When Chris moved in across the hall from Norma
Cook four years ago in a Los Angeles-area apartment
complex, the 31-year-old actor waved to his 85-year-old
neighbor for a few weeks before finally knocking on her door and introducing himself.
“the day I enter her apartment and spoke with her face to face was the day my life was changed forever,”Chris says.
He learned that Cook had no family living in California and that she suffered from a long list of
illnesses, including leukemia (白血病).The pair quickly became close friends, as Chris took her to doctor’s appointments, cooked with her and they ran errands together. He shared their advent ures on social media.
But recently, Cook’s health declined and she was in and out of the hospital several times. She once spent weeks in the hospital fighting pneumonia (肺炎)and breathing issues. Eventually Cook was told by one of her doctors that she could no longer live at home unless she had 24-hour care. Because Cook had no money saved to pay her health care costs, Chris started a GoFundMe account to help cover her bills.
But caretakers are expensive and Cook quickly went through the $34,445 they raised. Knowing her days at home were limited, Chris invited Cook to move in with him to save money.
“She loves it! I do most of my work at home so I am here most of the time to care for her. It only made sense to both of us, ” Chris wrote. “She is my adopted gra ndmother after all and I am her grandson she never had.”
“Cook still has weekly hospice health care visits and regular visits from caregivers, so any funds raised cover those expenses,”he wrote.
Though doctors say Cook’s days are very limited, the pair are enjoying spending time together drinking champagne and snuggling with her cat, Hermes, who also made the move.
“She does not want to change, ”Chris told Today. “My apartment was the only place she would have moved. She has strong opinions about where she wants to carry out the rest of her days, and she wants to stay here. ”
Chris says he feels like the relationship was fate. “Moving her in....it feels as though it was meant to be all along, ” he said. “It’s really fulfilling (有成就感的)to be there for her.”

