Questions 15 - 20Read the following extract from a book on management and the questions on the opposite page .For each questi on 15 —20,mark one letter (A, B, C or D )on your Answer Sheet for the answer you chooseIn the last few years, managers throughout industry have seen more changes than many of them could have expected to see in their entire working lives having to communicate information which often leads to feelings of insecurity has become a key activity. From being regarded as relatively unimportant in many companies , managementemployee communication has become a central corporate need.Concordia International provides a good example of a company that has adjusted well to the changing needs for communication . since 1995 , Concordia has been turned inside-out and upside-down, to ensure that it is a marketing -led, customer-resp on sive bus in ess, one that looks outwards at customers and competitors, rather than inwards at its own processes and the way things were done in the past. In the last eight years, Concordia has reduced its workforce by more than 80.000 people - or 35% -on a voluntary basis, with further downsizing anticipated. From being an engineering company, Concordia is now remaking itself as a service company. The role of employee communication in such a context is to build people 's self - confidence, topersuade them that, although it is inevitablethat the changes will go ahead, they also bring with them new opportunities for employees. However, this is not an easy task. People tend to beskeptical of these claims and to feel that they are losing touch with the company they have worked for over many years. This is understandable, since many of the old certainties are being swept away , including the core activities of the company they work for. Above all , they have had to face up to the fact that they no longer have a job for life.Research indicates that people respond to this predicament in a variety of ways. The bulkof employees fall into two main categories in terms of their response to the new situation :on the one hand there are the “ pragmatists and on the other “the highly anxious ” the former see theirjob as a means to an end and have a relatively short-term perspective, with strong loyalty to their local term , rather than the company as a whole . the second category, usually themajority, may respond to threatened changes with a feeling of having been let down, and even feel anger at the company for what they see as changing the terms of their employment. The employee communication process needs to be capable of accurately directing its messages at a variety of employee groups and departments within the workforce . this is why middle managers and line managers are so key to communication. They are the people who know about the full rage of concerns among the workforce. The problem in the past was that thiscrucial area was often the responsibility of a separate, relatively isolated unit. Concordia puts responsibility for communication firmly on line managers. All their research points to the sameconclusion :people prefer to get their information face-to-face from their line managers. That is the keyrelationship and where arguments and hearts and minds-are lost. The general rule in company communication is to tell employees as much as you can as soon as you can. If you can't provide details, then at least put the news in context and commit yourself to providing greater detail when it becomes available another rule of company communication is that there must be a fit between what the company is telling its employees and what it is telling its shareholders15:in the last eight years, Concordia hasA made over 80.000 employees reduncdantB completed a period of downsizingC reduced its workforce of 80.000 by 35%D given 35% of departing employees voluntary redundancy16 from Concordia 's point of view, the role of communication is toA win employee support before going ahead with the changesB change the compa ny's core activities.C emphasise the positive aspects of the changesD explain the need for the changes17 what does research show about most employees ' response to change?A they expect it to have a bad effect on the companyB they feel completely powerlessC they become less loyalD they fell they have been treated unfairly18 Concordia ' s communication process mainly relies onA printed communicationB departmental headsC personal communicationD a separate, specialized unit19 According to the writer, what is the guiding ;principle about giving information within an organization?A Never make promises about future developmentsB Give people an overall view at the earliest possible stageC always include plenty of hard informationD Hold back until all the details can be provided20 which of the following would be the most suitable title for the article?A employee attitudes to company communicationB making company communication more effectiveC Researching company commmucationD Making employees feel less powerless15 A 16-20 C D C B B。

Read the article below about the changing role of human resources departments.
The best person for the job
B.Kevin Rayner, Domola
Businesses need to build integration competency centres dedicated to managing the integration effort. It is critical to have an individual in charge to check that the external and internal business operations work together. Although companies often think of outsourcing as a way of getting rid of people and assets, they need to remember that, at the same time, outsourcing involves gaining people. Because there is a new operation being carried out in a different way outside of the home business, this creates a training element.

Saving Water
The world is not only hungry, but also thirsty for water. This may seem strange to you, since nearly 75 % of the earth's surface is covered with water. But about 97% of this huge amount is sea water, or salt water. Man can only drink and use the other 3% -- the fresh water that comes from rivers, lakes, underground, and other sources. And we cannot even use all of that, because some of it is in the form of icebergs and glaciers. Even worse, some of it has been polluted.

Test 3READING 1 hourPART ONEQuestions 1-7●Look at the statements below and the article about pricing on the opposite page ●Which section (A, B, C or D) does each statement (1-7) refer to?●For each statement (1-7), mark one letter (A, B, C or D) on your Answer Sheet.●You will need to use some of these letters more than once.Example:0 the price depending on the product features chosen by the customer1 the failure of a company to set its prices appropriately2 a context that makes it difficult to increase prices3 the consequences of companies trying to conceal their approach to pricing4 the means by which a company ensured precision in the prices it offered5 the fact that companies can learn about the effects of a price reduction6the first sector to price products according to how much customers wereprepared to spend7 the widespread use of rough guidelines to determine pricesGetting the price rightA Chief executives need to pay more attention to pricing, according to RobertoLippi of the Apex Group, a consultancy that offers advice on pricing strategy. He accepts that low inflation figures in many industrialized countries makes raising prices tough, but argues that this should not necessarily deter companies. He gives the example of the airlines, which, with their minimum stay requirements and massive premiums for flexibility, led the way in sorting customers into categories, based on their willingness to pay.B The key to pricing is to avoid alienating customers. As Lippi points out, once abad price has been established, it can be very difficult to turn the situation around. He gives the example of a consumer goods company that went bankrupt largely because it did not price its digital cameras properly. In contrast, he cites the case of a Swiss drug company that introduced software for every sales representative's laptop, enabling them to provide consistent and accurate price quotes. To help staff with this innovation, the company also created a new post of director of pricing strategy.C Many of today's managers have the benefit of modern technology to help themwith pricing. Supermarket chains, for example, can easily track customers'elasticity'—how their buying habits change in response to a price rise or a discount. But although a company can now measure this sort of thing in a more sophisticated way, following basic rules is still the most common way of setting prices. Most bosses still worry more about their costs than the prices they charge; one recent survey found that they spend as little as 2% of their time on pricing.D One popular approach to pricing is illustrated by the car companies that chargeextra for product add-ons such as electric windows, instead of offering them as part of the standard price. Although many customers are prepared to pay extra, Lippi recommends that companies make sure that price differences reflect real differences in the product, either in quality or in the extra service on offer. The worst approach is to try to keep the pricing structure secret from customers.Nowadays, that is more likely to lead to lost contracts than large profits.【答案与解析】1.

______年______月______日

Vicatoria:
3,unirider.
