Journal of Lecture of The Asian American Identity
Last week I took a lecture which is about the Asian-American in the United Stated. In my opinion, this is very important to someone like us who is foreigner student there. This is very useful in our rest of life. This lecture is including the situation that Asian-American met in the process of they grow up. In addition is the problem between the Asian-American and their parents or their motherland’s culture.
First of all I want to talk about something that I got from Felix’s presentation. The thing which most impressing is that he told us most of Asian-Americans cannot find the sense of belonging. In our Chinese opinion that they cannot speak Chinese and do not understand our traditional culture. In another way to say, Asian-Americans have the Asian’s masks which are different from Americans. Even though, they burn there and grow up in this culture, there still have some differences. When they met this kind of situation, it is seems like to live in the crack. Furthermore, the Felix mentioned why there have gap between Asian-American and their motherland the reason is they never trying to know their own history and their traditional culture. Maybe some Asian-American cannot speak their parent’s language. This is the most
impressing thing that I got from this lecture, and I think this is close to us who are Asian international students.
In my own view, I agree with the Felix’s opinion that is there have too many problems to Asian-American need to deal with and they need to know their own history. I think the parents of these Asian-Americans need to take the responsibilities; although, they are immigrants and they were very busy to took part in a new environment, but I am very curious why the immigrants do not teach their children anything about their traditional culture and language. If I am a father of Asian-American, I must teach my child to learn all the things about our motherland, because wherever we go we still are Chinese that is we cannot change. So I think Felix mention all the Asian-Americans needs to learn something about their motherland that is very useful. This is all my opinion about this lecture and why I agree with the speaker.。
