At the very young age of six ,my life was into a constant pain, surgeries, sadness and depression. I was in a horrific(可怕的)car accident on my home Island of Grenada.
I used the word IN to describe it .I,m not referring to being inside the vehicle, but I was the stop sign that the vehicle ran into. Actually,I was hit by a van on the street. My left leg got trapped between the wheels. The skillful driver reversed om my leg to get it out ,pulling off everything that once kept it together, such as flesh, veins, skin, and tissues. I was left with an exposed bone and lots of pain. The terrifying memories of those few moments haunted (缠住)me in my mind forever.
At first I spent a year and half in the hospital. I had surgeries every Friday and painful nights and days. Most of people don,t know this because I've probably never shared this with anyone. I wore what I wanted and I was happy with myself. My leg didn't stop me from pursuing my dreams. It may have slowed me down but it never took my hope away.
You don,t know what I've been through but I have been and continue to be loved for being me. When you see me smile, don,t be quick to judge. Just be happy for me

Finding time to read is an important part of developing literacy skills(读写能力)for all kids. And there are many easy and convenient ways to make reading a part of each day-even when it's tough to find time to sit down with a book. Reading opportunities are everywhere you go .While riding in the car,for example, encourage kids to spot words and letters(on billboards, store
signs, etc.),turning it into a game(“Who’ll be the first to find a letter B?”).While shopping, ask your preschooler(学龄前儿童)to “read”pictures on boxes and tell you about them. Point out the difference between the words and the pictures on the boxes. Encourage older kids to tell you what’s on the shopping list.
Even daily tasks like cooking can provide reading moments. You can read recipes aloud to younger kids, and older kids can assist you as you cook by telling you how much flour to measure. Ask relatives to send your child letters,e-mail,or text messages, and read them together. Help your child create letters or messages to send back to the relatives. These types of activities help kids see the purpose of reading
and of print.
Even when you’re trying to get things done, you can encourage reading. While cleaning, you might ask your child to read a favorite book to you . Younger kids can talk to you about the pictures in their favorite books.
Make sure kids get some time to spend quietly with books, even if it means cutting back on other activities, like watching TV or playing video games. Even if they can’t finish a book, they can read a few pages or discuss some of the pictures.
Most important, be a reader yourself. Kids who see their parents reading are likely to imitate them and become readers, too!

Text 10
W:
One of my teachers asked us what our favorite memory was. Some described winning a contest; others described a time when they were praised by one of their teachers. My answer ,however, got a big laugh, because I said I felt best when I
first learned how to ride a bike. But I didn't mind their laughter at all. That's because it improved the relationship between my sister and I.
I often had quarrels with my sister when I was young. We soon fell into a bad relationship—I avoided her and she ignored me.She was absolutely a sister in name.
One day,I received a birthday gift from my mother —a bike.I was very happy but I didn't know how to ride it.My mom had no time to teach me,so I decided to learn by myself.Although I tried several ways,I still couldn't manage it.I was so disappointed that I threw away my bike and began to cry.At that time,my sister approached me.At first,I turned my face away, doubtful and nervous , as I thought she would laugh at me.Surprisingly , she gently picked up my bike and offered to help me.Within three hours, she helped me learn to ride without any quarrels.Since that day,my sister stopped ignoring me and became my real sister.。
