As one of the traditional handicrafts in China, the Chinese comb has a history of thousands of years. The combs are mainly made of bamboo, wood or animal bones. They are of different sizes and shapes, decorated with colorful designs, such as figures, landscapes, birds and animals. In ancient China, hair was described as "threadlike things of troubles". Thus Buddhist monks have their heads shaved completely. As the combs can arrange hair, people regard combing as a way to clear their troubled minds. Combs also mean “Shun Fa”——"smoothness and prosperity", thus representing people's good wishes.

其材质主要是竹子、木头或兽骨。

大小不一，形态各异，且图案十分丰富，有人物、山水、鸟兽等等。

古时候，头发又称“烦恼丝”("threadlike things of troubles")，佛教僧侣都要剃光头发。

梳子能使头发整齐，所以人们认为梳头可以梳走烦恼。

梳子还寓意“顺发”（顺利发财），包含人们美好的祝愿。
