My Life as an 8th Grader in Leizhou City
Hi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm a 14-year-old student in the 8th grade at Leizhou No. 1 Middle School here in Leizhou City, Guangdong Province. I've been asked to write about my daily life and experiences as a middle school student for my mid-term English writing assignment, so here goes!
I wake up pretty early every morning around 6 AM. My mom makes me a simple but yummy breakfast of congee with pickled vegetables and an egg. After eating, I get dressed in my school uniform - a white shirt and navy blue pants. Our school is quite strict about the uniform policy.
At 7:15 AM, I grab my backpack full of books and homework and head out the door. I live pretty close to school, just a 10 minute walk away. The roads are always busy with cars, buses, scooters and people on their way to work or school. The air smells like exhaust and street food sizzling at the outdoor stalls. Leizhou is a busy little city!
I arrive at school around 7:25 AM and join the long lines of students waiting to enter the campus gates. We have to go through security checks - they inspect our bags and we walk through metal detectors. Safety is very important at Chinese schools.
Once inside, I go to my locker to switch out my books for morning classes. The school day officially starts at 7:40 AM with a flag raising ceremony in the courtyard where we sing the national anthem. Then it's off to my first few classes - Chinese, math and English.
The classes are pretty tough and we have tons of homework and assignments. My favorite is English though, as I love learning foreign languages and cultures. My English teacher Mr. Wang is great and makes the lessons fun with games and activities. He really emphasizes practicing conversation skills.
At 11:40 AM, classes end for the morning and we get a nice long lunch break until 2 PM. I meet up with my best friend Xiaoli and we head to the cafeteria to buy some cheap but tasty meals. My favorite is the beef noodle soup. The cafeteria is always a madhouse with hundreds of hungry students!
After lunch, Xiaoli and I might play basketball or badminton for a little while in the courtyard. Exercise and sports are really
encouraged at our school to promote fitness. Sometimes we just relax somewhere quiet and do homework together.
Afternoon classes start up again at 2 PM and run until 5:30 PM. We have classes like history, geography, physics and PE. The academic demands are intense - we have tons of homework, tests, quizzes and exams. The pressure to perform well is high, as our scores determine what kind of high school we can attend.
Once classes end for the day, it's time for extracurricular activities. On Mondays I have Chinese yo-yo club. Tuesdays are computer programming lessons. Wednesdays I take kung fu classes and Fridays are English conversation practice. We stay very busy!
I don't get home until around 7 or 8 PM. I'm usually starving, so my wonderful mom always has a delicious home-cooked dinner waiting for me. After eating, I take a quick shower and then it's time for even MORE homework and studying. I'm usually working away at my desk until 11 PM or midnight. Sleeping 6-7 hours is pretty typical for me during the school week.
On weekends, I finally get a bit of a break from the hectic pace. I love sleeping in until 9 or 10 AM! Saturdays I have cram school from 8 AM to 12 PM for extra tutoring in core subjects.
Afternoons are my free time to hang out with Xiaoli, watch movies, play video games or go to the park. Sundays I attend Chinese tutoring classes in the morning and math tutoring in the afternoon. I also try to get any remaining homework done on Sundays.
Don't get me wrong - I cherish my middle school years and all the opportunities for learning and growth. But the academic workload and parental expectations can feel overwhelming at times. There is immense pressure to excel so you can attend a prestigious high school and later university. Failure is not really an option in the Chinese educational system.
My biggest hope is to test into a great high school program next year, as that will open doors to the top universities in China and maybe even abroad. My parents have such high aspirations for me and I want to make them proud. Sometimes the stress and anxiety does get to me though.
That's a little glimpse into my life as an 8th grade middle school student here in Leizhou City. It's a daily grind of classes, homework, extracurriculars and studying. But I know it will all be worth it in the end to have an excellent education. Thanks for reading my essay! Let me know if you have any other questions.

My Hometown - Leizhou City
Hi there! My name is Zhang Xiaoming and I'm an 8th grader at Leizhou No. 1 Middle School. For this mid-term English composition, I'm going to tell you all about my wonderful hometown - Leizhou City.
Leizhou is a county-level city that belongs to Zhanjiang City in the very southern part of Guangdong Province. It's located on a peninsula, with the South China Sea on three sides. Because of this peninsula geography, we have a really long coastline with many beautiful beaches and bays. The weather is subtropical, staying pretty

My Life as an Eighth Grader in Leizhou City
Hey there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm an 8th grade student at Leizhou No. 1 Middle School here in Leizhou City, which is part of Zhanjiang in Guangdong Province. I'm about to take my mid-term exams, including an English composition, so I thought I'd write about my daily life and experiences as a middle school student in this small city.
