In October2022a bird with the code name B6set a new world record.Over the course of11days,B6,a young Bar-tailed Godwit, flew from its hatching ground in Alaska to its wintering ground in Tasmania,covering8, 425miles without taking a single break.During its journey,B6did not land, did not eat,did not drink and did not stop flapping, sustaining an average ground speed of30miles per hour24hours a day as it winged its way to the other end of the world.
B6's long exciting journey is also a success of the remarkable mechanical features of some of the most easily recognized yet mysterious structures in the biological world:feathers.Feathers kept B6warm overnight while it flew above the Pacific Ocean.Feathers formed the flight surfaces of the wings that kept B6in the air for long.
One might expect that, considering all the time humans have spent admiring, using and studying feathers,we would know all their tricks by now.Yet insights into these amazing structures continue to emerge.Over the past decade scientists and researchers have been taking a fresh look at feathers.Collectively they have made surprising new discoveries about almost every aspect of their biology.
Starting in the1990s,a series of surprising fossil finds showed that feathers were widespread among several families of meat-eating dinosaurs known as theropods and that birds had inherited these structures from their theropod ancestors. The discovery of feathered nonbird dinosaurs help researchers understand the origin and evolution(进化)of feathers.
Feathers are a fantastic model system for understanding how complex structures evolve. The field of applied science has taken note of feathers'many brilliant features, which have already led to successful technological innovations. For instance, the surface texture(质感)and boundary-layer-control principles of penguin feathers have made their way into robotics.
No doubt feathers will give rise to more clever inventions in the future. We have only to let our creativity take flight.
17.Why did B6fly to Tasmania?
A.To cover8,425miles.
B.To have a break.
C.To survive the winter.
D.To practice flying.
18.What is the current situation of the research on feathers?
A.New discoveries keep appearing.
B.Every aspect has been covered.
C.People have known all the tricks.
D.Less time has been spent on study.
19.What does the underlined word“inherited”mean in paragraph4?
A.Promoted.
B.Acquired.
C.Recovered.
D.Protected.
20.How does the author present the application of feathers in technological innovations?
A.By analyzing data.
B.By explaining reasons.
C.By giving an example.
D.By introducing a detail.

What's Causing the Global Water Crisis?
Nothing survives without water, which is the most basic fact of life.Yet,we are facing a global water crisis that affects everything from agriculture to public health.21
Climate Change
Climate change makes the global water problem worse, especially in places where there's not enough water already.22Cutting down trees, like in forests, makes the climate even hotter, which is bad for water and land. For example,in some parts of Africa,a lot of the land where people grow food is getting ruined because of droughts caused by climate change.
Natural Disasters
A UNICEF report shows that nearly75%of all natural disasters from2001to2018were water-related, whether linked to climate change or not. This has added to the global water crisis. These disasters include droughts and floods, which can destroy or pollute water resources.23
Wastewater
24Sometimes water can be plentiful in an area. But whether that water is safe to drink...that's another story.Globally,44%of household wastewater is reused without being treated.25According to the UN,this means1.8billion people use water that is dirty with rubbish, chemicals,or other harmful pollutants.Wastewater causes many diseases around the world, such as cholera and polio.
A.However,these events will not happen
B.Here are the main reasons behind this crisis
C.This makes clean drinking water harder to find
D.Wastewater is another major reason for the global water crisis.
E.Wastewater reuse is also an effective way to case the water crisis.
F.About80%of all wastewater returns to the environment untreated
G.As the climate problem gets worse, there are fewer resources available.

Running Water
It was a hot summer evening in July, and I had accepted an invitation from my friend John to visit him and his family on their farm.
The family showed me around their farm, home to about thirty black and white Holstein cows. The fields were quiet and peaceful on this lazy Sunday afternoon. The creek,a small river, which poured down out of the mountains, sparkled in the sunlight as it ran through their green land. Now it was evening, and I listened with curiosity as they told me that one of their cows would give birth to a calf(a baby cow)out in the field.I was very interested in seeing the birth of the new calf, and really wanted to stay.
On my way out the door I heard John's father yelling something crazily from the field. The family became very excited and everyone ran out to see what was happening.
We could see their dad down by the riverside of the creek.Apparently the mother cow had wandered away from the cattle and slipped down the muddy riverside of the creek into the cold rushing water. The riverside was so high that the tractor(拖拉机)was needed to pull her out.We all ran through the field to the creek while one of John's brothers raced to the barn(谷仓)to get the tractor.
As we reached the creek we saw the poor cow had gone below the water, which was up to her neck, with the cold water rushing around her.By now there was some panic because the tractor that was needed to pull the cow out was very slow. And it still had some distance to cover from the barn to the creek.
Suddenly one of the girls yelled out,"The calf is coming.Someone has to jump in and help!"It had been a hot day,but by now the family had changed into jeans for the evening.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

As the only one still wearing shorts,I was chosen to jump in!
Now our next major concern was trying to get the calf warmed up.

Dear Chris,
Knowing that you're interested in table tennis in China,I am writing to recommend the sport to you.
Table tennis is highly popular in China, enjoyed by people of all ages and skill levels. You can find table tennis tables in many places like parks, schools and residential areas.Deeply rooted in Chinese culture,it has been a national pastime for decades.I highly recommend table tennis for two reasons. For one thing,it's a social sport that not only brings people together but also strengthens bonds through friendly competition and teamwork. For another, it's easy to learn and doesn't require expensive equipment, making it accessible to everyone.
If you're looking for a fun and engaging sport that promotes fitness and social interaction, table tennis is a perfect choice.

Li Hua 第三节读后续写(满分25分)
A Possible Version:
As the only one still wearing shorts,I was chosen to jump in!When I entered the water,I was shocked at how cold it really was and I found myself in ice cold rushing water up to my chest. At that moment I realized the calf was really coming—and right now.Within minutes a sixty-pound calf was born right into my arms!Moments later another pair of arms arrived to help, and the two of us floated the newborn calf to safety. The tractor finally arrived, and the rest of them succeeded in getting the calf out of the creek.
Now our next major concern was trying to get the calf warmed up.I was shivering, but the brand new calf was in real danger. One of the boys took off his T-shirt and handed it to me.I began rubbing the newborn with it to warm him up.The others had managed to rope the mother cow and were pulling her up with the tractor. The cow was now safe, and the calf finally survived. We talked about what we might name him,and one of the boys cleverly proposed calling him“Running Water!”。
