上周末去动物园看大象的英语作文
Last Weekend at the Zoo
This past weekend, my family and I went to the big city zoo to see the elephants! I had been really looking forward to it ever since my mom told me we were going. Elephants are my absolute favorite animal. They are so big and strong, but also really smart and kind. I just think they are the coolest!
On Saturday morning, we got up bright and early. My little sister was grumpy because it was so early, but I was too excited to be tired. I put on my elephant t-shirt and elephant hat that I got for my birthday. In the car on the way there, I read elephant facts out of my elephant book to get ready. Did you know that elephants are the largest land animal on Earth? An adult male can weigh up to 6 tons! That's as heavy as a medium sized truck. Wow!
When we finally made it to the zoo, I could barely contain my excitement. We walked straight to the elephant habitat, following the signs with the elephant pictures. As we got closer, I started hearing deep trumpeting sounds. I thought to myself "Those must be the elephants!" Sure enough, as we turned the
corner, there they were in a big open enclosure with a pool, rocks, and trees. They were gigantic!
There were three elephants - two females and one male. One of the females had a baby elephant walking right beside her. The baby was small for an elephant, but it was still way bigger than even my dad! It was so cute waddling around on those little legs.
I couldn't believe how wrinkly its skin looked. Kind of like my grandpa, but a lot cuter.
The male elephant was the biggest one by far. He had these long tusks sticking out that must have been five feet long! I had read that elephants use their tusks to dig for food and water, and also to protect themselves from predators like lions and tigers. This guy looked like he could definitely protect himself. He was making these rumbling noises that seemed to shake the ground a little. I guess that's how they communicate with the deep sounds.
We watched the elephants for a long time. My favorite part was when the two adult females went into the pool. First they used their long trunks to spray water all over themselves. Then they laid down right in the middle of the pool, submerging most of their giant bodies underwater. It was hilarious to see just their backs and heads sticking out of the water. I don't think I've ever
seen anything that big in a pool before! The baby elephant seemed a little nervous about getting in at first, but eventually it mustered up the courage and joined its mom in the refreshing water.
After watching the elephants playing and swimming for a while, we went to the elephant show they have every afternoon.
A zookeeper came out and talked all about how intelligent elephants are. She showed us how they can follow simple commands, and use their trunks to pick up small objects. The elephant would raise its trunk up and down to say hello, and then it used its trunk to grab a rubber toy and put it in a basket. It was incredible to see an animal that big follow such precise instructions.
The zookeeper also told us about all the conservation efforts that help protect elephants in the wild. She said that because of poaching and habitat loss, there are only about 400,000 elephants left in the entire world. Can you believe that? Such amazing, unique creatures could go extinct if we don't work hard to save them. It made me feel really sad, but also motivated to help however I can. When I'm older, I'd love to work at a zoo or wildlife reserve to directly protect awesome animals like elephants.
After the show, we went to get some lunch. I had the best elephant-shaped sandwich ever! The trunk was a pickle and the ears were made out of apple slices. So creative! As we ate, my mind kept wandering back to those beautiful giants we saw earlier. Their leathery grey skin, tusked faces, and warm eyes just captivated me. I wished I could have reached out and touched one, or even ridden on top of one's broad back. Maybe next time!
On the drive home, my little sister fell asleep but I stayed wide awake. I stared out the window, daydreaming about someday living at an elephant reserve in Africa or Asia. Caring for them, studying their behavior, and working to conserve their habitats for future generations. Sure, it would be hard work under the hot sun, but it would be worth it to spend every day with nature's must stunning and most magnificent land mammals.
I'm already counting down the days until we can go back to the zoo again. Watching those elephants play and swim made me so happy in a way that's hard to describe. They seem so free and content, despite being trapped in a zoo enclosure. If only everyone could see how amazing elephants really are, I'm sure they would want to protect them too. This weekend was
life-changing for me, and from now on I'll be an advocate for saving the elephants, one little voice at a time!。