Leizhou isn't a huge place, but it's got its own cool vibe. It's right on the coast of the South China Sea, so we've got some nice beaches. And the weather is usually warm and sunny, which is perfect for heading to the beach or just hanging out with friends after school.
Speaking of school, that's a huge part of my life of course! I wake up around 6:30am every morning and head to school by 7:30. Classes officially start at 8am and we have 7 class periods each day, covering the core subjects like Chinese, math, English, physics, chemistry, and history. The classes are pretty intense with a lot of homework, tests, and memorization required.
I have to admit, keeping up with all the schoolwork can be really stressful at times. The academic pressure is pretty high, as our parents and teachers really emphasize the importance of working hard to get into a good high school and eventually a top university. Sometimes I just want to take a break from all the studying! That's why I really cherish my time outside of school.
After classes end around 5pm, I either head home or go meet up with my friends. We'll often go to the nearby park and play basketball, soccer, or just hang out. Sometimes we grab street food like jianbing or luzhu gaifan for a snack. The food here is so yummy!
On weekends, my friends and I like to go biking along the beach or around the city's old town area, which has a cool blend of modern and historic architecture. There are also some fun arcades and gaming lounges that we'll hit up. If we've got some extra pocket money, we might catch a movie at the cinema too.
One thing I'm definitely grateful for is the strong sense of community here. Our neighborhood is really tight-knit, with lots of multi-generational families living close together. The older folks will sit outside in the evenings and chat or play chess and mahjong. And the kids all know each other from growing up and going to school together. It's a very safe and friendly atmosphere.
That community feel extends to our school as well. While the academics are intense, the teachers are also very caring and approachable. They make an effort to get to know each student and their families. And we have a lot of fun extracurricular activities at school too, like sports teams, music and dance clubs, and field trips.
One of my favorite school events is the annual English Speech Contest. I've entered it the past few years to practice my English skills, and it's always such an exciting event. We also have an English Corner activity once a week where we gather to
converse in English with teachers and language partners. It's a great way to build confidence!
Another really cool event is the annual Beach Culture Festival here in Leizhou. It's a multi-day party right on the beach, with lots of music, dancing, beach sports, and of course, tons of incredible seafood! We'll camp out on the sand, swim in the ocean, and just soak up the festive vibes. It's a great way to celebrate our amazing coastal location.
So while life as an 8th grader in Leizhou definitely has its fair share of hard work and academic stress, there's also a wonderful balance of fun, community, and appreciation for our unique local culture. The easygoing beach town atmosphere combined with the focus on education creates a really special environment to grow up in.
As I prepare for my exams and look ahead to high school, I'm trying my best to soak it all in and not take this time for granted. Because I know how lucky I am to be experiencing my formative years in such a warm, welcoming, and culturally rich place like Leizhou City.
Well, thanks for letting me share a little bit about my world here! I've got to get back to studying, but I'll leave you with the famous Leizhou saying: "When the tide is out, it's time to dig for
clams!" It basically means to make the most of every situation in life. Something I'm definitely trying my best to do.

My Hometown Leizhou
Hey there! My name is Zhang Xiaoming and I'm a student in the 8th grade at Leizhou No. 1 Middle School. Today, I want to tell you all about my amazing hometown - Leizhou City!
Leizhou is a small city in the western part of Guangdong Province, located near the coast. Even though it's not a huge metropolis like Guangzhou or Shenzhen, I think Leizhou is one of the coolest places you could ever visit. Let me explain why.
First off, we've got some incredible natural scenery here. The beaches in Leizhou are simply breathtaking, with long stretches of golden sand and crashing blue waves. My favorite is Huguang Beach - on a sunny day it's like a little slice of paradise. I love spending sunny afternoons there swimming, building sandcastles, and eating delicious local seafood from the vendors.
Speaking of seafood, the cuisine here is out of this world! Being a coastal city, we get an abundance of fresh fish, shrimp, crab, and other tasty treats from the sea. Local specialties include
Leizhou fermented shrimp paste, steamed grouper, and my personal favorite - Leizhou seafood soup. This rich, flavorful soup is packed with shrimp, fish, squid, and vegetables. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water!
In addition to the amazing food and beaches, Leizhou is also home to some incredible cultural sites and natural wonders. One unmissable attraction is the Qiniang Mangrove Nature Reserve, one of the largest mangrove forests in China. Taking a boat tour through these ancient, tangled mangrove trees is such a surreal experience. You can spot all sorts of cool birds, crabs, and other wildlife living in the mangroves.
