河南省新乡县高级中学2020-2021学年高一英语下学期第二次月考试题

河南省新乡县高级中学2020-2021学年高一英语下学期第二次月考试题第一部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AHere are 5 actions you can take to make a difference to our environment1. Use fewer napkins. The next time you’re eating, don’t take a bunch of napkins when you need only one. If every American used an average of one less napkin every day, it would prevent the use of more than a billion pounds of napkins — enough to fill the Empire State Building —from ending up in landfills. Use fewer napkins, and you’ll cut down on waste.2. Think before flushing.Don’t flush wastefully. By avoiding just one flush a day, you could save about 4.5 gallons of water. That’s as much water as the average person in Africa uses to bathe, drink, clean, and cook for an entire day.3. Avoid wasting food.Eat Thanksgiving Leftover-Don’t let them spoil. If every US household reduced food waste by the weight of.one slice of bread, the money saved would be enough to pay for three meals a day for a year for every homeless child in the U.S.4. Kick off the shoesLeave your shoes at the door when you come into your home. Unwanted fertilizers, lead, and poisonous cleaners found on outdoor surfaces can hitcha ride on your shoes and track through your house.5. Save energyWhen you go out, try to use public transport. If you close the bathroom door when you take a bath, you will keep the room warmer, your bath water’s heat stays trapped in the bathroom. The water also stays hotter and longer, so you don’t need to add more hot water. Save energy: Close the door.1. Suppose you and your parents all reduce one flush a day, how much water will be saved?A. About 9 gallons of water.B. About 14 gallons of water.C. About 16 gallons of water.D. About 11 gallons of water.2. What do the underlined words “hitch a ride” mean in the passage?A. Be stuck.B. Ride on you.C. Follow you.D. Visit you.3. What’s the main idea of this passage?A. Save energy can help to save money.B. Wasting is shameful.C. One can use some ways to protect the environment.D. You may make a bigger difference than others.BWe had a military training for a whole week in late August after stepping into our new senior high school. The military coaches were all strict with us. Frankly speaking, we all felt very tired, and even had pains in our legs. However, we all persisted in practising, and felt satisfied with ourselves eventually. In the morning we arrived at the playground in lines on time. Then you could hear our military coaches shout at the top of their voices“Stand at attention”, “Stand at ease”,“Tum left”,“March”,“Run…”, All the students were practicing carefully. Exhausted as we were, none of us asked to have a rest, none of us complained, none of us wanted to drop out. Under the blazing sun, despite high temperature and thirst, we stood still for an hour with sweat dripping down from our faces all the time. In the moonlight, we played games heartily, bursting into laughter now and then. On the grass, divided into two groups, we competed to sing encouraging military songs in high spirits one after another. At the meeting, hearing their moving speech, we felt regretful for wasting time before. At that time we realized we should have been grateful to our parents and teachers, with tears in our eyes. And we all made up our minds to study harder. On the afternoon of the last day, our principal sang high praise for our behaviour, and encouraged us to keep this persistent spirit in future.Though this military training is a tough experience, we challenged ourselves and overcame those difficulties. We felt proud from the bottom of our hearts. There is no doubt that this military training has left a deep and durable impression on me, on all my classmates.4. How does the author like this military training?A. Tiring and disappointing.B. Enjoyable and comfortable.C. Meaningful and fruitful.D. Surprising and exciting.5. What does the writer mainly describe in Paragraph 2?A. They had some difficulties in practicing.B. They always practiced without difficulty.C. Persuade him or her to study hard.B. Advise him or her to run regularly on the playground with some militarycoaches.C. Try to make the principal praise him or her.D. Encourage him or her to take military training seriously, and finish itsuccessfully.7. What may be the best title of this passage?A. Some Strict CoachesB. A Far-reaching ExperienceC. Persistence Is ImportantD. A Difficult PeriodCPengci (碰瓷) has been a disgusting matter for a long time. When driving on a road, if you see an old man or woman walking by the road, you may be afraid that he or she will hit your car on purpose, and then ask you for much money. Even worse, it has been reported that a pupil saw an old woman fall onto the ground, so he walked over to help her. But she grabbed him and said she was pushed down by him. Then she tried to extort much money from the pupil’s parents. What a shame! How to deal with it? Our authorities have taken aim at pengci. On October 14, three top judicial (司法的) organs issued(发布)a guideline to clarify(解释)the application of the law in extortion cases involving deliberately fabricated (捏造的) accidents or similar