一). Show two pictures of Shanghai to present the structure: “used to”
T: What do you think of Shanghai?
S: It is very modern.
T: Was it modern before?
S: No, it wasn’t. It was a small fishing village before.
T: Right. Shanghai used to be a small fishing village. But now it is a modern city. 句型“Shanghai used to be a small village.”,学生很容易理解 used to 的含义和用法。
(1)used to后面接动词原形,表示过去习惯做的动作或经常出现的状态,
(2)used to的否定式和疑问式都各有两种形式。
如:否定形式:He didn’t use to … He used not to …
疑问式:Did you use to …? Used you to … ?
回答形式:Yes, I did./ No, I didn’t. Yes, I used to./ No. I usedn’t to.
Make sentences using used to according to the models.
(一)Model I:
1. I / get up late / early
I used to get up late. But now I get up early.
2. Linda / play the piano every afternoon / twice a week
3. Julia / watch cartoons in the evening / chat on the Internet
4 There be / some huts in this area / a lot of high-rises
Keys:2. Linda used to play the piano every afternoon. But now she plays the piano twice a week.
3. Julia used to watch cartoons in the evening. But now she chats on the Internet in the evening.
4. There used to be some huts in this area. But now there are a lot of high-rises in this area.
Model II:
Bob / go to school on foot / by bus
Did Bob use to go to school on foot? No, he didn’t. He used to go to school by bus.
Helen / go to bed at 9:00 / at 9:30
2. Tom’s aunt / play badminton in the morning / jog
Keys:1 Did Helen use to go to bed at 9:00? No, she didn’t. She used to go to bed at 9:30.

The Wangs used to live in a small flat. Now they live in a bigger one. One evening, Wang Qiang went to visit his friend, Li Gang.
A:What’s your new housing estate like, Wang Qiang?
B:It’s very nice. It’s a modern housing estate. It has nice facilities. There’s a lot
of open space for sports, and t here’s also a swimming pool and a children’s playground in it. In front of the bu ildings, there’s a green area.
A:Is your flat in a high-rise?
B:Yes, it is.
A:What about public transport?
B: It’s very convenient. It’s about ten minutes’ walk to the bus s tops and the light rail station. Buy the way, we’re going to have a house-warming party next weekend. You must come. Here’s my new telephone number and address.
A: Thank you. I’ll certainly come.
1. Ask the students to read the text in silence, then they listen to the teacher read
it ,then read after the teacher, then the students read again by themselves, and finally read the text together .

his mother about Wang Qiang’s new flat.
Let the students do it by themselves ,then the teacher asks one student to say his or answers to the class.
The answers are:

1. Listening and Speaking.
Listen to Li Fang talking about the improvement in her family’s housing conditions, and then complete the two tasks below.
Task1: Complete Li Fang’s talk.
Task2: Suppose you are Li Fang. Tell your classmates about the improvement in your housing conditions.
2. Describe improvement in the housing conditions of the Zhangs and their housing estate. Use the picture and cues and used to.

The teacher asks the students complete it, and asks four students to say his or her answers to the class, the teacher and the students their answers together. The answers are:
There used to be one bedroom and no sitting room. But now there are two bedrooms, a study and a large sitting room.
There used to be small houses and no green area or children’s playground. But now there are a lot of high-rises, a green area, a children’s playground and a swimming pool.
There used to be only one shop. But now there are several shops, a supermarket and a shopping mall.
They used to go to work by bike. But now they go to work by underground.
四)Reading.
Read the passage and complete the two tasks below.
For this part, ask the students to read by themselves and about three minutes later, the teacher read the text and change it into Chinese. Then ask the students to complete the Task1. When they finish, ask five students to say their answers to the class, and the answers are:

九、教学反思:
上课开始,对同学们进行了used to 的用法,并进行巩固练习,在后面的课文当中学习起来就容易多了,同时又是巩固练习的机会,所以同学们对本课的知识重点掌握的较好.。