Finding fruits and vegetables at your typical grocery store that have been grown without the extensive use of pesticides can be difficult. Fortunately, The Environmental Working Group(EWG) has done all of the work for you in finding healthy and pesticide-free produce.
EWG has created the 2018 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce, which helps shoppers to find uncontaminated produce. Many consumers do not realize that pesticide residues(残留) are very common on conventionally grown produce products, even after they have been washed or peeled. Because of this, EWG has created their series of guides to lead consumers to safer food choices.
In order to create these guides, EWG analyzed the USDA pesticides tests, which found a total of 230 different pesticides and pesticides breakdown products on thousands of produce samples. Analyzing this information, EWG observed the big differences of the amount of pesticides found from product to product.
The guide's two main components are two compiled lists highlighting the cleanest and dirtiest produce concerning pesticides. These two lists, Dirty Dozen and Clean Fifteen, show consumers how certain foods continue to carry trace amounts of pesticides with them all the way to the grocery store shelves, while others make it to your kitchen virtually pesticide-free.
Some of the highlights from their analyses included the following findings:
·More than one-third of strawberry samples analyzed in 2016 contained 10 or more pesticide residues and breakdown products.
· Spinach(菠菜) samples had, on average, almost twice as much pesticide residue by weight compared to any other crop.
· No single fruit sample from the Clean Fifteen tested positive for more than four pesticides.
“With EWG's guide, consumers can fill their fridges and fruit bowls with plenty of healthy conventional and organic produce that isn't contaminated with multiple pesticide residue,” said Sonya Lunder, a senior analyst in EWG.
Only 25 years ago, the National Academy of Sciences raised concerns about exposure to poisonous pesticides in our food, yet consumers still consume a mixture of pesticides every day in America.
28. Why did EWG create the 2018 Shopper's Guide to Pesticides in Produce?
A. To analyze the USDA pesticides tests.
B. To advertise organic produce.
C. To warn some food companies.
D. To help consumers make safer choices.
29. What is the result from the analysis of the USDA pesticides tests?
A. All the samples are polluted.
B. 230 pesticides are banned.
C. Pesticide amounts vary in products.
D. All strawberries are poisonous.
30. Where are shoppers most likely to find spinach?
A. Dirty Dozen list.
B. Organic food advertisement.
C. Clean Fifteen list.
D. Safer food list.
31. What can be inferred from the last two paragraphs?
A. All conventional produce is safe.
B. No pesticides were used on crops 25 years ago.
C. Consumers never worry about pesticides.
D. Produce safety remains a problem.
D
An exciting landing process of Chang'e-4 lunar probe (月球探测器) was seen through the monitor at Beijing Aerospace Control Center in Beijing, Jan. 3, 2019. It touched down on the far
side of the moon at 10:26 a.m. Beijing Time, becoming the first spacecraft soft-landing on the
moon's unknown side never visible from Earth.
China's Chang'e-4 probe has started the exploration on the far side of the moon thanks to the relay satellite that provides a communication link with ground control. The relay satellite, named Queqiao, meaning Magpie Bridge, after a Chinese legend (传说) , was launched on May 21, 2018, and became the first communication satellite operating in the halo orbit, nearly 500,000 km from
the earth. It can also provide communication for probes from other countries. The relay satellite
will also be used for scientific and technological experiments. The maximum distance between the satellite and the Chang'e-4 probe on the far side of the moon is 79,000 km. The satellite processes data from the probe and sends it to Earth.
The satellite can stay in its orbit for a long time due to its relatively low fuel consumption, as the earth's and moon's gravity balances its orbital moving. While in orbit, it can "see" both the
earth and the far side of the moon.
The concept of using a relay satellite in the halo orbit was first put forward by U.S. space experts in the 1960s, but was realized by Chinese space engineers.
Researchers hope to use the cameras on the satellite to record asteroids (小行星) hitting the far side of the moon. To control the cost of the Chang'e-4 probe, the relay satellite was designed to be relatively small, weighing about 400 kg.
Researchers had just 30 months to develop the satellite, putting them under high pressure. To promote public interest in space exploration, the China National Space Administration invited
people to write down their wishes for lunar and space exploration, and the relay satellite carries the names of tens of thousands of participants and their messages.
32. What do we learn from the second paragraph?
A. The relay satellite was launched on Jan. 3, 2019.
B. Chang'e-4 probe was the first communication satellite.
C. The relay satellite only explores the far side of the moon.
D. The relay satellite can handle data from Chang'e-4 probe.
33. Why was the size of the relay satellite relatively small?
A. To reduce the cost as much as possible.
B. To make it circle Moon for a longer time.
C. To avoid being crashed by other satellites.
D. To follow American space experts' advice.’
34. What made researchers suffer from great stress?
A. Few people interested in the exploration on the moon.
B. The relay satellite carrying too much equipment.
C. Their lacking enough time to develop the relay satellite.
D. People's never being optimistic about the relay satellite.
35. What is the main idea of the text?
A. China is a new space power after the USA.
B. Chang'e-4 probe lands on Moon's far side.
C. Chinese space engineers make much progress.
D. Space exploration is a dangerous challenge.

M: 2 to 4, then. I’ll wait for you at the office. Please e-mail your essay to me first.
W: OK. Thank you, professor. See you then.

W: Hi, Patrick. It’s Jenny. I’m calling to say sorry.
M: Oh, Jenny. I have something new for you.
W: But let me say sorry first, Patrick. I can’t go to the charity party with you.
M: What a pity! But why not?
W: Because I checked my schedule and found I had promised to help Cathy with her questionnaire this Sunday afternoon. And I should keep my word!
M: Yes, I see. Go ahead. By the way, will you be available this Saturday evening? The charity party has been c hanged to be on Saturday evening! That’s what I meant something new for you!
W: Wow, fantabulous! I’m totally free on Saturday. What should I take, toys or books?
M: It’s up to you. Something good for kids.
W: Well, I’ll take some of my favorite books tha t might be valuable for kids.
M: Cool!
