Module 1课时达标训练(一)阅读理解AIn America, when the eighth graders leave the middle school, they are often worried about moving to the high school. It is a hard time for them, but it can be an exciting one as well. To make it easier, students need to get familiar with their school.Even though they've done this already in the middle school, it's still important to find where their classrooms are. Most schools take students to the high school for a visit at the end of their eighth grade year. And, most schools also have a freshman (新生) speech for parents and students before the first year begins. Sometimes the main office will give away a map of the school. This can help students and parents to find different places of the school. One way to know your high school more and make new friends is to join a club or play a sport. Schools often offer chances to join different clubs and sports. Fall activities begin in August before the first day of school. If you are not interested in sports, there are clubs for any interest, such as drama, dance, chess, photography, community (社区) service, etc. These clubs allow students from different grades. By joining an activity, students can find new friendships, not to mention improving their chances in future college applications (申请). The school office will have a list of activities offered at the school and information on how to join them. What's more, to have a great start to a high school year, students can write down some of their worries, and ask for help from teachers and school workers.1.According to the text, most students feel ________ when entering the high school.A.happy B.nervousC.lonely D.disappointed2.Which of the following is TRUE about the school clubs?A.There are fewer students from higher grades in the school clubs.B.The school clubs in high school only welcome sports fans.C.Summer activities begin before school starts.D.The school office can help new students join school clubs.3.When do many schools take students to visit their new high school?A.Before the eighth grade year starts.B.Right after the high school year starts.C.At the beginning of the new term in the high school.D.At the end of their eighth grade year.4.What is the purpose of this text?A.To tell the new students how to learn in high school.B.To introduce new schools.C.To give the teachers some advice.D.To give advice to new high school students.BWelcome to one of the largest collections of footwear (鞋类) in the world that will make you green with envy. Here at the Footwear Museum you can see exhibits (展品) from all over the world. You can find out about shoes worn by everyone from the Ancient Egyptians to pop stars.5.Where would you find a famous singer's shoes?A.Room 1.B.Room 2.C.Room 3. D.The Footwear Library.6.All exhibits in each room ________.A.share the same themeB.have the same shapeC.are made of the same materialD.belong to the same social class7.Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?A.The oldest exhibits in Room 1 were made in the 1950s.B.Room 2 is the most visited place in the museum.C.Room 3 has a richer variety of exhibits than the other two.D.Researchers come to the Footwear Library for information.8.The purpose of the text is to get more people to ________.A.do research B.design shoesC.visit the museum D.follow celebritiesCWhile most high school students spend most of their time worrying about who likes who, and different relationships between their classmates, I choose to focus on my school lessons and sports. When I was young, my mother encouraged me to develop and keep friendship with boys in order to build strong relationships. But she told me not to risk a good friendship with a boy withthe title of boyfriend. It's indeed a wise choice to stay friends with those of the opposite sex (异性). In my opinion, even though some high school relationships might continue after graduation, the probability of them lasting much longer is so slim (微小的) that there really is not a point to it.Firstly you have to think about such a question — whether it is possible to hurt both of you, or even hurt both of your future husbands or wives. My second point is that you still can date (约会) if you hope marriage could possibly follow. Except this, there really is not any other reason for dating. Some students desire relationships for a chance to be romantic. While these are nice to have, there are many more important things at this point in our lives. The titles of boyfriend and girlfriend put too much stress (重点) on a relationship between high school students. Just staying as common friends may be the best choice for us. I strongly advise we should deal with it in a proper way and follow our teachers' advice if necessary.9.The author writes this passage probably for ________ to read.A.high school studentsB.school teachersC.parents and teachersD.married couples10.Between sexes, the relationship of being good friends might be ________ than that of being boy/girlfriends.A.weaker B.saferC.slimmer D.stronger11.How does the writer like the idea of dating among the students?A.Dating is a nice chance for students to be romantic.B.Studying is far more important than dating in school.C.In high school dating can surely lead to future marriage.D.Dating in high school is sure to hurt your future family.12.The underlined word “it”in the last paragraph might refer to ________.A.the title of boyfriend or girlfriend at schoolB.advice given by both teachers and parentsC.the pressure from school lessons and sportsD.the relationship between students of opposite sexes课时达标训练(一)语篇解读:新入学的高中生该怎样顺利开始高中的学习生活,请看作者提出的建议。

Well, I'm happy to tell you what I know. When I started school here, it had already been a week since the schoo1 opened. At this school, freshmen usually go on a trip for about three days at the beginning of school. Unfortunately I missed that wonderful trip, which would have been the best time to get to know my classmates.I was really sad.I wished I'd known about it earlier.Despite the disappointment, however, I gradually adapted to my new life and schoo1.There is a space in the basement of the teaching building where students chat and meet each other. As we do not always have the same classrooms and classmates, the school wants us to get toknow each other there.Students usually come to school early, sit in that space and have fun.Around the space, there are many lockers for students to leave their books in, so that students do not have to carry a heavy schoolbag everywhere. It really surprises me that we have almost no textbooks. We only have textbooks for World History and Algebra and they are big and heavy, like bricks. For other classes, we only need binders (活页夹) with paper in them.Without textbooks, students learn things freely and actively. For example, my humanities teacher just teaches us what is in her mind at the time.We never know what we will learn.Another difference between American schools and Chinese schools is that American schools care about students' morality more than their academic studies. For example, if you do not finish your homework, you will just be asked to do it later, but