities, beautiful green spaces, and a campus that just feels energetic and full of opportunity. Shandong University of Technology seems to have it all - now I just need to study super hard so I can make it there for college! Wish me luck!。

七下北师大版英语单元作文

七下北师大版英语单元作文Everyone has a vision of their perfect school, a place where learning is exciting and fun. If I were to design my dream school, it would be a place that fosters creativity, encourages friendship, and promotes a love for learning.First and foremost, my dream school would be surrounded by nature. There would be a beautiful garden where students could relax, read, or even have outdoor classes. The fresh air would make studying more enjoyable. I believe that being close to nature can reduce stress and inspire creativity among students. The classrooms in my dream school would be bright and colorful, filled with artwork created by students. Each room would have large windows to let in plenty of sunlight. Instead of traditional desks, there would be comfortable seating areas with bean bags and cushions where studentscould sit together and collaborate on projects. The walls would be covered with inspiring quotes and images that motivate students to think big and dream boldly. In my dream school, learning would not be confined to textbooks. There would be a wide range of subjects including art, music, technology, and outdoor education. Classes would incorporate hands-on activities, experiments, and field trips to make learning more engaging. For example, instead of just reading about science in class, students could conduct experiments in a fully equipped lab or explore a nearbyforest to learn about ecosystems. Moreover, my dream school would prioritize emotionalwell-being. There would be a counselor available at all times to provide support and guidance to students. Meditation and relaxation sessions would be held regularly to help students deal with stress and anxiety. To promote friendship, we would have team-building activities and events throughout the year, encouraging students to get to know each other better and form lasting bonds.Additionally, technology would play a significant role in my dream school. Students would have access to tablets and computers, enhancing their learning experience with educational apps and online resources. However, there would also be ample time for unplugged activities, ensuring that students develop interpersonal skills and appreciate face-to-face interactions. Finally, my dream school would have a library filled with a diverse collection of books, inviting students to explore new worlds through reading. There would be cozy reading nooks where students could curl up with their favorite stories during breaks. In conclusion, my dream school would be a vibrant, nurturing environment that makes learning an adventure. It would celebrate creativity, encourage friendships, and ensurethat every student feels valued and inspired. I believe that such a school would not only foster academic excellence but also help students grow into well-rounded individuals ready to take on the world.。