Another must-see is the Qing Dynasty-era Nanhanxi Fortified Passages. These huge, winding tunnels and passageways were built into the hills as a defensive stronghold. Exploring the dark tunnels is exciting, but also a little creepy if I'm being honest! You can almost feel the presence of the ancient soldiers who once guarded these fortifications.
Leizhou also has quite a few fun theme parks and recreational spots that are perfect for kids like me. There's Leizhou Fun Paradise, an awesome amusement park with crazy roller coasters that'll make your stomach drop. And Xiangying
Hot Spring Resort has giant water slides and hot spring pools that are so relaxing after a long day.
But you know what I love most about Leizhou? The laid-back, friendly vibe of this place. Despite being a decent-sized city, Leizhou still has a real small-town feel. The pace of life is slow and easy-going, the people are warm and welcoming, and there's a strong sense of community. Everybody seems to know everybody here!
On holidays and special occasions, the whole city comes alive with vibrant traditions and festivities. The Leizhou Folk Song Festival every September is a total blast, with people performing traditional operas and folk music. And during Chinese New Year, the streets are decorated with beautiful red lanterns and bursting with the sounds of firecrackers and drums. Those are some of my favorite times of year!
So yeah, that's my beloved hometown of Leizhou in a nutshell. It may not be the biggest or fanciest city out there, but in my books it's just about perfect. The gorgeous beaches, incredible food, rich culture, and wonderful people make this little corner of Guangdong an absolute gem. I feel so lucky to call Leizhou home!
Anyway, that's all from me for now. Thanks for reading about my awesome city - I hope you get the chance to visit Leizhou someday and experience the magic for yourself. Until next time, stay cool!

My Life As an 8th Grader in Leizhou City
Hi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm an 8th grade student at Leizhou No. 1 Middle School in Leizhou City, which is part of Zhanjiang in Guangdong Province, China. I thought I'd tell you all about my daily life as an 8th grader here!
First off, let me describe my school a bit. It's a pretty big school with over 2,000 students from grades 7 to 12. The campus is really nice with lots of trees and gardens. We have a few different classroom buildings, a big playground, basketball and badminton courts, and even a swimming pool! The facilities are great.
My typical day starts very early, around 6am. I have to get up, get dressed in my school uniform (grey pants/skirt and white shirt), eat breakfast, and leave for school by 7am. Classes officially start at 7:30am sharp. We have four 45-minute classes in the morning, with a 30-minute break after the second class
where we can go outside, grab a snack from the little store, or hang out in our classrooms.
The classes we take include Chinese, math, English, physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, and PE. My favorite subjects are English and biology because I find them really interesting. Chinese is probably my worst subject - I just find all the characters so hard to memorize! Math is tough too. I'm an average student overall, keeping my grades around 80-85% most of the time.
After the morning classes, we get a 2-hour lunch break from 11:30am to 1:30pm. During this time, we can go home for lunch if we live close by, or eat in the school cafeteria. The cafeteria food is pretty good - they have lots of classic Chinese dishes like fried rice, dumplings, noodles, veggies, etc. I usually just eat with my classmates in the cafeteria though since I live a 20 minute walk from school.
In the afternoons from 1:30pm to 4:30pm, we have 2-3 more classes, depending on the day. Tuesdays and Thursdays we have evening self-study sessions from 6:30pm to 8:30pm too. These are times when we can stay after class and study in our classrooms or the library. The teachers are available to help us if we have any questions on homework or certain topics we're
struggling with. I find the evening self-study pretty helpful for getting all my homework done before going home.
Once classes are over for the day, I'll either go straight home, or sometimes I'll hang out with friends for a little while first. We might go to a cafe, walk around the neighborhood parks, or just sit and chat on the school playground for an hour or so.
At home in the evenings, it's pretty much meals, homework, maybe some TV/video games, and then bed around 10pm. My parents are always nagging me to work harder and get better grades! On weekends, we fortunately don't have any regular classes. I'll usually spend Saturday mornings doing homework and self-study. In the afternoons I have fun - going to the park, meeting up with friends, watching movies, etc. Sundays are total free days with no studying at all!
That's my weekly routine as an 8th grader here. Of course, things get a bit more hectic when we have major tests like midterms or finals coming up. Those weeks we pretty much have to be studying non-stop, going to evening cram sessions, doing practice test after practice test. The teachers load us up with so much homework and prep materials. It's intense, but I know it's to get us ready for the huge high school and college entrance exams we'll face very soon.
