Whenl recently revealed to myfriends, colleagues, and family membersthat I would

However, it has come to the point when I have realized that for over 2 000 years we year ned for this land, and for 47 years I have denied the opport unity to make it my home. I am fin ally ready to fully grasp this opport un ity.
Over the years, I have always loved visit ing Israel. I have traveled there with

myhome. And as far as waiting for the " perfect " condition under which to makealiyah, I believe the time is now!
I have been asked many times if I amnervous about moving to Israel. Before I answer,
I remember that we have overcome the Greeks, the Roma ns, the Russia n killi ngs, Hitler and the Holocaust(大屠杀),and the armies of seven countries.
Howca n I not feel con fide nt that I, and my family, will overcome any difficulties that may come our way? I amnot worrying, complaining, crying, or fearing as I prepare
to make aliyah. I am proud and excited to say that I amfulfilling a 47-year-old dream; I am going home.

依擔第二段的屋句秤have found a number of reasons to put off makiiig it my permanent residence: kid^ economy, education...you name an excuse aad扯prob used 可知,以前作者没有做岀回以■色列的决定是因为找了种

Should we allow modern buildings to be built next to older buildings in a historic area of a city? In order to answer this question, we must
first examine whether people really want to preserve the historic feel of an area. Not all historical buildi ngs are attractive. However, there may be other reas ons
——
for example, economic reasons —why they should be preserved. So, let us assume that historical buildings are both attractive and important to the majority of people.
What should we do the n if a new buildi ng is n eeded?
In my view, new architectural styles can exist perfectly well alongside an older
style. In deed, there are many examples in my own hometow n of Tours where moder n
desig ns have bee n placed very successfully n ext to old buildi ngs. As long as the
building in question is pleasing and does not dominate(影响)its surroundings too much, it ofte n improves the attractive ness of the area.
It is true that there are examples of new buildings which have spoilt(破坏)the area they are in, but the same can be said of some old buildi ngs too. Yet people still speak against new buildings in historic areas. I think this is simply because
people are naturally conservative(保守的)and do not like change.
Although we have to respect people ' s feeli ngs as fellow users of the build in gs,
I believe that it is the duty of the architect and pla nner to move things forward. _______________
If we always reproduced what was there before, we would all still be living in caves.
Thus, I would argue aga inst copy ing previous architectural styles and choose someth ing fresh and differe nt, even though that might be the more risky choice.

1. What does the author say about historical buildings in the first paragraph?
A. Most of them are too expensive to preserve.
B. They are more pleasing than modern buildings.
C. They have nothing to do with the historic feel of an area.
D. Some of them are not attractive.

A. Some old buildings have spoilt the area they are in.
B. We should reproduce the same old build in gs.
C. Buildings should not dominate their surroundings.

The Science of Risk-Seek ing
Sometimes we decide that a little unn ecessary dan ger is worth it because whe n we weigh the risk and the reward, the risk seems worth taking. 1 Some of us enjoy activities that would surprise and scare the rest of us. Why? Experts say it may have to do with how our brains work.
The reason why any of us take any risks at all might have to do with early humans. Risk-takers were better at hunting, fight ing, or explori ng. 2 As the quality
of risk-taking was passed from one generation to the next, humans ended up with a sense of adve nture and a tolera nee for risk.
So why aren ' t we all jumping out of airplanes then? Well, even 200,000 years
ago, too much risk-taking could get one killed. A few daring persons survived, though, along with a few stay-i n-the-cave types. As a result, huma ns developed a range of character types that still exists today. So maybe you love car racing, or maybe you hate it. 3
No matter where you are on the risk-seeking range, scientists say that your
willi ngn ess to take risks in creases duri ng your tee nage years. 4 To help you do that, your brain in creases your hun ger for new experie nces. Newexperie nces ofte n mean taking some risks, so your brain raises your tolerance for risk as well.
5 For the risk-seekers, a part of the brain related to pleasure becomes
active, while for the rest of us, a part of the brain related to fear becomes active.
As experts continue to study the scienee of risk- seeking, we ' II continue to
hit the mountains, the waves or the shallow end of the pool.
A. It all depends on your character.
B. Those are the risks you should jump to take.
C. Being better at those things meant a greater cha nee of survival.
D. Thus, these well-equipped people survived because they were the fittest.
E. This is when you start to move away from your family and into the bigger world.
F. However, we are not all using the same referenee standard to weigh risks and
rewards.
G. Newbrain research suggests our brains work differently when we face a nervous situati on.

1. F 【解析】选项F 中的"weigh risks and rewards "与上文的" weigh the risk and the

Bei ng better at those thin gs "与上文的" were better at
hunting, fighti ng, or explori ng "相呼应,因此选C。

4. E 【解析】根据上文的" your willingness...teenage years "及下文的"hunger for
new experiences... "可知E项符合语境。

5. G 【解析】根据空后的" For the risk-seekers...becomes active "可知,此处讲的

It was on a warm autumn day that my father and I walk into my new high school. After
registered in the classroom , the volunteer took me to my dormitory. Altogether I had five roommates, two of which arrived later.I got to know my new roommate immediately. Although I was quite unwilling to say “Goodbye” to my father , but he had to leave
to home. I sudde nly realized I had grow n up and that I had to look after me and live
independently. Not until then I know my senior high school life had real begun.
me
after ,and live in depe nden tly.Not un til the n myself
life had ' beg un. really

It was on a warm autumn day "可知,事情 发生在过去,故用一般过去时。

第三处:the T a 。

第六处:删除but 或将but 改为yet 。

第七处:leave 后的to 改为for 。

第九处:then 后加did 。

did 。

It was on a warm autumn day that my father and I
walk wow
into my new high scho °l registered
the After in the classroom ,
volunteer took meto mydormitory. registeri ng a Altogether which I had 仏 roommates ,two of 亦arrived late 「」got to know my new roommate roommates
