Zhang Yi, Meng Feirong (SchoolofManagement,GuangdongOceanUniversity,Zhanjiang524088,China) Abstract:ThispapertakesMarinebiologicalmedicineindustryastheresearchsample,andadoptstheresearchmethodsof Bibliometricsandbasicresearchcompetitivenessindexestoinvestigatetheoveralldevelopmentstatusofthebasicresearch fieldofMarinebiologicalmedicineaswellasthebasicresearchcompetitivenessofthemajorcountries.TheresearchfindingsshowthatthebasicresearchfieldofMarinebiologicalmedicineexperiencedthreestagesandhasattractedextensive attentionfrom manycountriesintheworld,andtheUnitedStateshasbecomeanimportantresearchcenterinthisfield. ThebasicresearchfieldofMarinestrategicemergingindustriesisaninterdisciplinaryresearchfieldwithbroadextension, amongwhichtheuniversitiesandresearchinstitutionsarethemainforces,andtheirresearchfindingsarepublishedinthe importantSCIjournals(Quartiles1or2)from theresearchfieldsofchemistry,medicineandbiology.Inaddition,the growingtrendoftheactivestatusofChinaintheMarinebiologicalmedicineresearchfieldisremarkableandthegapwith thefourbenchmarkcountries(theUnitedStates,Japan,SpainandtheUnitedKingdom)isnarrowing.However,China 'sresearchpublicationsarestillsufferingfromalowimpact,andthematchingdegreebetweenpublicationsandcitationsin ChinalagsfarbehindthatinthedevelopedcountriessuchastheUnitedStates,Japan,UnitedKingdomandSpain,indicatingthatChinawouldtakealongtimetocatchupwiththem.Insummary,thisstudyhassomepracticalsignificancesas itisconducivetodeepeningourunderstandingonthesituationofbasicresearchcompetitivenessofmaincountriesandclarifyingthegapbetweenChinaandpowerfulmaritimenationsinthisfield.
