Growing up as kids we are told to share our toys and notto be selfish. We also live in an age when discussing our feelings is encouraged. But when does it all become too much? With new crazes trending all the time, such as dance challenges and wearing a carpet as a dress, the question is: when can sharing become oversharing on social media?
“Oversharing” has become associated with social media, but it isn'texclusiveto this platform. Imagine you head to a party and meet x k w someone. Within five minutes they have revealed private details about their life. While some of us may try to escape these people, according to marriage advisor Carolyn Cole, this form of oversharing could come from a strong desire to connect with someone. But how does this translate to social media?
Dr. Christopher Hand, a lecturer in cyberpsychology (网络心理学),says the more details people disclose, the less sympathy we express when things go wrong. It seems that searching for sympathy by oversharing is generally considered as negative rather than the cry for help it could really be.
However, Dr. Hand's research also seems to suggest that the more we post on a platform, the more socially attractive we become-provided that the posts that we bang out are positive. Even back in 2015, Gwendolyn Seidman PhD said that we should avoid complaining and being negative online. We should also avoid showing off, especially about our love lives. It makes sense-if your date is going “that well", would you really have time to share a photo with text?
So, how can you know if you are oversharing? Well, why not ask your friends in real life. They would probably be happy to tell you if your posts about your breakfast or your complaints about your lack of money really are too much.
4. What does the underlined word “exclusive" in paragraph 2 mean?
A. Unique.
B. Similar.
C. Relevant.
D. Fundamental.
5. Why do some people prefer oversharing at parties?
A. To draw others' attention.
B. To satisfy others' curiosity.
C. To remove negative feelings.
D. To develop good relationships.
6. Which of the following may Dr. Hand agree with?
A. Sharing more details online can attract more sympathy.
B. Oversharing negative experiences is equal to crying for help.
C. Sharing negative posts can't help one become socially attractive.
D. Oversharing isn't likely to happen online when things go wrong.
7. According to the text, what should be avoided for online sharing?
A. Reflecting on past bad manners.
B. Showing a great many expensive goods.
C. Writing a recipe for a balanced breakfast.
D. Recording unforgettable moments with friends.
C
Did you know people who live in different parts ofChinahave different habits and preferences? For example, people from southernChinaprefer to eat vegetables, while people from northChinalike to eat meat. According to a new study in a journal, gene variations (变异) might be responsible for these differences. Researchers fromChina’s BGI collected genetic information from 141,431 Chinese women, who came from 31 provinces and consisted of 36 ethnic minority groups.
They found that natural selection has played an important role in the ways that people living in different
regions of China have developed, affecting their food preferences, immunities (免疫力) to illness and physical features.
A variation of the gene FADS2 is more commonly found in northern people. It helps people metabolize (新陈代谢) fatty acids, which suggests a diet that is rich in flesh. This is due to climate differences.Northern Chinais at a higher latitude. This weather is difficult to grow vegetables in. Therefore, northerners tend to eat more meat.
The study also found differences in the immune systems of both groups. Most people in southernChinacarry the gene CR1, which protects against malaria. Malaria was once quite common in southernChina. In order to survive, the genes of people in the south evolved to fight against this disease. However, people in the south are also more sensitive to certain illnesses, as they lack the genes to stop them.
Genes can also cause physical differences between northerners and southerners. Most northerners have the ABCC11 gene, which causes dry earwax, less body smell and fewer sweats. These physical differences are also more beneficial to living in cold environments. Southerners are less likely to have this gene, as it did not develop in their population.
8. What did the new study focus on?
A. Regions.
B. Eating habits.
C. Gene variations.
D. Ethnic minority groups.
9. What is the main function of the gene FADS2?
A. It helps store fat.
B. It helps digest meat.
C. It helps gain weight.
D. It helps treat an illness.
10. According to the study, most northerners ________.
A. sweat less frequently
B. are immune to malaria
C. prefer vegetables to meat
D. are more sensitive to climates
11. How many differences did the study find related to genes?
A. Two.
B. Three.
C. Four.
D. Five.

In the Pacific Northwest during winter, 5:15 am might as well be the dead of night. The alarm goes off and the onlylight is the red glow from my clock. My body says, “Go back to bed.” But I don’t. I know my running partner will be waiting in the street and I’m not going to stand her up. Then I walk onto the road, complaining about the cold and wishing I were back under my warm covers.
If you’d have asked me a year ago if I could see myself running at 5:15 on a winter morning, I’d have laughed.
Morning just wasn’t my thing and running in the morning was something I didn’t even consider. “I prefer to work out in the middle of the morning or in the afternoon,” I’d say to my friends who go to the gym before work.
Then, last fall I reconnected with an old neighborhood friend. She’d been running in the morning and taken off forty pounds that year. When I looked in the mirror, I knew I could benefit from the same kind of weight loss. I asked if I could join her. I knew I needed to change something if I was going to get back in shape.
The first two months were especially hard, because we ran twice a week at 5:15 am and I slept till 7:00 the other mornings. But as I’ve adjusted to the routine of running, I’ve discovered great joys that make it even more worthwhile than a little weight loss.
While I haven’t lost forty pounds yet, it’s amazing how much more energy I have and how much stronger I feel. Because of the morning run, the rest of my day is more productive. I wouldn’t say I’ve become a morning person, but I would say morning running is now my thing.
12. What can we know about the author from paragraph 1?
A. 5:15 is the ideal time for her to exercise.
B. She prefers to run without any company.
C. She takes the run with warm clothes on.
D. She goes for a run in spite of the cold and early rise.
13. What was the author’s attitude to morning running a year ago?
A. Scared.
B. Unfavorable.
C. Supportive.
D. Confused.
14. What made the author begin to run in the morning?
A. Her partner’s encouragement.
B. Her friend’s suggestion.
C. Realizing the benefits of running.
D. Realizing the harm of being fat.
15. What effect does morning runninghave on the author?
A. She has become slim again.
B. She has become more confident.
C. She has become more energetic.
D. She has become more exhausted.
