Lesson 42 Happy holidays
本课时的教学内容是冀教版七年级上册英语第七单元的第六课时,重点在于引导学生了解关于加拿大和澳大利亚的天气和季节,从表示“
圣诞节”的词开始,导入加拿大的天气情况的话题。

以了解加拿大的气候作为任务引起学生的兴趣,训练学生使用英语描述天气和季节的能
力。

利用动作、手势和图片学习英语单词,同时在文章中反复运用基数词、序数词和it 。

Step 1. Lead in
Leading in 【情景1】
Warm up. Ask the students to talk about the following questions.
(1)What’s your favourite season?
(2)What weather do you like?
(3)How do you feel about the weather?
(4)What do you like to do in this season?
Leading in 【情景2】
Suppose you have a friend in Canada. Write an e-mail to him/her.Tell him/ her about the weather in your city and ask him/ her about the weather there. You can talk about the following questions.
(1)What’s the weather like in your city now?
(2)Do you like it? Why?
(3)What can you do in this season?
(4)How’s the weather in your friend’s city?
After a few minutes, ask the groups to give a report.
Group 1:
Dear XX,
I’m glad to write to y ou. Let me tell you the weather in my city now. It’s very cold now.It’s winter. Sometimes it snows heavily. After the snow, the children are happy. We can make snowmen, play snow balls or go skiing. I don’t like cold weather.It makes me feel cold. I don’t want to do anything outside. What season is in your country now? Is it cold or warm? Please write to me and tell me about it soon.

Step 2. Presentation
1.Show the students objects or pictures and learn the new words and expressions in this part Show a picture to the students.Point to the picture and ask:
Ss: It’s a beach.
T: Now read after me,“beach”.
Ss: Beach.
T: How do you feel when you see the beach?
Ss: I feel excited.
T: Now read after me,“excited”.
Ss: Excited.

2.Ask the students to make sentences with the new words and phrases.
S1: What do you know about Australia?
S2: It has beautiful beaches.
S3: Do you hope to go to Australia?
S4: Yes, I do.
S5: Does Australia have cold weather in winter?
S6: Yes, I think so.

Step 3. Listening
1.Listen to the passage and answer the following questions.
(1)Who writes to Wang Mei?
(2)What’s the date today?
(3)Is Jenny from Australia?
(4)Is December a winter month in Australia?

2.Listen to the passage and ask the students to imitate it.
The students should pay attention to the pronunciation and intonation.
Step 4. Reading
1.The teacher asks the class to read the passage aloud and answer the following questions.
(1)What festival is coming?
(2)Where does Anne live?
(3)When does Jenny want to visit Anne?
(4)Why does Jenny want to go to Australia at Christmas?
2.Read the passage and fill in the blanks.