happenings. The guideline was issued by the Ministry of Public Security, the Supreme People’s Court and the Supreme People’s Procuratorate. For the first time, auth orities have defined(明确;界定)the pengci trick, in which people pretend they have been harmed by another party and then ask that party for money or property as compensation(赔偿).The guideline stipulates (规定) punishment for the two main types of pengci-fraud and extortion. Criminals who intentionally or negligently cause harm to others while carrying out pengci tricks may be charged with the crimes of intentional homicide, intentional injury, negligently (疏忽地) causing others’ death or causing serious injury to others, the guideline said. The guideline also stipulates that whoever deliberately causes a traffic accident and blackmails the victim, which meets the relating provisions (条款) of the Criminal Law, shall be punished as the crime of extortion by blackmail.According to this guideline, we can avoid being extorted by ill persons and warm-hearted persons can help those who really need help.8. What does the underlined word“extort”in Paragraph 1 refer to?A. Threaten to get something illegally.B. Earn something by working.C. Ask somebody for something.D. Give something for free9. Why was the guideline issued?A. To protect old men and women.B. To punish criminals seriously.C. To help students do good deeds.D. To clarify the application of the law in extortion cases.10. Which of the following sentences is right?A. All the criminals referred to in this passage shall be charged.B. The guideline stipulates one who causes a traffic accident by chanceshall be punished.C. Those who play pengci tricks usually pretend to have been harmed.D. If a man plays pengci tricks, he may be very poor.11. If you notice a person fall onto the ground in future, what will you do?A. Help cautiously when necessary.B. Help without hesitation.C. Look on nearby.D. Call the police quickly.DWe all should let the sunshine in as much as possible not just because it makes us feel good. Exposure to sunlight produces vitamin D in our skin. This is why we call vitamin D the “sunshine vitamin”.Vitamin D is good for everybody. In fact, research shows this “sunshine vitamin” could help women with breast cancer live longer.Breast cancer patients who have high blood levels of vitamin D have a better prognosis(预后) than women who don’t. A prognosis is how quickly a doctor expects a patient to recover or how long a doctor expects a patient to live. Researchers found that these women had less aggressive cancers. They werealso 30 percent less likely to die from the cancer or to get it again.Researcher Song Yao led the study for the Roswell Park Cancer Institute. He said the study showed that high vitamin D levels improved the patients’ prognosis no matter what type or how advanced their cancer was.Besides fighting breast cancer, vitamin D helps the body in other ways. Most importantly, vitamin D controls how the body absorbs calcium(钙). It also makes sure the body’s immune(免疫的)system works normally.Several studies show that vitamin D also strengthens the immune system and helps the body fight disease. Vitamin D may help reduce your risk of developing heart disease, according to a 2008 study published in the journal Circulation. And it may also help protect you against getting the flu. Other studies have shown that vitamin D might help people suffering from depression.Factors in the environment may limit our exposure to sunlight and, therefore, vitamin D. These factors include pollution, using too much sunscreen, spending too much time inside and living in areas with little sunlight. So if you can’t get enough sunshine, eat foods that are rich in vitamin D: egg yolks, cheese and fatty fish such as salmon, sardines, tuna or mackerel. How much vitamin D you need is a much-debated topic. The best way to know if you need more vitamin D is to get tested by a doctor.12. Which of the following is TRUE for the women with high blood levels of vitaminD according to the research?A. They can recover from cancer earlier.B. They may never get cancer again.C. They may have less aggressive breast cancers.D. They may live longer with it than women without.13. The benefits of vitamin D are not ________.A. strengthening the immune systemB. promoting the absorption of calciumC.killing cancer cellsD. protecting against getting the flu14. What can people do to get more vitamin D?A. Eat more food and do more exercise.B. Get exposure to more sunlight and eat foods rich in it.C. Drink more water and eat more foods rich in it.D. Eat more food and keep positive.15. How does the author support the theme of the passage?A. By providing research results.B. By stating arguments.C. By explaining statistical data.D. By giving examples.第二节(共5小题;每题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