if you cheat or lie, you will get a warning or even be kicked out.I think that most students here are good at schoolwork as well, but compared to Chinese students, they can make learning a more joyful experience.I think we should take the good points from our two different kinds of education to perfect our approach to studying.1.What was the writer sad for?A.He was late for school.B.He missed the trip at the beginning of school.C.He didn't know anyone.D.American students looked down upon him.2.Why do students go to the basement of the teaching building?A.To attend class.B.To share a classroom.C.To have fun.D.To meet teachers.3.According to the passage, in American high schools, ________.A.you are likely to be kicked out if you cheatB.you'll be punished if you do not finish your homeworkC.students are better at school work than Chinese studentsD.students care much about the grades they getBFood Festivals Around the WorldStilton Cheese RollingMay Day is a traditional day for celebrations, but the 2,000 English villagers of Stilton must be the only people in the world who include cheese rolling in their annual plans. 话题背景抢先读As a new teacher, I was sent on my first practical class at a middle school. During my class, I found something terrible in the school and realized it could be a place lacking justice and kindness among the students.Jess was an 8th grade student who always respected her classmates though lack of respect in return. Kids constantly teased her behind her back. Tyson, a 12th grade student, was handsome and always surrounded by his classmates. When the school talent show came around, Jess asked to perform a solo act. I hesitated to allow her to take the stage, fearing that she might face challenges. However, I knew it would be unfair to say no, so her name was onto the list of performers. The day of the show, the whole school gathered in the hall. The acts began and I was pleasantly surprised when each performance was greeted with cheers and praise. Then it was Jess' duty. The music started and, to my horror, she missed the first line of the song. She became nervous, and forgot her lines. As she struggled through the song, kids whispered and laughed. Jess looked very embarrassed and was about to give up when the most amazing thing happened. The sound of somebody clapping with the beat of the song began to rise above the crowd. I lookedaround to see who it was. It was Tyson. He was clapping loudly, urging his friends to join in. Slowly, the claps spread from Tyson's group to the rest of the students, then throughout the hall. Soon the encouragement made Jess find herself. As we do not always have the same classrooms and classmates, the school wants us to get to knoweach other there.Students usually come to school early, sit in that space and have fun.Around the space, there are many lockers for students to leave their books in, so that students do not have to carry a heavy schoolbag everywhere. ANow many young people are traveling around the world on their own, not because they have no one to travel with, but because they prefer to go alone.Kristina Wegscheider from California first traveled alone when she was at college and believes that it is something everyone should do at least once in their life. “It opens up your mind to new things and pushes you out of your comfortable zone.” Wegscheider has visited 46 countries covering all seven continents. In foreign countries, with no one to help you read a map, look after you if you get ill, or lend you money if your wallet is stolen, it is challenging. This is what drives young people to travel alone. It is seen as character building and a chance to prove that they can make it on their own.Chris Richardson decided to leave his sales job in Australia to go traveling last year. He set up a website, The Aussie Nomad, to document his adventures. He said he wished he had traveled alone earlier. “The people you meet, the places you visit, or the things you do, everything is up to you and it forces you to grow as a person,” said the 30year old man. Richardson describes traveling alone like “a shot in the arm”,which “ makes you a more confident person that is ready to deal with anything.” He said, “The feeling of having conquered something on my own is a major part of what drives me each day when I'm dealing with adifficult task.”“I walk around with my head up because I know deep down inside that nothing is impossible if you try.”The great 19th century explorer John Muir once said, “Only by going alone in silence can one truly get into the heart of the wilderness.”1.Which of the following will Kristina Wegscheider agree with?A.Traveling alone is a necessary experience for everyone.B.It is more meaningful to travel in foreign countries.C.It is comfortable to travel around without a friend.D.Traveling abroad helps people to find new things.2.Traveling alone is challenging because ________.A.you have to make things on your ownB.it is hard for you to prove yourself to othersC.you can only depend on yourself whatever happensD.it will finally build your character3.What can we infer about Chris Richardson?A.He started traveling alone at an early age.B.He was once shot in the arm.C.He used to work as a salesman.D.His website inspires others a lot.4.What is the best title for the passage?A.Travel AbroadB.Travel UnaccompaniedC.Travel LightD.Travel Wide and FarBOne is not born able to speak a language. One is born able to make a noise. I have heard babies cry in America and in China. I can't tell any difference. But when I hear someone from America speak English and hear someone speak Chinese, I can tell you there are a lot of differences.I_believe_a_common_(普遍的)_problem_with_Chinese_students'_learning_English_is_that_they_were _not_taught_to_think_in_English. They have an idea spoken in English and want to translate the idea into Chinese, then they think in Chinese of the proper reply and translate it into English. After a long period of speaking the language, one begins to think in the foreign language naturally. You will learn faster if you begin to think in English at the very beginning of your study. Many students ask me: What can I do to improve my spoken English? My reply is: The more English you speak, the better English you will speak. There are many things you can do to improve your spoken English. In America, when the eighth graders leave the middle school, they are often worried about moving to the high school. It is a hard time for them, but it can be an exciting one as well. To make it easier, students need to get familiar with their school.
Even though they've done this already in the middle school, it's still important to find where their classrooms are.
By joining an activity, students can find new friendships, not to mention improving their chances in future college
applications (申请). The school office will have a list of activities offered at the school and information on how to join them.
What's more, to have a great start to a high school year, students can write down some of their worries, and ask for help from teachers and school workers.