Other than academics, I do have time for some extracurricular activities and hobbies too. I'm part of the school's English Drama Club where we perform little plays and skits in English a few times per semester. It's really fun and has helped me improve my spoken English so much. I also love swimming, so I try to get to the school pool 2-3 times per week in the evenings or on weekends for swimming practice. I'm thinking of trying out for the school swim team next year.
Well, that's a glimpse into my life as a middle school student here in Leizhou City! It's a lot of work juggling so many classes and homework assignments. But I'm trying my best because I know keeping my grades up in 8th grade is super important for getting into a good high school next year. From there, it'll be another few years of really intense studying in order to score well on the notorious Chinese college entrance

My Wonderful Life in Leizhou City
Hi there! My name is Xiaoming and I'm an 8th grade student at Leizhou No. 1 Middle School in the amazing city of Leizhou, which is part of Zhanjiang in Guangdong Province. I absolutely
love living in this vibrant and historic place! Let me tell you all about my wonderful life here.
Leizhou is a relatively small city, but it's packed with incredible sights, friendly people, and lots of fun things to do. It has a really long history dating back over 2,000 years to the Qin Dynasty. You can still see remnants of the old city wall and gates that used to protect Leizhou. My favorite place is the Mazu Cultural Park where there are beautiful temples and sculptures dedicated to the famous Mazu sea goddess. The park is right on the coast overlooking the South China Sea. I love going there early in the morning when the air is cool and watching the fishing boats leaving the harbor.
Speaking of fishing, seafood is definitely a big part of the cuisine here since Leizhou is a coastal city. My mom makes the most mouth-watering Leizhou-style shrimp porridge. It's a thick, savory rice porridge filled with fresh shrimp, pork, vegetables, and secret spices. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water! We also have lots of other delicious dishes like stir-fried clams, steamed fish, and fried shrimp rolls. Being from the subtropical region, we eat tons of tropical fruits too like lychee, longan, and rambutan.
Even though it's not a huge metropolis, Leizhou has all the modern amenities and conveniences you could want. We have several big shopping malls, movie theaters, parks, libraries, you name it. My friends and I love going to Kfc or Pizza Hut after school and just hanging out. One of the newest attractions is the giant Ferris wheel overlooking the ocean. At night, it lights up in dazzling colors that you can see from everywhere in the city center.
What I cherish most though are the kind and
community-oriented people of Leizhou. Despite being a growing city, it still has maintained that warm small-town feel where neighbors look out for each other. Every year, there are tons of lively street festivals and celebrations for events like Chinese New Year, the Qingming Festival, the Dragon Boat Festival, and more. The whole community comes together to perform dragon dances, set off firecrackers, and indulge in all kinds of delicious street food. It's such a vibrant atmosphere of family, tradition, and joy.
My favorite festival is definitely Chinese New Year though. The streets are decorated with beautiful red lanterns, couplets, and other auspicious decorations. On New Year's Eve, my entire extended family gathers at my grandparents' house for a huge
reunion dinner with all the traditional dishes like niangao, dumplings, fish, and sweet dessert soup. After the meal, we give red envelopes to the kids, set off firecrackers in the streets, and the whole city is filled with lights and the sounds of celebrations. It's magical!
In my free time, I really enjoy outdoor activities with my friends. We'll often go cycling along the coastal paths or hiking the trails in the nearby Lvzhou Nature Reserve. The reserve has lush forests, waterfalls, and lots of cool birds and wildlife that we can observe. Sometimes we pack a picnic and spend the whole day there, swimming in the rivers and looking for interesting plants and insects. I'm grateful we have such beautiful natural areas so close to the city to explore.
Being a student definitely keeps me busy too of course! I love going to Leizhou No. 1 Middle School and learning new things every day, especially English. My English teacher is from the USA and he makes our classes really fun and interactive. We learn cool slang, watch movies and TV shows, and even put on short English plays sometimes. Studying English opens up a whole new world for me and allows me to understand music, movies, books, and pop culture from the West. Who knows, maybe I'll be an English teacher myself one day!
Overall, I feel extremely lucky to be growing up in such an amazing place like Leizhou. It's the perfect blend of ancient tradition and modern conveniences. I get to experience the amazing seafood, festivals, and culture of this historic coastal city. At the same time, I have access to all the latest technology, entertainment, and educational opportunities. Most importantly though, I'm surrounded by kind and community-oriented people who make me feel safe, supported, and part of something bigger.
I really can't imagine a better place to live and go to school. Here's to many more happy years in wonderful Leizhou City!。