A full moon also affects people’s sleep more or less, reports a Swiss team of scientists. Even people who sleep in a lab without windows could reduce their sleeping time a little once a month. To test the moon’s influence, 33 adults of both sexes and ages of many kinds spent several nights in a sleep lab. As they slept, researchers recorded their brain activity, eye movements and hormone levels (荷尔蒙水平). On nights closer to a full moon, the sleepers took an average of five minutes longer to fall asleep, and slept for 20 minutes less. In addition, brain activity fell by 30 percent during the sleep. And hormone levels that help control sleep cycles went down. On these nights, the sleepers complained they couldn’t sleep well even though they didn’t know the moon’s cycle. On the bright side, no sleeper turned into a werewolf. The Swiss team doesn’t know how the moon affects sleep. The gravity (重力) of the moon causes ocean tides(潮汐)to rise and fall. But that force is too weak to affect sleep, Gajochen says.He believed some body’s biological clock may be affected by the moon cycles. There may be another reason, says David Dinges. This sleep researcher at the University Of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia says that the body clock is very sensitive to light at night. Those sleepers could have been affected by having too much moonlight before arriving at the lab.4.The writer mentioned “werewolves” in the first paragraph to ________.A. show t here are the moon’s cyclesB. attract people’s attention to the reportC. introduce a creature to readersD. ask people not to sleep alone in the lab5.What happened to the sleepers during the experiment on a full moon?A. Altogether, two thirds of older people had more memories of playing outdoors compared to just over half of the younger generation. The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) carried out the study at the start of the school term to stress the growing worry that children are not getting outdoors enough. The study has found that 82 percent of people think that schools should provide more outdoor education and most believe nature is still important to children today.Dr. Mike Clarke, head of the RSPB, said children who are usually kept indoors are easier to get "nature deficit disorder". He said public money should be used to take children on day trips to nature and to build wildlife gardens, especially in poor areas."To many people, it would seem clear and unquestionable that an important part of childhood is exploring the world around you. Unfortunately, this is far from the fact and the children are having less time and fewer chances to get close to nature," he said."The RSPB has more than a 40-year history in getting children outdoors and is still continuing to play our role. We now need the government and the schools to realize that they should play the most important role in making it possible for all the children to experience, enjoy and benefit from the outdoor environment."8.Compared with the current generation, the older generation had ________.A. more homework and exercises when they were childrenB. more memories of wonderful life in the countrysideC. fewer memories of taking part in outdoor activitiesD. fewer chances of going on a visit to the big cities9.The RSPB carried out the study in order to tell people to ________.A. spend more time with their kidsB. care more about the kids' growthC. let their kids get more outdoor activitiesD. order the schools to provide outdoor education10.According to the passage, "nature deficit disorder" often happens to ________.A. children who often stay indoorsB. children who often go outdoorsC. all the younger generationD. all the older generation11.We can learn from Dr. Clarke's words in the last paragraph that ________.A. all the children can’t get close to nature and aren’t healthy any longerB. outdoor activities are the most important for the current generationC. the RSPB is more important than the government and schools in getting kids outdoorsD. the RSPB plays an important role in getting kids outdoors all the time【D】Could your cellphone give you cancer? Whether it could or not, some people are worrying about the possibility that phones, power lines and Wi-Fi could be responsible for a range of illnesses, from rashes to brain tumors. Some say there is evidence to support the growing anxieties. David Carpenter, a professor of environmental health sciences at the university at Albany, in New York, thinks there’s a greater than 95 percent chance that power lines can cause childhood leukemia (白血病). Also there’s a greater than 90 percent chance that cellphones can cause brain tumors. “It’s apparent now that there’s a real risk,” said Carpenter. But others believe these concerns are unjustified. Dr. Martha Linet, the head of radiation epidemiology (流行病学) at the US National Cancer Institute, has looked at the same research as Carpenter but has reached a different conclusion. “I don’t support warning labels for cellphones,” said Linet. “We don’t have the evidence that there’s much danger.”Studies so far suggest a weak connection between EMFs (电磁场) and illness— so weak that it might not exist at all. A multinational investigation of cellphones and brain cancer, in 13 countries outside the US, has been underway fo r several years. ASharon, Aged 22The most important thing to keep in mind when going into high school is to be yourself. Besides, I don’t know what your middle school was like, but high