Let me start by introducing myself.My name is Jia Li and I'm a 13-year-old student here in Jinan, the capital city of Shandong Province in eastern China. I live here with my parents, grandparents, and my younger brother Xiao Ming who is 10 years old. Our apartment is in a big residential complex not too far from the city center.My dad works as an engineer at a car factory and my mom is an accountant at a bank downtown. Every morning, they leave for work before I wake up for school. My grandparents help takecare of me and Xiao Ming - making us breakfast, packing our lunches, and getting us off to school. I'm really close with my grandparents and love spending time with them.School life keeps me very busy as I'm sure it does for you too!I attend Jinan No. 3 Middle School which has over 2,000 students. The school week runs Monday to Friday, with classes from7:30am to 5pm. My favorite subjects are English, math, and art. I really enjoy English because I love learning about other cultures and being able to communicate in an international language. Math comes pretty easily to me too. And art class is a nice break where I can explore my creative side through drawing, painting, and crafting.My least favorite subject is probably PE (physical education) even though I know it's important to stay active and healthy. We have PE class twice a week where we run laps, play sports like basketball and badminton, and do exercise routines. I'm just not very athletic or coordinated so I don't really excel at those activities. Chinese class is also quite challenging with all the readings, poetry analysis, and essay writing we have to do. But I know it's crucial to master our native language and literature.In my free time after school, I have quite a busy schedule as well. On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, I go to tutoringclasses to get extra instruction and practice for core subjects like math, English, and Chinese. My parents really emphasize academics and want me to have every opportunity to get into a top university later on. I know the competition for college admission is intense here in China.On Tuesdays, I have art class at a local studio where I take drawing, Chinese brush painting, and calligraphy lessons. I find these artistic pursuits to be very relaxing and therapeutic after a long day at school. And on Thursdays, I attend a coding camp where I'm learning basic programming skills like Python, HTML, and Java. Coding is totally new for me but I'm finding it really interesting and fun so far!In my limited free time, I enjoy reading novels, listening to music, and hanging out with my friends. A couple times a month, my parents will take us to the movies to watch the latest releases. And in the summers, we often travel around China to visit different cities and historical sites which I always look forward to. Last year, we went to Beijing and got to tour famous landmarks like the Forbidden City, Tiananmen Square, and the Great Wall.
