第二部分阅读理解(满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

21.(6分)In his 402nd anniversary year, Shakespeare is still rightly celebrated as a great wordsmith (语言大师)and playwright (剧作家).But he was not the only great master of dramatic writing to die in 1616, and he is certainly not the only writer to have left a lasting influence on theater.
While less known worldwide, Tang Xianzu is considered China’s greatest playwright and is highly spoken of in that country of ancient literary and dramatic traditions.
Tang was born in 1550 in Linchuan, Jiangxi province, and pursued a low-key career as an official until, in 1598 and aged 49, he retired to focus on writing. Unlike Shakespeare’s large body of plays, poems and sonnets (十四行诗),Tang wrote only four major plays: The Purple Hairpin (《紫钗记》),Peony Pavilion (《牡丹亭》),A Dream under the Southern Bough (《南柯记》,and Dream of Handan(《邯郸记》. The Peony Pavilion is considered Tang’s masterpiece. The latter three are constructed around a dream narrative, a device through which Tang unlocked the emotional dimension of human desires and ambitions and explored human nature beyond the social and political restrictions of that time.
Tang lived toward the end of the Ming Dynasty(1368—1644)and the popularity of his works had a good reason. Similar to Shakespeare, his success rode the wave of a renaissance (复兴)in theater as an artistic practice. As in Shakespeare’s England, Tang’s works became hugely popular in China too. During Tang’s China, the way, in which playlets were enjoyed and performed, changed. Kunqu opera, a form of musical drama, spread from southern China to the whole nation and became a symbol of Chinese culture. Combining northern tune and southern music, kunqu opera was known for its poetic language, music, dance movements an d gestures. Tang’s works benefited greatly from the popularity of kunqu opera, and his playlets are considered classics of kunqu opera.
While Tang and Shakespeare lived in a world away from each other, there are
many things they share in common, such as the humanity of their drama, their iconic and heroic figures, their love for poetic language, a lasting popularity and the anniversary during which we still celebrate them.
1、How is the text developed?
A.By analyzing data. B.By giving examples.
C.By providing arguments. D.By making comparisons.
2、What’s the most outstanding feature of Tang’s works according to Paragraph 3 ? A.They are love stories based on real events.
B.They reflect political environment at that time.
C.They focus on discovering human emotions.
D.They are mainly about dreams of females.
3、What does the underlined phrase in Paragraph 4 mean?
A.Led to. B.Called up.
C.Set off. D.Benefited from.
4、What’s the best title for the text?
A.Tang Xianzu—The Shakespeare of China
B.Kunqu Opera——A Symbol of Chinese Culture
C.Tang Xianzu and His Work——The Peony Pavilion

22.(8分) A company in San Francisco, California, has found a way to turn used plastic bottles into women’s shoes.
Every day, millions of Americans drink water and other liquids from plastic bottles. More than 60 million of them are thrown away each day. Many of the plastic bottles end up in landfills or are burned with other waste products.
A San Francisco start-up company called Rothy’s, however, turns this plastic waste into environmentally friendly shoes. Roth Martin is the company’s co-founder. He explains how they turn plastic into soft material for wome n’s feet. They take the plastic, clean it, and break it down into small pieces. Then they press them through a device that makes soft fibers. Those fibers are then combined together. This is done by a 3D machine. It is designed to reduce waste while making the shoes. The knitted stuff and the inner part of the shoe are then attached to the shoe’s outer part, called the sole (鞋底). This outer sole is also made from environmentally friendly material: responsibly
sourced no-carbon rubber.
Rothy’s shoes are sold online. They are flat shoes, with either a rounded or pointed toe. They come in different colors and designs. They cost either $ 125 or $ 145 per pair, depending on the design. After American actress Gwyneth Paltrow discovered them last year, the demand for the shoes grew. Martin says there is no shortage of material to fill that demand. “We’re not going to run out of water bottles any time soon. So we have a limitless supply of material, and I think that is a good sign for our future.” When the environmentally friendly shoes wear out, customers can return them at no cost to a company that uses the recycled materials to make other products.
For now, the shoes are only available to be shipped in the United States. However, the company says it will add international shipping in the near future.

A.To advertise a new kind of shoes.

