If you’re not getting along with your neighbours,or your social life is inactive, consider getting a pet, preferably a dog. A new Australian study has found that pet owners tend to interact more positively with their neighbours and wider community, and be out and about more. And dog
owners seem to be the friendliest and most social of all.
Lisa Wood, a lecturer at the University of Western Australia, with her colleagues conducted a random telephone survey of 339 adults from three suburbs in the Western Australian capital Perth, asking questions about pet ownership and social interaction.
They found that pet owners were more likely than people who didn't own a pet to acknowledge and exchange informal greetings with people from their neighbourhood, often while they were out with their pet, and to exchange favors with their neighbours.
Dog owners, in particular, seemed to enjoy good social contact. For example, more than half indicated that they had got to know people in their suburb as a result of their pet, and more than four-fifths talked to other pet owners when they walked their dogs.
But in general, pet owners, including goldfish owners, appeared to be more social than people who didn't own a pet, with fewer numbers reporting it hard to get to know people in their neighbourhood.
The research suggests owning a pet also motivates people to walk and use local parks, providing opportunities to meet new people; acts as a catalyst(催化剂)for taking part in community activities, and as a protector of mental health, which influences the ability to take part in community events and interact with local people.
56. According to the Australian study, __________________________.

Your genetic makeup plays a big part in determining your size and weight. If both your parents are tall, there is a good chance you'll be tall. But if your parents are smaller than average, you may want to rethink that professional basketball career!
The same goes for your body type. Have you ever heard someone say a person is "big boned?" It's a way of saying the person has a large frame, or skeleton. Big bones usually weigh more than small bones. That's why it's possible for two kids with the same height, but different weights, to both be the right weight.
Being overweight can run in someone's family, but it may not be because of their genes. Poor eating and exercise habits also run in families and these may be the reasons the members of a family are overweight. And even though some kids gain weight more easily than others, when they eat right and exercise, most kids can have a healthy weight that's right for them. It's true—the way you live can change the way you look.
How much your weight is a balance between the calories you eat and the calories you use. If you eat more calories than your body needs to use, you will gain too much weight. If you spend your free time watching TV, your body won't use as many calories as it would if you played basketball, skated, or went for a walk. But if you eat more and exercise less, you may become overweight. On the other hand, if you eat less and exercise more, you may lose weight.
61. Which one can be used as the best title of this passage?
A. What Makes Me the Weight I Have?
B. How Can I Lose More Weight?
C. What Makes Me the Height I Have?
D. Is the Way You Live Important?

65. _________ can help you to get your weight right.

Lack of exercise is considered a risk factor for cancer. There is considerable evidence that inactivity is connected with increased risk for
●Colon Cancer.
●Lung Cancer.
●Breast Cancer.
●Prostate Cancer.
In the Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study, more than 32,000 people (25,000+ men and 7,000+ women)were given a preventive medical examination that included a machine exercise test to measure physical fitness. They were given a physical fitness score, with one being the lowest and five being the highest fitness level.
Then these people were followed for an average of 8 years. During this time, 179 men and 44 women died of cancer.
Data from the Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study show lower rates of cancer with higher levels of physical fitness.
Studies from the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research in Dallas suggest that men with
high fitness levels are less likely to die of cancer.
The Aerobics Center Longitudinal Study also found that fitness level was more important than weight in predicting longevity(长寿)in a large group of men, some of whom were quite large. While results showed that fit and normal-weight is the ideal combination, researchers found that men who were fat but performed well on the machine performance had just a slightly increased all-cause death rate, including cancer, compared to the more slim men. The fat, but fit, men particularly lived longer than the slim, but flabby(肌肉松弛), men.
These statistics called for a warning for the overweight: The first health goal for the overweight should be to become as fit as possible at their current weight.

CHICAGO, Illinois –Listen! Up in the sky! What’s that loud, constant and harsh buzzing sound? It’s a grass eater in a bad mood! It’ a blender full of gravel! No. It’s Supercicada!
A cicada is a large insect with a fat body and big clear wings. It is gentle and harmless —except for one thing. It can do considerable harm to silence with its very loud mating call.
Every 17 years, a certain type of cicada — actually not the biggest kind — comes out of the ground in young form, climbs up a tree, sheds its hard shell, and opens up a lovely set of wings. After living underground in larval form for all those years, it now has about one month to buzz around and find a mate.
The 17-year type of cicada is common only in the eastern half of the United States. This year’s appearance in May and June happened mostly in parts of the United States. Because of the huge noise factor, a number of planned events had to be put off — such as outdoor concerts.
The noise made by just one male cicada can reach 90 decibels. That’s as loud as a kitchen blender. So many cicadas appear in some places that they actually break tree branches with their weight. As many as 1.5 million cicadas can crowd onto just one acre of trees.
The appearance of the 17-year variety may not be appreciated by all nearby humans. But it is appreciated by many nearby birds, squirrels, dogs, and cats. Dogs especially love the things — not because of their sound but because of the taste.
David Hammond of Chicago runs a restaurant. They decided this year to give cicadas a try —not raw, but fried and eaten with some kind of dip.

D. people in Illinois enjoy the sound of the crowd of cicadas

A. cicadas have clear and lovely wings in the adult form

If you are worried about things and are under a lot of stress at work or school, then you are probably not sleeping well. Worry can keep you awake, tossing and turning in bed until the early hours of the morning when you eventually fall asleep. When you wake up, you don't feel refreshed, but tired and worn out and unable to face a new day.
Dr. Henry Winkle, in a recent newspaper article entitled Stress and Sleep, indicates that____________________________________. Dr. Winkle says, "The more we worry, the less we sleep, the more we are unable to deal with stress. If we can find a way to get a good night's sleep," he adds, "we can often find the energy to deal with what's worrying us".
So, what is a good night's sleep? Research shows that the amount of sleep which people need in order to keep healthy varies a lot. Seven hours is about the average amount, though strangely enough, sleeping longer often gives you a headache instead of making you feel more refreshed.
Dr. Winkle believes that preparing for sleeping is important. People who work late should try to give themselves a short break and do something restful before going to bed. This could be watching TV or listening to music. Doing some exercise earlier in the day should help you feel physically as well as mentally tired. A bedtime drink can also help, but coffee or tea should be avoided as they contain caffeine and will keep you awake. "When you put the light out," Dr. Winkle says, "concentrate on relaxing your muscles, working slowly up from your feet, and you'll be asleep before you know it."
