Teaching procedures:
Step1Lead-in
1. Show students a video about ancient Pompeii.
2. Answer questions

3) What happened to it?
4) What is it like now?
5) What else do you want to know about them?
Step2 Reading comprehension.
1. Ask students to read the passage quickly and try to find answers to the questions in Part
A.
2. Ask students to read again and complete Part C1.
3. Let students complete Part C2.
Step 3 Reading strategy
1. Discuss in pairs about what features are usually included in diary entries.
2. Let students read the Reading strategy.
3. When you are reading diary entries recording someone’s travels, you should look for:

⑵Facts and historical information
⑶Personal feelings and opinions
4. Answer questions according to the text.
