Probably my best friend is one of my schoolmates, whose name is Marcela and we have known each other since we were 8 years old. Marcela looks very pretty, with short brown hair, brown eyes, and a small nose. She is not very tall but not short either. She always wears jeans and a T-shirt or sweater.
It seems that she and I are always talking or laughing about something. She has a wonderful sense of humor(幽默) and I always get the best advice from her. Since I am better in math and science and she is better in English and some other languages, we can always help each other in our study.
Marcela and I have many of the same hobbies. We both enjoy music, playing the guitar and singing. We like going to Glory Days but sometimes can’t agree on which movies to see. Sometimes we just walk around, trying to find a new area of the city to explore. We both like traveling, reading, and swimming.
Sometimes during the summer, I go with her and her family to their summer house which is next to a large lake. We usually spend most of the day swimming or exploring the area but sometimes we take a small boat and go fishing. In the evening, we might walk into town and see a movie or stay at home and watch TV. Whatever we’re doing, it’s always fun to be with her. Even when our lives get busy, we still make time to see each other. We feel so glad that we get along so well with each other.
I hope that our friendship will continue and still be so strong after we leave high school. We would like to study at the same university.

Things here in England are pretty different from back home in Boston. Now I’ve got used to a lot of stuff(东西) here, like transportation(交通),shopping and eating. But it’s a lot harder to be used to(习惯于)being away from home.
The experience here in England are new and interesting. The whole attitude towards drinking is different. Although the drinking age here in England is 18(ours is 21), many people have been drinking since they were really young. It’s really common

As for classes, they are the same here as in Boston, only college students in my home town have fewer lectures(讲座)to attend. The professors here are good, and they do a good job of teaching. What’s strange is that students are not allowed to eat in a lecture hall, and that falling asleep in class is also very bad manners.
Besides, the programs here are much fun too. Things like accommodations(住宿) and some other aspects(方面)of college life weren’t really taken care of until late in the fall. Although they were dealt in the last minute, all of them were prepared very nicely. When the term began, we all had great accommodations and classes were started without any problem.

It is believed that the new tooth will grow strong if the baby tooth is fed to a dog, so parents in Mongo lia will put their children’s
fallen teeth in a piece of meat and feed it to a dog.
In France and the USA, a child will put a fallen tooth under his or her pillow(枕头)before going to bed. It is thought that in the early morning , when the child is still sleeping, the Tooth Fairy will take the tooth away and leave something else under the

In 1901, H. G. Wells, an English writer, wrote a book describing a trip to the moon. When the explorers (探险者) landed on the moon, they discovered that the moon was full of underground cities. They expressed their surprise to the “moon people” they met. H. G. Wells could only imagine travel to the moon. In 1969, human beings really did land on the moon . People today know that there are no underground cities on the moon. However, the question that the “moon people” asked is still an interesting one.

Underground systems(系统) are already in place. Many cities have underground car parks. In some cities, such as Tokyo, Seoul and Montreal, there are large underground shopping areas. The “Chunnel” , a tunnel (隧道) connecting England and France , is now complete.
But what about underground cities? Japan’s T aisei Corporation is designing a network of undergrou nd systems, called “Alice Cities,” The designers imagine using surface space for pubic parks and using underground space for flats, offices, shopping, and so on. A solar dome (太阳能穹顶) would cover the whole city.

Dear sir,
I’m writing to request a valuable chance to be one of the host families of the British students.
We have a large and clean house, which lies in a beautiful area of the city. I’m good at English and my parents are both professors of English, so I’m sure we won’t have any difficulty communicating with English speakers. My father is an excellent driver and we will be very glad to show foreign students around some nearby places of interest in our own car. Last month we received two American students. We had a great time. Besides, my mother cooks well, so the students will be able to enjoy delicious Chinese food. I would greatly appreciate it if I could have the chance to make friends with them.
Looking forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua。
