My Personal Views on Lying
As everybody knows, there is little chance that there is someone who hasn’t told lies. That is to say, lying is a common phenomenon. However, there are also two kinds of lies according to me. One is a bad lie , while the other is a white lie—a good one .
If people tell bad lies which only benefit them in a short time, the lying is immoral and selfish. For example, if a badly—off man needs money, then he lies to a kind—hearted woman by saying that he has suffered some bad things, which make he become an absolutely poor young man . Generally speaking ,he will get the woman’s support on money. That’s too bad. Maybe in the short time ,he’ll live a comfortable life. But in the long run, he’ll be caught by the police sooner or later. On the other hand ,the behavior not only makes the woman lose money but also lose confidence in others, which eventually will have a very terrible effect on our society.
If people tell white lies which benefit others more than themselves, then the lying is noble and deserves praise. For instance , when a patient who is thought to be dying for the cancer requires the doctor about his illness, then the warm and experienced doctor tells him optimistic sides of his sickness, such as “Don’t worry too much about that. You are getting better and better and just keep optimistic. I have confidence in you .” Perhaps the words or the white lie will have a great influence on the patient, which magically makes him recover from the disease.
In a word ,there are two kinds of lies .And in my opinion ,if you want to judge a lie or a liar, you should take two important sides into consideration, the motivation and the result of lying. So we can not easily say that all lies are bad. In fact ,we may need to lie sometimes for many different reasons. But remember to be a good liar—tell white lies to make life easy and nice for others.。