school teachers will not care about things such as how much homework you already have in one night. It’s best to just learn to deal with things and manage your time wisely so you can achieve everything you need to. Frank, Aged 21I think almost every kid feels both nervous and excited before their first day. You will probably love it. I know I did. You should join in some sports or activities that will make your high school experience more enjoyable. Good luck!David, Aged 19I’m not going to lie. The first day is kind of frightening. But you’ll get used to it. Don’t be afraid of anyone; upperclassmen will pick on you more if you let them know you’re afraid. Just take it easy. Making some friends and staying with them will greatly help you get used to high school q uickly. After the first week it’s really not bad at all. Don’t worry.Eddie ,Aged 20When I started high school I was really nervous too, especially since I had been homeschooled all through middle school and didn’t really know anyone. I suppose the best a dvice would be to just relax. The first couple of days can be a little bit hard, but things will become easier before you know it.1. What can we infer from Sharon’s words about high school?A. Teachers are quite strict.B. Students often stay up at nightC. Teachers provide little care for students.D. Students should make good use of their time.2. Who mentions the importance of friends?A. DavidB. FrankC. SharonD. Eddie3. How did Eddie feel on his first day of high school?A. ExcitedB. WorriedC. BoredD. RelaxedBIt's school time again! You're probably feeling excited and maybe a little sad that summer isover. Some kids feel nervous or a little frightened on the first day of school because of all the new things: new teachers, new friends, and even a new school. Luckily, these "new" worries only stick around for a little while. Let's find out more about going to a new school. Most teachers kick off the new school year by introducing themselves and talking about all the stuff you'll be doing that year. Some teachers give students a chance to tell something about themselves to the rest of the class, too. When teachers do the talking on the first day, they often read classroom rules and school rules to you so you'll know what's allowed and what's not. Please pay close attention. You might already know a lot of people in your class on the first day, but it's a great day to make a new friend, so try to say hello to kids you know and new ones that you don't know. Make the first move and you'll be glad you did, and so will your new friends!Seeing friends you haven't seen for some time can make the first day a good one. You can make the day feel special by wearing clothes that you really like. Maybe you got a great T-shirt on one of your vacations, or a pair of sneakers. It also can make you feel good to be prepared and have all the things you need, such as pencils, folders, and whatever else you'll need. But make sure that you pack them the night before in case you don't have time in the morning.4. What does the underlined phrase "kick off" in the second paragraph probably mean?A Start. B. Study. C. Find. D. Teach.5. What does the last paragraph mainly tell us about?A. What to know about a new school.B. How to prepare for a new school.C. What to do on your first day of school.D. How to spend your first day of school.6. According to the passage, you usually do the following things on the first day of school except _________.A. introduce yourselfB. learn about the school rulesC. make new friendsD. go over your new lessons7. If you happen to see an old friend on the first day of school, what will you feel from the passage we know?A. Nervous.B. Sad.C. Happy.D. Worried.CTo most of us,school means classes, teachers, schedules, grades, and tests. But for the children at Sudbury Valley School in Massachusetts, school is very different.Firstly, there are no lessons. All the children, aged between 4 and 19,do whatever they want. There are no teachers—only “staff members”.The idea behind this is that you do not need to make children learn, because children want to learn anyway.“You do not need to say to a three year-old,‘Go explore your environment.'You can't stop them!” says Daniel Greenberg,a founder of the school.“But if you make children do what you want all day, they will lose all tastefor learning.”At Sudbury Valley School, you will permit children to talk, read, paint, cook, work on computers, study French, play the piano, climb trees or just run around. Two boys spent three years just fishing! The other way that Sudbury Valley School is different is that the children can decide therules.Every week, there is a school meeting where both children and staff have one vote each—even the four-year-olds.They decide the school rules, how to spend the school budget, and even which staff they want and do not want any more. When the school first opened in 1968,people said it would never work. But today, the school has 200 students, and 80%of its students go on to college. Even the two boys who went fishing all the time have successful careers today. One of them is a musician and the other is a computer scientist.8. What