When students think of learning a foreign language, the first thought is of books, exercises, and audio cassettes. Those are important to learning but sometimes a little bit boring. Therefore, it is time for us to spice things up a bit.
Things like a cellphone can keep your interest level high. It's a perfect study material. You have it with you day after day, you are familiar with how it works and you can use it to practice whenever you have time.
You don't need to have your books by your side or stay in your room to listen to tapes. Let's take a look at how to add your cellphone to your study tools.
Set up your cellphone to use the language you want to study. Go to the menu, find settings, locate language and change it to English or Spanish, which benefits your language learning.
Look at the buttons and connect those items with the new vocabulary. This enables you to master simple words and phrases with little effort. For example, each time you open up your cellphone you'll see "messages", "games" and "calls made". These words begin to take root if you see them again and again.
When you have time, take out your cellphone and start hitting buttons. You'll be surprised at all the vocabulary you can learn by playing with the different menu items. Some things you'll recognize immediately and others you can guess just by where you find them.
It can keep your learning fresh and interesting. And that's important because boredom is a big problem with language learners. You need variety and a cellphone is one way to get it.
24. Why did the author write the passage?
A. To inform how to keep your learning fresh.
B. To stress the importance of language learning.
C. To introduce the latest ways of language learning.
D. To explain how to use cellphones to learn language.
25. The underlined part “spice things up” in the first paragraph means “______”.
A. make things realistic
B. make things interesting
C. make things helpful
D. make things obvious
26. By playing with a cellphone, you can ______.
A. learn the words in the menu
B. remember the messages sent by others
C. improve the techniques of playing games
D. become familiar with different kinds of languages
27. Which of the following is NOT an advantage of using a cellphone as a study material?
A. We can study with it at any moment.
B. It keeps our learning interest high.
C. We can use it to practice freely.
D. It offers the chance to practice learning.

The Olympic Games are seen as the greatest test of an athlete’s ability and are supposed to celebrate the spirit of fair play. But in fact, sportsmen have been using drugs to cheat their way to victory since the Games first began.
In the early years, athletes ate mushrooms and plant seeds to improve their performance. Nowadays, this kind of cheating has a name doping.
Just last month, Britain’s top sprinter(赛跑选手)Dwain Chambers and several American athletes tested positive for the drug THG. Until a coach(教练)secretly gave a sample of THG to scientists, no one knew how to test for it.
“We’re like the police chasing criminals—athletes are always adapting and looking for areas we h aven’t investigated(调查),” said Jacquew de Ceaurriz, a French anti-doping expert.
Since the first drugs test was carried out at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City, many cheats have been caught out. The most famous case in history is that of Canadian sprinter Ben Johnson.
He broke the 100 meters world record in winning gold at the 1988 Seoul Olympics. But days later, he tested positive for drug use, lost his gold medal and was banned from the sport. Five years later, he returned to action—only to be found positive again and banned forever.
China has also had problems with drug cheats. At the 1994 Asian Games, 11 Chinese athletes—seven of them swimmers—tested positive for banned drugs. Sports organizations promised that cheating on this scale(规模)would not happen again.
Experts are also worried that doping can damage a person’s health. It is believed to increase the risk of liver and kidney diseases, and women may experience reproductive (生育)problems. As long as they can stay ahead of the scientists, it is unlikely the cheats will stop. But experts say there is a limit to what can be achieved and that athletes will not be able to change their bodies using gene technology.
“For the moment, genetic doping does not exist,” said de Ceaurriz. “Even in 10 or 15 years it will not be done easily—the scientific community will not let it happen.”
28. We can know from the passage that ____________.
A. athletes used to eat mushrooms and plant seeds to keep healthy
B. scientists knew about THG with the help of a coach
C. 11 Chinese swimmers were caught doping at the 1994 Asian Games
D. genetic doping has changed the bodies of some athletes
29. How many countries are mentioned in the passage in which there were athletes doping?
A. Two.
B. Four.
C. Six.
D. Eight.
30. We can infer from the passage that __________.
A. problems with drug cheats are still serious though they are severely tested
B. scientists get a lot of information about drugs before the athletes take doping
C. taking doping will never happen again because of the serious test
D. few athletes used drug cheats before the 1968 Olympics
31. Which of the following would be the best title for the passage?
A. The Damages Caused by Doping
B. Research on Cheating by Gene Technology
C. Fighting Against Cheating at the Olympic Games
D. Police Caught Athletes Doping at the Olympic Games

