(3)Passage 3Many cultural anthropologists have come to reject the scientific framework of empiricism that dominated the field until the 1970s and now regard all scientific knowledge as socially constructed. They argue that information about cultures during the empiricist era typically came from anthropologists who brought with them a prepackaged set of conscious and unconscious biases. Cultural anthropology, according to the post-1970s critique, is unavoidably subjective, and the anthropologist should be explicit in acknowledging that fact. Anthropology should stop striving to build a better database about cultural behavior and should turn to developing a more humanistic interpretation of cultures. The new framework holds that it may be more enlightening to investigate the biases of earlier texts than to continue with empirical methodologies.1. The author implies which of the following about most cultural anthropologists working prior to the 1970s?A. They argued that scientific knowledge was socially constructed.B. They were explicit in acknowledging the biases inherent in scientific investigation.C. They regarded scientific knowledge as consisting of empirical truths.D. They shared the same conscious and unconscious biases.E. They acknowledged the need for a new scientific framework.2. According to the passage, “many cultural anthropologists”today would agree that anthropologists shouldA. build a better, less subjective database about cultural behaviorB. strive to improve the empirical methodologies used until the 1970sC. reject the notion that scientific knowledge is socially constructedD. turn to examining older anthropological texts forunacknowledged biasesE. integrate humanistic interpretations with empirical methodologies答案:C D。

Sure, you'd like to write an English essay for the 2016 second volume English exam. Here's a sample essay:Title: The Impact of Technology on Modern Society。
In the fast-paced world of the 21st century, technology has become an integral part of our daily lives, profoundly shaping the way we communicate, work, and interact with the world around us. This essay explores the multifaceted impact of technology on modern society, encompassing both its benefits and drawbacks. To begin with, one of the most significant benefits of technology is its role in facilitating communication. With the advent of smartphones, social media, and instant messaging apps, individuals can now connect with others instantaneously regardless of geographical distance. This has led to a more interconnected global community, fostering cross-cultural understanding and collaboration.Furthermore, technology has revolutionized the way we work and conduct business. The rise of automation and digitalization has streamlined processes, increased efficiency, and opened up new avenues for innovation. From remote work opportunities to e-commerce platforms, technology has democratized access to employment and entrepreneurship, empowering individuals to pursue their professional aspirations. Moreover, technology has transformed the field of education, making learning more accessible and personalized. Online courses, educational apps, and interactivemultimedia resources have expanded the reach of education beyond traditional classrooms, allowing learners to acquire new skills and knowledge at their own pace and convenience. This democratization of education has the potential to narrow the gap between privileged and marginalized communities, fostering social mobility and economic development. However, alongside these benefits, technology alsoposes significant challenges and risks to society. One of the most pressing concerns is the erosion of privacy and data security in an increasingly digitized world. From data breaches to surveillance technologies, individuals are vulnerable to exploitation and manipulation, raisingethical and legal questions about the protection of personal information and digital rights. Moreover, the rapid pace of technological advancement has led to job displacement and economic inequality. Automation and artificial intelligence threaten to disrupt traditional industries and livelihoods, exacerbating unemployment and widening the gap between the affluent and the disenfranchised. As such, there is a pressing need for policies and initiatives aimed at retraining workers, fostering inclusive growth, and mitigating the negative consequences of technological disruption. In conclusion, technology has irrevocably transformed modern society, reshaping the way we communicate, work, and learn. While it offers unprecedented opportunities for connectivity, efficiency, and innovation, it also presentsformidable challenges in terms of privacy, inequality, and job displacement. As we navigate the complexities of the digital age, it is essential to strike a balance between harnessing the benefits of technology and mitigating its unintended consequences, ensuring a more equitable and sustainable future for all.。

After reading the passage, choose the answer to the question that most effectively improves the quality of writing in the passage or that makes the passage conform to the conventions of standard written English. Sometimes the question will include a "NO CHANGE" option. Choose that option if you think the best choice is to leave the relevant portion of the passage as it is.To determine whether chimpanzees are more likely to delay gratification for a cooked food reward than they are for a raw food reward, cognition researchers Felix Warneken and Alexandra Rosati conducted an experiment comparing chimpanzees’ decisions in two situations: a "raw-delay" condition and a "cooked-delay" condition. In the raw-delay condition, Warneken and Rosati offered the chimpanzees a choice between receiving a piece of raw food immediately and waiting for one minute to receive three pieces of raw food; the chimpanzees chose the larger, delayed reward 60 percent of the time. In the cooked-delay condition, in which the chimpanzees could receive one piece of raw food immediately or wait one minute for three pieces of cooked food, they chose the larger, delayed reward approximately 85 percent of the time.(A) NO CHANGE(B) of whether(C) either(D) for答案:A解析:Choice A is the best answer because in this context, the phrasing "a choice between receiving X and (waiting for) Y" is consistent with the conventions of standard written English.
