一、教材分析:
1.Input-based，本课时Part A为泛听，Part B为任务阅读。

可根据学生实际情况选择进行。

二、教学目标:
1、知识目标:通过听力与阅读训练，增补与本单元主题相关的材料，帮助学生了解更多与该话题“success and successful people”相关的信息。

2、能力目标:能就课文内容进行问答;能复述课文大意，描述不同类型的成功人士;能背诵课文中的重点句型或句子;能读懂有关成功人士的报道，了解不同类型的成功人士;学会捕捉不同人对“成功人士”的不同理解;能清晰知道成功的定义。

3、情感目标:进一步引导学生探究如何才会“成功”，引导学生继续寻找成功人士的足迹和通向成功的途径。

让学生明白做好自己的事情，努力工作、学习，付出比常人更多的努力，及善于捕捉机会，才能实现自己的理想和抱负。

三.重点与难点:
1. 引导学生了解更多不寻常的success and successful people，开阔视野。

2. 指导学生阅读这种人物传记式的文章，通过如实回答问题得出答案或者结论。

3. 指导学生运用一些阅读学习策略，培养阅读微技能，如:略读、寻读，找出关键信息等。

4. 通过阅读激发学生对科学探究的兴趣;让学生了解“成功”来自不断的探索和努力的工作，了解历史人物对科学发明和公共服务的贡献。

四.教学对象分析: 学生对success and successful people 的话题比较感兴趣。

但是由于所处环境和生活经历的限制，该话题与学生又有一定的距离(可能仅在谈论自己所接触或了解的人或事)。

因此教师在教学中应该尽量多地把话题与现实生活联系起来，例如让学生多关心时事政治、通过电视或上网，谈论success and successful people.
五.教学设计方法与依据:
阅读是学习语言过程中最重要而且关键的一个环节，是一个有大量语言输入的过程，而输入的效果如何又往往与情景的设计、已知知识的铺垫和有效的引导有很大关系。

在教学设计中，以生活中熟悉的话题和亲身经历入手，引导学生乐于从阅读材料中找出更“精彩”的内容，丰富自己的知识，教师把阅读技巧渗透到教学中，加插适当活动，等使学生完成各项任务，掌握知识，提高自己的能力。

七.教学过程与步骤:
1. Revision
Ss talk about the successful people they write about and have their classmates
guess who they are.
2. Leading-in
(1) Introduce the background knowledge of the fossil in Part A.
(2) Get the Ss to brainstorm what makes a successful person. List
the useful
expressions they mention on the board.
3. Listening
(1) Play the tape twice, and let Ss write down the years of each event. Check
their answers.
(2) Get Ss to write a report about Dr. Hong in a group of four. 4. Reading
(1) Introduce the background knowledge of Nelson Mandela in Part B.
(2) Let Ss look at the two pictures in page 13 and tell who is more likely to be successful (optional)
(3) Ss read the article and finish the questions. Check their answers. (4) Have Ss find out the words and expressions describing the two persons. Help Ss understand what makes them successful.
6. Development
Competition: A Fortuneteller of success. Have each student write down the
quality of himself and ask the fortuneteller to tell whether he/she will be
successful.
7. Homework
(1) Try to think of a person who you think are successful among your
family/relatives/ friends. Interview the person. Write a short
report about
him/her? What makes him/ her successful?
(2) Finish the relevant exercises.。