is the main topic of the article?A. An unusual school.B. Children's hobbies.C. A school without rules.D. Education in the US.9. What does the school believe?A. Teachers cannot teach children Well.B. Children learn best when they do what they want to do.C. Learning is for adults—children should only play.D. Children should only learn about one thing at a time.10. What does Daniel Greenberg say about three--year--olds?A. They love learning.B. They are very naughty.C. They want to be outside all the time.D. They are too young to learn anything.11. Who has the most power in the school meetings?A. The older children have more power than the younger children.B. A child has more power than an adult.C. The younger children have more power than the older children.D. Everybody has equal power.DHow often do you exercise? A new study found that most kids aged 12 to 15 weren't getting enough physical activity. The results were based on about 800 kids. As part of the study, the kids tracked and reported on their own activity levels, and took physical exams.U. S. fitness guidelines suggest an hour or more of physical activity every day. According to the study, only 1in 4 U.S. kids get enough physical activity."It's certainly worrying to see that our kids have such a limited amount of physical activityeach day,” said Dr. Stephen Pont. He is an expert on children's health.Few kids in the study met the guidelines on physical activity that raises the heart rate and makes people breathe harder. Overall, about 25% said they got an hour of that kind of exercise every day. Kids also reported on which activities they did most often outside of school gym class--basketball for boys and running for girls. The study found that fat teenagers were less active than normal-weight girls and boys. Fat girls were slightly less active than normal-weight girls, but levels were similar among overweight and normal-weight boys. The study also said that the percent of fat children aged 2 to 19 was 17%, or about 12.5 million kids."There's always room for improvement," said Tala Fakhouri, who was the leader of the study. She also said the results provide useful information to help with fitness campaigns such as Let's Move, which was initiated by Michelle Obama in 2010. To inspire kids to eat right and get in shape, Michelle visits schools and holds exercise events. She also calls on schools to offer regular gym classes. The study also found kids who get physical education at school may get better grades.12. What is the result of the new study?A. 800 kids don't get enough physical activity.B. Most U.S. kids don't get enough exercise.C. Kids should get physical activity every day.D. It's important to take physical exams.13. Which of the following sports do girls like best?A. Swimming.B. Basketball.C. Running.D. Gym.14 What's the purpose of the campaign Let's Move?A. 河南省新乡县高级中学中考英语 21 Weather and Men阅读理解专项训练 人教新目标版

Weather and MenEverybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it. It is true. People usually begin their talks with "Isn't it a nice day?" "Do you think it will rain?" It's going to rain tomorrow." Another man will say, "No, it's going to be fine tomorrow."People often look for the weather they want. When a farmer needs water, he looks for something to tell him it's going to rain; he won't believe anything else. When friends have a travel, they are sure the weather is goint to clear up very quickly.Almost everyone listens to what the weather man says. But he doesn't alwaystell us what we want, and once in a while he makes a mistake. Still, he probably comes closer to being correct than anyone else.##1. 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解Every year migratory(迁徙的) bats travel from Mexico to Bracken Cave, where they spend the summer consuming insects that would otherwise hungrily eat common food crops. But the bats have been showing up far earlier than they did two decades ago.In a study, scientists at Rothamsted Research, an agricultural laboratory in England, used radar data from 160 U.S. weather stations to analyze activity in the Texas bat colony from 1995 through 2017. They discovered the creatures were leaving their winter quarters in Mexico earlier and reproducing sooner. They were also astonished to find increasing numbers of bats overwintering(过冬) at Bracken Cave instead of heading back to their cold weather quarters in Mexico. Overwintering is a sign that warmer temperatures change the bats' annual rhythms, Rothamsted biologist Phillip Stepanian says.A separate study of migratory bats in Indiana, published last year, found that temperature variations affected arrival and departure times—likewise hinting at the potential influence of climate change. Joy O'Keefe, a biology professor at Indiana State University and co-author of that study, says early arrival at their summer habitats(栖息地) could expose these bats to cold snaps(寒流), and they could freeze to death.Joy O'Keefe and her colleagues also found that changing bat migration times can also clash with rainfall patterns. Many insects that bats eat breed in seasonal lakes and puddles. If the bats arrive too early to benefit from summer rainfall