The Isles of Greece
The excerpt is from Canto three of Dun Juan which in sung by a Greek singer at the wedding of Don Juan and Haidee， in the early 19th century Greece was under the rule of the Turks，By contrasting the freedom of ancient Greece and the present enslavement the poet appealed people to stuggle for liberty.
For oft when my couch I lie In vacant or in pensive mood They flash upon that inward eye Which is bliss of solitude And then my heart with pleasure fills And dance with the daffodils
Don Juan
It is Byron’s masterpiece and it was written in the years from 1818 to 1823，the poem reveals fully the poet’s attacks on social injustice and political intrigue，or moral degeneracy and personal vices，as well as his philosophical reflections on his own life on abstraction
Continuous as the stars that shine And twinkle on the Milky way They stretched in never-ending line Along the margin of a bay Ten thousand saw I at a glance Tossing their heads in sprightly dance

Byron was born of noble blood both on paternal and maternal lines，He inherited the title of baron when he was ten years old upon the death of his great-uncle，he was sent to study at Harrow and later at Cambridge in 1807 while a student at Cambridge he showed talent in verse writing by publishing a collection of The Edinburgh Review.

Canto：(篇章)A section or division of a long poem，in English poetry，Alexander Pope’s The Rape of the Lock and Lord Byron’s Don Juan are divided into cantos . Lyric：lyric is a poem，usually a short one，which express a speaker’s personal thought and feelings，the elegy，ode and sonnet are all forms of the lyric.
