The best way of learning a language is using it. The best way of learning English is talking in English as much as possible. Sometimes you'll get your words mixed up (混合) and people will not understand you. Sometimes people will say things too quickly and you can't understand them. But if you keep your sense of humor, you can always have a good laugh at the mistakes you make. Don't be unhappy if people seem to be laughing at your mistakes. It's better for people to laugh at your mistakes than to be angry with you, because they don't understand what you are saying. The most important thing for learning English is: “Don't be afraid of making mistakes because everyone makes mistakes.”

What does it take to be a good neighbour? Over the years I have had all kinds of neighbours, ones that were enjoyable and others that were to be avoided at all costs.
One of the most important things in being a good neighbour is to respect the personal privacy(隐私). When someone new moves into the neighbourhood, you'd better wait and see when and how to go to pay a visit. If you go rushing over as soon as they move in, they may think you are going to be one of those neighbours that come over at all times of the day, not respecting their privacy.
It is a good idea to always be friendly to everyone in the neighbourhood. This can not only make you get along well with them, but will also be a form of protection for your family and home. If you wave as they drive by or offer a friendly hello while they are out in their yard, it shows that you like them and try to be friendly. If you are cordial(热诚的) to them, they are much more likely to watch out for any wrong doings going on around your home while you are out and let you know if anything happens.
Another way of being a good neighbour is to be helpful in times of need. If you see that they are in need of a helping hand doing something or in times of difficulty, it is good to offer your help. Even though you haven't talked a lot to the people down the street, they are willing to take the time to help you because you have ever helped them when they were in need.
In conclusion, if you respect their personal privacy, treat them cordially and be helpful when you see they are in need, you will be a great neighbour and anyone would be happy to have you next door!
39.What should we do when a new neighbour moves in?

I was never very neat, while my roommate Kate was extremely organized. Each of her objects had its place, but mine always hid somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签 ) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.
War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take yo ur shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me.
I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.
The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of t he conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly
crawled (爬 ) under her covers, sobbing.Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy rose up in my heart.
Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn't notice Kate had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression one of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me. “Thanks.”
Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn't always agree, but we learned the key to living together: giving in cleaning up and holding on.

If you're in an office building, stay away from windows and outside walls and do not use the elevator. If you're outside, get into the open. Stay clear of buildings, power lines or anything else that could fall on you. If you're driving, move the car out of traffic and stop. Avoid parking under or on bridges or overpasses.
After an Earthquake
Check for fire. If you smell gas, shut off the main gas valve (阀). If there's sign of damage to electrical wiring, shut off the power at the control box. If the phone is working, only use it in case of emergency. Avoid driving if possible to keep the streets clear for emergency vehicles. Be careful that things may fall out of cupboards when the door is opened, and also that chimneys can be weakened and fall with just a touch. Listen to the radio for important information and instructions. Remember that aftershocks, sometimes large enough to cause damage in their own right, generally follow large quakes. If you leave home, leave a message telling your friends and family your location.

E
If you do not use your arm or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using them again, they slowly become strong again. Everybody knows that. Yet many people do not seem to know that memory works in the same way. When someone says that he has a good memory, he really means that he keeps his memory in practice by using it. When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong. If a friend says that his arms and legs are weak, we know that it is his own fault(过错). But if he tells us that
he has a poor memory, many of us think that his parents are to blame(受责备), and few of us know that it is just his own fault. Have you ever found that some people can't read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things; they cannot write down in a little notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories; so their memory is the whole time being exercised. So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: Practice remembering.
51.The main reason for one is poor memory is that ________.
A.his father or mother may have a poor memory
B.He does not use his name or legs for some time
C.his memory is not often used
D.he can't read or write
答案:C 细节题。

按照文章四,五行“When someone else says that his memory is poor, he really means that he does not give it enough chance to become strong.”可知人的记忆不好,主如果因为咱们给大脑的锻炼不够。

故C正确。

52.If you do not use your arms or legs for some time ________.
A.you can't use them any more
B.they will become stronger
C.they become weak and won't become strong until you use them again.
D.they will become neither stronger nor weaker
答案:C 推理题。

按照文章一,二行“If you do not use your arm or your legs for some time, they become weak; when you start using them again.”可知咱们不利用咱们的胳膊和腿的时候,他们就会很虚弱,可是当我从头利用它们的时候,它们又会变得很强,故C正确。