and the resulting abundance of insects they may struggle to feed their pups(幼崽) or skip reproduction altogether, O'Keefe says. She fears this shift could cause Midwestern bats to decrease toward extinction, which would be bad news for humans. "Declines in bat populations could have severe effects for crop success," she says, adding that bats also "control significant disease vectors, such as mosquitoes."However, scientists are not certain that climate change alone is causing the Bracken Cave bat colony to migrate earlier. They have found a direct link between seasonal temperatures and bird migration, but bats are also influenced by factors such as changes in wind speed and direction. And there are other complications. “Bats are mysterious little animals th at move mostly at night and are difficult to observe and track," Stepanian says. "We have this conceptual picture of what might be happening, but really tying it to the cause is the next step."(1)Scientists at Rothamsted Research found that _________.A. bats prefer colder weatherB. bats delay their reproductionC. warming affects bat migrationD. radar can be used to observe bats(2)Joy O'Keefe discovered that _________.A. bats are used to living in rainfall seasonsB. bats' earlier migration might harm farmingC. insects' reproduction helps to spread diseaseD. insects shortage makes bats reproduce earlier(3)What does the last paragraph want to tell us?A. Wind speed and direction affect bats.B. It is difficult to observe and track bats.C. Climate change makes bats migrate earlier.D. Further research on the cause is necessary.(4)What is the best title for the passage?A. Bats' habitatsB. Endangered batsC. Bats' scheduleD. 一、高中英语阅读理解1.阅读理解It seems that electronic devices just keep getting smaller. Scientists in the United States have announced the creation of the first transistor with only two dimensions(二维).A transistor is a small electronic device that transfers or carries electronic current. Scientists hope these new 2D transistors will be used for building high-resolution(高分辨率)displays that need very little energy. Two groups of scientists created these 2D transistors. They report that the transistors are only a few atoms thick.Usually transistors are made with the element silicon(硅). Computer processors, memory chips, TV screens and other electronic devices contain billions of silicon-based transistors. But these very small electrical parts have certain limitations.Dimitris Ioannou is an electrical engineering professor at George Mason University. He says the traditional transistor has been improved as much as it can be. He adds that researchers have been looking for new materials with special features and they want transistors to be seen through and soft."If the layers are very thin, the transistor can become flexible, so it doesn't have to be rigid(坚硬的), like it would be in a silicon chip. So people can think of applications like wearable electronics, television screens and other things," said Ioannou. These new transistors can also carry higher current. They also can move the current much faster than traditional transistors. This is important for high-definition screens.Dimitris Ioannou says the scientific success could prove very useful in the future. "Now, how good and how useful it will be, it's still in the stage of research, but it certainly is an advance," said Ioannou.(1)Which of the following statements about the newly created transistor is TRUE?A.They are expected to be used in high-resolution displays.B.The transistors are made with the element silicon.C.They are rigid, just like traditional transistors.D.They have already been put into actual use.(2)What does the underlined sentence in Paragraph 5 mean?A.The traditional transistors have been changed into two-dimensional ones.B.Many of the traditional transistors have been improved over the years.C.The traditional transistor has been developed to its fullest.D.The traditional transistor has been developed quite well.(3)What is Dimitris Ioannou's attitude towards the creation of the new transistors?A.Negative.B.Neutral.C.Indifferent.D.Positive.【答案】(1)A(2)C(3)D【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,美国科学家发明了新的二维晶体管,介绍了新型二维晶体管的相关信息及未来前景。

21 Weather and Men阅读理解专项训练
Weather and Men
Everybody talks about the weather, but nobody does anything about it. It is true. People usually begin their talks with "Isn't it a nice day?" "Do you think it will rain?" "What a fine day!" etc.
Many people think they can tell what the weather is going to be like. But
they hardly agree with each other. One man may say, "Do you see how cloudy it
is in the east? It's going to rain tomorrow." Another man will say, "No, it's going to be fine tomorrow."
People often look for the weather they want. When a farmer needs water, he looks for something to tell him it's going to rain; he won't believe anything else. When friends have a travel, they are sure the weather is goint to clear up very quickly.
Almost everyone listens to what the weather man says. But he doesn't always
tell us what we want, and once in a while he makes a mistake. Still, he probably comes closer to being correct than anyone else.
