The Isles of Greece
The excerpt is from Canto three of Dun Juan which in sung by a Greek singer at the wedding of Don Juan and Haidee, in the early 19th century Greece was under the rule of the Turks,By contrasting the freedom of ancient Greece and the present enslavement the poet appealed people to stuggle for liberty.

Don Juan
It is Byron’s masterpiece and it was written in the years from 1818 to 1823,the poem reveals fully the poet’s attacks on social injustice and political intrigue,or moral degeneracy and personal vices,as well as his philosophical reflections on his own life on abstraction

Canto:(篇章)A section or division of a long poem,in English poetry,Alexander Pope’s The Rape of the Lock and Lord Byron’s Don Juan are divided into cantos . Lyric:lyric is a poem,usually a short one,which express a speaker’s personal thought and feelings,the elegy,ode and sonnet are all forms of the lyric.