53.Which of the following is NOT true?
A.Your memory works in the same way as your arms or legs.
B.Your memory, like your arms or legs, becomes weak if you don't give it enough chance for practice.
C.Don't learn how to read and write if you want to have a better memory.
D.A good memory comes from more practice.
答案:C 推理题。

按照文章倒数第二行“Have you ever found that some people can't read or write but usually they have better memories? This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things; they cannot write down in a little notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories; so their memory is
the whole time being exercised.”可知那些不会阅读和写作的人通常记忆力会比较好,那是因为他们不会写,所以他们不能不尽力去记忆。

可是并非是说若是你想有更好的记忆力就不要去学习阅读和书写。

故C项的说法是错误的。

54.Some people can't read or write, but they usually have better memories, because ________.
A.they have save much trouble
B.they have saved much time to remember things
C.they have to use their memories all the time
D.they can't write everything in a little notebook
答案:C 细节题。

按照文章倒数二,三行“This is because they cannot read or write and they have to remember things; they cannot write down in a little notebook. They have to remember days, names, songs and stories; so their memory is the whole time being exercised.”可知正是因为那些人不会阅读和书写,所以他们不能不尽力运用他们的记忆力去记东西,所以他们的记忆力反而会变好。

故C正确。

55.Which is the best title for this passage?
A.Don't Stop Using Your Arms Or Legs
B.How To Have a Good Memory
C.Strong Arms And Good Memories
D.Learn From the People
答案:B 主旨大意题。

按照文章最后一句“So if you want to have a good memory, learn from the people: Practice remembering.”可知本文主要讲述的是如何才可以有更好的记忆,多加练习。

因为练习可以锻炼咱们的记忆力,故B正确。

How to Find Yourself
Do you often feel lost?Do you think you are living somebody else's life? If yes, discover ways to find yourself by going thro ugh the following article.
1.________
If you are thinking, “how to find yourself when you are lost?”, then the first thing to do is to have a rest from everything—work, personal life and all worldly things. Give time to yourself to think why you seem lost. Is it because of overwork? Is it because you are not leading a life that you want to? Or is it because you are not satisfied with the people or things around you? Try to find answers to these questions to determine the cause behind your restlessness.
2.________
For once, instead of being the way others want you to be, be yourself. Look within and find yourself in you. Think about the things that you would want to do if you didn't have any family responsibility (责任)or any money problems. Think about the kind of relationship (关系)you would want to be in, the place that you would like to stay in, the kind of lifestyle you would like to lead, if you didn't have the society or people around you, judging all the time. If you really want to know how to find inner peace, then think, what you would want others to describe you as—an honest person? Or adventurous? Or loving, or realistic? Once you look within, you will know the answer and then try to be exactly that.
3.________
Thinking deeply about the past, the time or situations when you were the happiest, is another way to find yourself .Think what you were doing or with whom you were, when you were the happiest. This will help you to identify things that you want to do in life that make you happy and also certain people whose company you enjoy.
4.________
Knowing yourself and determining what you are to do with your life will not e to you in a day or two. Discovering oneself is an ongoing process and it can take months or sometimes even years to truly find yourself. So, it's important that you keep a written record of all your feelings and thoughts, which you can go through at a later stage. Pour all your emotions and feelings about life in it and who knows may be one day going through it, you will find yourself.
5.________
Once you have discovered what you want to do with your life, make a move for
change and self improvement. Even if it means taking up small things such as dancing
or painting, go ahead and do it. If you want a career change, plan and take steps
so that it can take place smoothly. If you are stuck in a bad relationship and find
yourself unable to mend it, break away. At the beginning, you may find yourself
slightly unbalanced, but with time everything will be fine.
It is very important for you to truly find yourself, before it is too late. If
you do not find yourself now, you will spend your life with somebody you do not even
know, i.e. yourself.

参考范文:
Dear Miss Chen,
It's two months since I entered the senior middle school. I find it difficult to get used to the new school life here.
First of all, I have some trouble making new friends. Maybe it's because I am a shy boy and not good at communicating with others that I often feel lonely. Besides, I don't have a good command of English, especially spoken English. As a result, I dare not express myself in class. However, most of my classmates can speak English quite fluently. I feel upset sometimes. What's more, I can't get along well with my deskmate, who is a very stubborn girl.
I do want to change the situation and I need your help. I would be very grateful if you could give me some advice.
Yours,
Liu Dong。