23.(8分)The repairman told me, “No charge, Professor Pan!” We’re friends.
“I’d rather pay,’’ I replied. “If it’s free, I can’t afford it!”
Chinese often refuse payment for professional services .insisting, “We’re friends now!” But then they show up later to ask me to tutor them in English,or get them into an American university, and I wish I’d have just paid the 30 yuan I owed them in the
first place!
According to the Americans, “There is no free lunch.”, means that there’s a price for everything. And I’m always looking around to figure out what t his means. Many of our neighbours have given us fruit or flowers or costly teas, never asking anything in return. For years, a bicycle repairman has repeatedly refused to let me pay him. “Wait until you have something major to fix!” he insists.
I mentioned to a peasant friend that I wished I had a stone mill to grind (磨) flour for bread. A month later he showed up with a beautiful mill that he and his uncle in the countryside had carved from a solid block of stone.
Chinese generosity is a real education for Americans like me, who would rather avoid social entanglements (纠纷) and just hand over the money. But cash can’t compensate (补偿) for the greatest gift—friendship.
When an American saw some of my friends sitting on bamboo stools under the trees, sipping (呷) tea, he said, “They must have nothing better to do.” “Actually,” I said, “they are professors, with plenty to do. But probably you are right in saying that, at this moment, they have nothing better to do. And neither do I!”
And I joined the group. When chatting about tea and Chinese cooking and how much my boys have grown since we arrived, one man said, “They were pocket-sized when you came here. Now they’re taller than you. How time flies !.”
How life flies. And Chinese are smart enough to share what they know they cannot keep. They freely give off their time, never too busy to help a friend. And they are teaching me, slowly, to both give and receive. So the next time someone says, “No charge. We’re friends!” I will thank them heartily. But if they show u p later asking me to tutor them in English, I’ll make sure they tutor my son in Chinese as well, because there’s still no free lunch.
1、Why did the author insist paying the repairman while he was offered free repairs? A.Because he was an upright man.
B.Bec ause he didn’t know the repair man

D.Because he didn’t want to help others in return.
2、Generally, the author thinks that .
A.Chinese are generous always ready to help their friends
B.Chinese are good at exchange of equal values
C.Chinese are free enough to drink and chat with their friends
D.Chinese are helpful but don’t treasure time
3、The best title for the passage should be “”
A.Still No Free lunch
B.A Good Lesson From Chinese
C.True Help or Not
D.Learn to Both Give And Receive
4、Which of the following is TRUE?
A.All the Chinese that once gave the author help have asked him to tutor them in English
B.When a peasant knew the author needed a mill, he made one for the author himself C.The author thinks that Chinese are wise enough to enjoy the limited life
D.The author thinks little of the Chinese way of life.
24.(8分)Supermarket shelves are filled with plant-based alternatives to cow milk, including soy, nut, and coconut milk. These products are popular with consumers who cannot drink cows’ milk for health reasons, as well as with those concerned about animal welfare and environmental sustainability. While the dairy-free(非乳制的) options work well with cereal or in coffee, they fail miserably when it comes to making milk-based products like cheese or yogurt. However, these shortcomings may soon be a thing of the past, thanks to a new company in California, which has figured out how to create animal-free milk in a laboratory!
Perumal Gandhi and Ryan Pandya founded the company in 2014 after becoming increasingly annoyed with the lack of cows’ milk-free alternatives, particularly for cheese. For Gandhi, who stopped consuming animal products five years earlier due to environmental and animal welfare concerns, the motivation to create a better alternative stemmed from his love of cheesy pizza. Pandya was spurred into taking action after being forced to eat some “really bad” dairy-free cream cheese on his sandwich
The two MIT biomedical engineering scientists decided to join forces to create a more realistic alternative to dairy-based products. In their university lab, the pair spent nine months first isolating cow DNA then inserting it into yeast(酵母). This genetic
modification enabled the yeast to produce the necessary milk proteins. The final step of the process involved mixing the proteins with some plant nutrients and fats.
The dairy-free milk not only tastes like the real thing but is also healthier, has a longer shelf life and, most important of all, is Earth friendly. According to the company’s website, when compared to conventional milk production, their process uses 65% less energy, creates 84%o less greenhouse gas emissions and requires 91% less land and an amazing 98% less water! Best of all, since it contains real milk proteins, the product behaves like the cow-produced version, which means vegetarian consumers will no longer have to deal with soggy cheese on their sandwiches and pizzas.
The company plans to bring their creation to market later this year and their first product will most likely be cheese since there are already numerous good cows’ milk alternatives available to consumers.
1、The underlined word "those" in paragraph 1 refers to_______.
A.alternatives B.people

C.the over-consumption of the dairy-based products

3、What can be inferred from paragraph 4?
A.The dairy-free products cannot be stored for a long time.
B.The new products will taste better than dairy-based ones.
C.Cow farming causes considerable environmental damage.
D.The dairy-free milk will be more expensive than cow’s milk.
4、Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Healthier Cheese
B.New Milk Saves Planet
C.Fresher Milk, Better Future
D.Making Milk without Cows
