A
Our eating habits are very important for good health and a strong body. There are times when most of us would have sweet and ice-cream rather than eat meat and rice. Sweets and ice-cream are not bad for the stomach if we eat at the end of a meal. If we drink beer at meals, it may take away your appetite (食欲). It is important for us to eat our meal at the same time each day. When we feel hungry, it is a sign (征兆) that our body needs food. When we feel angry or excited, we may not want to eat.
A long time ago, in England, some judges (法官) often decided whether a man was telling the truth by giving him some dry bread. If the man could not swallow the bread, it was a sign that he was not telling the truth. Although this seems very strange and rather foolish (愚蠢), it is really a good way of finding out the truth. A man who is worried has difficulty in swallowing anything dry. Because of his worriment, he loses his appetite and doesn't want to eat.
26.Why do we have to form good eating habits
A.Because we want to eat more. B.Because we enjoy our meal. C.Because we want to save time. D.Because we want to keep fit. 27.When do you think it is good to eat sweets and ice-cream according to the passage
A.When we are happy. B.When we have a good appetite. C.After a meal. D.Before a meal.

29.When does the writer think it would be better to have our meal A.When our work is over. B.At the fixed time every day.
C.When we feel happy. D.When every family member is at home. 30.What could a man do if he told a lie according to some judges in old England
A.He could eat a lot of food. B.He could hardly need any food. C.He could swallow some dry bread easily. D.He could not swallow any dry bread

You've probably heard of working dogs that help police officers, or horses that help farmers. Did you know that carrier pigeons (信鸽) can be trained to help people too Here are some examples.
Carrier pigeons can be trained to carry messages to people. The note is placed into a small can. The can is tied to the pigeon's leg. Then the pigeon flies off with the note.
Lifeguard
From high up in the sky, specially trained pigeons can find orange life jackets in the ocean. Sometimes it is difficult for humans to find people lost at sea, especially when the weather is bad. However, pigeons can fly quickly over a large area of water to look for people.
Spy
Many years ago, carrier pigeons were used to help our country during wars (战争). "Spy pigeons" had small cameras that were tied to their feet. As a pigeon flew over enemy (敌人) land, the camera took photos of the land below. This would allow our soldiers to see where the enemies were and what they were doing.

It was midday when I got the call that my grandfather was not well and he was quickly getting worse. My family did not know how long he would stay in the world. I knew I had to get to the hospital to tell him how much I loved him. As I drove to the hospital, I pictured him before I got
to tell him how much he meant to me. Trying to fight back the tears, I wanted to stay calm when I saw him.
When I got to the hospital, I hurriedly looked for his hospital room. I found him in a semi-conscious state (半清醒状态). On my knees, I said softly, "Hello, Grandpa."
Still feeling shy, I decided not to leave his bedside without letting him know. While I asked about how he was, he told me, "I'll be fine, Henry." although we both knew that wasn't true. Then he asked me with a smile how I was doing.
Hearing what my grandpa said, I was much moved. I made the decision that I had to show my gratitude for him. As I found all the courage (勇气) I had, I hold his hand tightly. I cried out, "Grandpa. I just want to let you know how much I love you. I hope you already know that yet I just want to make sure." By this time, tears were rolling down my face. All those years of love that I had shut and not let him know, became free. Smilingly, he said, "I know. Thank you for telling me that. All I have on this planet is my family and my love for them. If there is anything I could ask of you, I want you to be good to your family, your mother, your father, and your brother. That's all I want of you."
What I learned that day changed my whole life.
From then on, I began telling people how much I love them, care for them, and respect them. I get in touch with, for example, my babysitter,
my barber, to show my appreciation. I go down into the city once a week and serve pizza to the homeless. I wake up every morning and list everything I'm thankful to in my life.

It is known to us all that there is a long history and great culture in China. Respecting our dear parents is one of the China's traditional moral values. However, a number of students today are 'the only child' in the family. On account of this, they often regard themselves as the first one in the family without caring much for their dear parents. Nowadays a TV program called 'Learning to Respect Our Parents' is set up to teach the youth how to show respect to the parents. For example, we should remember our dear parents' birthday and give our best wishes to them. We should often help them with housework. When we are leaving home, we should tell them where we are going and what we will do. Furthermore, we are supposed to greet our parents when they come home from work and so on. The program has made an important effect
on society and it has been a great success. In general, parents are the first teacher of the children. They give us life. Whatever we shall do in the future, we must respect our parents.。