What will man be like in the future—in 5000 or even 50,000 years from now? We can only make guesses, of course, but we can be sure that he will be different from what he is today, for man is slowly changing all the time.
Let us take an obvious example. Man, even five hundred years ago, was shorter than he is today. Now, on average, men are about three inches taller. Five hundred years is relatively short period of time, so we may assume that man will continue to grow taller. Again, in the modern world we use our brains a great deal. Even so, we still make use of only about 20% of the brain’s capacity. As time goes on, however, we shall have to use our brains more and more, and eventually we shall need larger ones! This is likely to bring about a physical change to the head, in particular the forehead, will grow larger.
Nowadays our eyes are in constant use. In fact, we use them so much that very often
they become weaker and we have to wear glasses. But over very long period of time it is likely that man’s eyes will grow stronger.
On the other hand, we tend to make less use of our arms and legs. These, as a result, are likely to grow weaker. At the same time, however, our fingers will grow more sensitive because they are used a great deal in modern life.
But what about hair? This will probably disappear from the body altogether in course of time because it does not serve a useful purpose any longer. In the future, then, both sexes are likely to be bald.
Perhaps all this gives the impression that future man will not be a very attractive creature to look at! This may well be true. All the same, in spite of all these changes, future man will still have a lot in common with us. He will still be a human being, with thoughts and emotions similar to our own.
32. Which of the following serves as the evidence that man is changing?
A. Man’s hair is getting thinner and thinner.
B. Man has got stronger eyes now than he ever had.
C. Man has been growing taller over the past 500 years.
D. Man’s arms and legs have become lighter and weaker.
33. Which of the following is TRUE about a human being in the future?
A. He thinks and feels in a different way.
B. He has smaller eyes and wears better glasses.
C. He is hairless because hair is no longer useful.
D. His fingers grow weaker because he doesn’t use them.
34. The change in man’s size of forehead is probably because __________.
A. he makes use of only 20 % of the brain’s capacity
B. the other 80% of his brain will grow in due(预定的)time
C. his brain has grown larger over the past centuries
D. he will use his brain more and more as time goes on
35. The passage mainly tells us that ________________.
A. man’s life will be different in the future
B. future man will look quite different from us
C. man is growing taller and uglier as time passes
D. the functions of man’s organs will function as well as today

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
选项中有两项为多余选项。
Choosing a college major is one of the most important choices you can make about your education and future career. What you study in college often determines what career opportunities you will have when you graduate. 56
There are a number of steps you can take before making a final decision. 57 For example, if you enjoy marine life, you should consider a marine biology major. If you love star-gazing, consider becoming an astronomer.
58 If you’re not strong in math you might be better off not choosing engineering.
If you are not good at English, don’t choose to become an author or a journalist. Compare the list of your interests with the list of your talents and see which fields overlap (交叉).
Once you’ve established a list of potential career fields, research them further to determine which college majors are most proper. 59 If you struggle with these steps, consider looking for outside help.
Choosing the correct college major is important. You might find college life to be less stressful if you make a right decision. 60 Perhaps most importantly, choosing the correct major may improve your overall happiness and quality of life.
A. Next, consider the academic subjects in which you do well.
B. Your teacher is there to help with just this sort of dilemma.
C. After research, you will be more likely to get an idea for what courses you’ll take.
D. Therefore, making the right decision is extremely important.
E. College life is less interesting than you can expect.
F. You might also avoid the unpleasantness that comes with changing your major.
G. Begin by making a list of your personal interests and careers which is related to them.

How to protect ourselves in campus violence
Dear friends,
This year, some seriously violent incidents happened in campus, resulting in very bad
results. The incidents of campus violence have drawn widespread attention in our country.
As a student, we should learn some knowledge about how to deal with the violence and enhance
the ability of self-protection.
Of course, if we meet the violence, we should take appropriate measures to protect
ourselves. At first, we’d better keep calm, judge the situation and be aware of the possible
dangers. Then, we should try our best to escape or prevent the violence. At last but not
least, we should call the police or teachers as soon as possible to avoid the physical
injury.
That’s all. Thank you.。
