One of the trickiest sections is always the reading comprehension with those pesky fill-in-the-blank questions. You not only have to understand the nuances of the passage, but you need impeccable v___ skills too.Let me walk you through a practice passage I just did on the topic of b___ behavior. It started off with a brief definition:"B___ behavior refers to the actions of an individual or group that are intended to benefit another individual or group, often at some c___ or r___ to themselves."Okay, easy enough to fill those in - "benevolent", "covering", and "risk". But then it got trickier with a first letterfill-in-the-blank:"One famous e___ of benevolent behavior is that of the38-year-old Wesley Autrey, who r___ onto the subway tracks in New York City in 2007 after a student had s___ and fallen in front of an oncoming train."For that one, you needed "example", "risked", and "suffered" (or possibly "slipped"). The passage described how Autrey laidhimself over the student in a t___ between the electrified rail and the concrete wall as the train passed over them.It then went into more detail about the concept using a choice of words fill-in-the-blank format:"Benevolent behavior is often seen as (altruistic / egotistical) as it involves a conscious (sacrifice / benefit) of one's own (interests / talents) for the wellbeing of another. It contrasts with (selfish / selfless) behavior that is solely concerned with maximizing one's own (advantages / disadvantages)."Getting those right was crucial for understandingthe overall concept. The correct choices are: altruistic, sacrifice, interests, selfless, and advantages. The passage kept alternating between these twofill-in-the-blank styles, reallyforcing you to deeply comprehend and precisely use vocabulary. Like this one:"While benevolent behavior may initially seem (irrational / rational) from the perspective of the individual carrying it out, scientists have found there are a___ benefits that come from such actions."That "a___" iscalling for the word "actual". And the correct choice for the bracketed section is "irrational".Towards the end, it asked about potential e___ for such behavior:"Some evolutionary biologists propose that humans evolved t___ for benevolence because it strengthened tribal b___ and improved the chances of genes being passed on."Those blanks are calling for "explanations", "tendencies", and "bonds".The last sentence wrapped it up nicely:"While the (calculations / motivations) behind benevolent behavior can be (complicated / simple), the positive (impact / difficulty) it has on others is clear."You'd want to fill that in as "motivations", "complicated", and "impact篇3The Shanghai Middle School English Exam - Fill in the Blank and Word Choice PracticeHey guys! For the word choice questions, decide which of the four options makes the most sense in the given context.I can't stress enough how important it is to read each sentence carefully and use context clues. For the word bank, try not to just pick words you recognize - really think about which one makes the most coherent sense in each blank. And for the word choice section, use context from the whole sentence to determine subtle shades of meaning between the options. This passage covers a lot of common themes you might see on the test, like describing a place, narrating experiences and interactions, or discussing feelings and perspectives. As long as you stick with it and apply the strategies we've learned for these question types, I'm confident you'll be able to tackle them successfully. Let me know if you have any other questions! Best of luck to everyone.。

But you don't do this.So instead you use the s familiar words for every site –your dog's name, the name of your street –with occasional ingenious(灵巧的) permutations(排列), such asadding S at the end. Or maybe you do try to follow the rules, in which case you'rep constantly getting locked (卡住)out of your bank account or trying to remember the answers to various absurd(荒谬的)security questions. Not you, that's for sure. One reason not to feel too guilty(内疚的)about your bad password behaviour is that it seems to be almost universal. Last month, an analysis of leaked pin numbers (泄露密码)revealed that about one in 10 of us uses S4; a recent securitybreach at Yahoo s that thousands of users' passwords were either password, welcome, S456 orinja. This is where the length of your password makes an almost unbelievable d . For a hacker with the computing power to make 1,000 guesses per second, afive-letter, purely random, all-lower-case password, such aspqzy, would take threeand three-quarter hours to crack(打开). Increase the number of letters to 20 and the cracking t increases, just a little bit: it's 6.5 thousand trillion centuries. The least hackable password, then, would be a long string of c randomletters, numbers, spaces and symbols –but you'd never remember it. However, because length matters(要紧)so much, the surprising truth is that a longish(稍长的) string of random English words, all in lower case –say, awoken wheels angling(钓鱼)ostrich –is actually much more secure than a s password that follows your bank's annoying rules, such as wq89453.One day, we may not have to worry about a of this: there are innovations(创新)in development that might replace passwords entirely. According to the Daily Mail, the volcano in the Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, US, has been rising at a record rate since 2004. Its magma (岩浆)surface has gone u 87 3 inches centimeters) per year over the last three years alone. This rise is one of themain s 88 that a volcano is about to erupt. However, scientists are not certain when the eruption will happen or what it will cause.Unlike what happens in the movie 2012, a volcano eruption would not destroy the whole world, b 89it could cause huge damage to people living nearby. For example, the 2010 eruption of the Iceland Volcano caused more than 800 people to 1 90 their homes and many airports in European countries to shut down for a few days. There are more than 1,500 active volcanoes in the world. A volcano is c 91 active if it has erupted atleast once during the last 10, 000 years. In ancient times, more than 80 percent of the earth's surface was volcanic. Volcanic eruptions formed the sea floor and some mountains over many years. Gas from volcanoes formed the earth's atmosphere (大气) .Volcanoes come from very hot liquid rock, that is magma, inside the earth. When magma comes upward and breaks through the earth's surface, it forms volcanoes. The rising magma heats water, which leads to explosions of steam. This pushes rocks and ash high into the sky.

2. day.

3. away. turn away from意为“背离”。

5. light. give light

6. doesn't.

7. from.

8. than.

9. moon.

10. farther.

BDogs are good pets. They are very f 1 to people and also very beautiful. Most dogs get on verywell with c 2 and their parents. Others are good watch-dogs because they cry loudly when as 3arrives. When you buy a dog, an important thing to think about is its s 4 ---buy a small dogif your home is small and a bigger one if y 5 is larger. Many people don't know how much to feed their dogs. Dogs eat a 6 anything! They like meat, rice and lots of other things. You canbuy lots of food m 7 for dogs in shops. Don't let your dogs eat too much. Feed it only once aday. Always l 8 water for your dog. It can get thirsty very quickly, especially ins 9 . Remember that dogs need e 10 . You should take it for a walk every day.

根据“be very f 1 to people”来分析,此空应填一个形容词,表明狗对人的态度。

2. children.

3. stranger.

4. size.

”5. yours.

此句完整的说法应是buy a small dog if your home is small and buy a bigger one if your home is larger.

6. almost.

”7. made.

8. leave.

9. summer.

10. exercise.

You should take it for a walk every day. Don't keep your dog inside all day.
