My Unforgettable Fifth Grade Year
Hi there! My name is Emily, and I'm a fifth-grade student. This year has been an incredible journey, filled with new adventures, challenges, and plenty of unforgettable moments. Let me take you through the highlights of my fifth-grade experience.
Module 1: Making Friends
At the start of the school year, I was both excited and a little nervous. Making new friends can be daunting, but I quickly learned that having an open mind and a friendly attitude goes a long way. During our first few English classes, we played icebreaker games that helped us get to know each other better. I still remember the fun we had introducing ourselves and sharing our hobbies and interests.
One of the highlights of this module was learning how to describe people's appearances and personalities. We practiced
using adjectives to describe our classmates, and it was hilarious to hear some of the creative descriptions we came up with. I'll never forget when my best friend, Sarah, described me as "a bundle of energy with a contagious smile."
Module 2: My Favorite Things
This module was all about expressing our preferences and talking about the things we like or dislike. We learned how to use phrases like "I like/don't like," "My favorite __ is," and "I prefer __ to __." It was fascinating to discover how diverse our classmates' interests and tastes were.
One of my favorite activities was creating a "My Favorite Things" poster. We had to draw or cut out pictures of our favorite foods, animals, sports, books, and more. Presenting our posters to the class was a lot of fun, and I learned so much about my classmates' unique preferences.
Module 3: My Daily Routine
In this module, we explored the world of daily routines and schedules. We practiced using time expressions, sequencing words, and phrases like "first," "then," "after that," and "finally." It was interesting to learn about the different routines and schedules we all had.
One of the highlights was when we had to create a comic strip depicting our typical day. We had to draw the different activities we engage in, from waking up to going to bed, and include speech bubbles with the corresponding time expressions. It was a creative way to practice our language skills while also showcasing our artistic talents.
Module 4: My Family and Pets
This module was all about family and pets. We learned how to describe our family members, their appearances, personalities, and occupations. We also practiced using possessive adjectives like "my," "your," "his," and "her."
One of my favorite activities was the "Family Tree" project. We had to create a family tree, including our parents, grandparents, siblings, and even pets. It was fascinating to see the diversity of family structures and pet preferences among our classmates.
Module 5: My City and Neighborhood
In this final module, we explored the world around us – our neighborhoods and cities. We learned how to describe different places, such as parks, schools, libraries, and museums. We also
practiced giving and following directions using phrases like "turn left/right," "go straight," and "cross the street."
One of the highlights was our "Neighborhood Tour" presentation. We had to create a virtual tour of our neighborhoods, showcasing the different places and landmarks. It was exciting to learn about the diverse communities our classmates came from and the unique features of their neighborhoods.
Throughout this incredible fifth-grade journey, I've not only learned valuable English language skills but also gained a deeper appreciation for the diversity and richness of our classmates' lives. From making new friends to exploring our daily routines, families, and neighborhoods, every module has been a treasure trove of knowledge and unforgettable experiences.
As I look back on this year, I'm filled with gratitude for my amazing teachers, who made learning English so enjoyable and interactive. Their patience, creativity, and enthusiasm have truly inspired me to continue exploring the world of language and culture.
I can't wait to see what adventures and challenges sixth grade has in store for me. But one thing is certain – the
memories and lessons from this incredible fifth-grade year will stay with me forever.

Certainly! Here's an English essay of approximately 2,000 words, written from a student's perspective, covering the content of Units 1 to 5 from the Go for it! English textbook (PEP Edition) for Grade 5, Volume 2.
Title: My Journey Through Grade 5, Volume 2
Hello, everyone! My name is Alex, and I'm a fifth-grader at Sunshine Elementary School. I'm excited to share my experiences and learnings from the second half of this academic year. Buckle up because it's been quite an adventure!
Unit 1: Keeping Fit and Healthy
The first unit we covered was all about staying fit and healthy.
I learned so much about the importance of exercise, eating a balanced diet, and maintaining good hygiene. One of the most valuable lessons was understanding the different food groups and how to create a nutritious meal plan. I even tried some new healthy snacks, like fresh fruits and veggies with hummus dip. Yum!
We also talked about various sports and physical activities that can keep us active and energized. I've always loved playing soccer, but now I'm interested in trying some new sports, like badminton or tennis. The best part was when our teacher organized a fun fitness day where we got to try different exercises and games. It was a great way to put our learnings into practice!
Unit 2: Protecting the Environment
In the second unit, we explored the fascinating world of environmental protection. I was amazed to learn about the different ways we can help preserve our planet, like reducing waste, conserving energy, and protecting natural habitats.
One of the highlights was our class project on recycling. We collected plastic bottles, paper, and other recyclable materials from our homes and school, and then sorted them into different bins. It was eye-opening to see how much waste we generate and how important it is to recycle properly.
We also learned about the impact of pollution on our air, water, and soil. It made me realize how crucial it is for all of us to take small steps towards a greener future. From using reusable water bottles to carpooling or biking to school, every little effort counts!
Unit 3: Traveling Around the World
Unit 3 was an absolute blast! We got to explore different countries and cultures through virtual tours, stories, and interactive activities. It was like taking a round-the-world trip without leaving our classroom!
One of my favorite lessons was learning about famous landmarks and natural wonders from various continents. I was fascinated by the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Great Barrier Reef, and the majestic Taj Mahal. It made me dream of one day visiting these incredible places in person.
We also learned about different customs, traditions, and cuisines from around the globe. I tried my hand at making some international dishes, like sushi from Japan and tacos from Mexico. While my cooking skills need some work, it was fun to explore new flavors and learn about diverse cultures.
Unit 4: Exploring the Past and Future
In Unit 4, we embarked on a journey through time, exploring both the past and the future. We learned about important historical events, ancient civilizations, and how our world has evolved over the centuries.
One of the most interesting topics was studying the ancient Egyptian civilization. We learned about their fascinating hieroglyphic writing system, their incredible architectural feats like the pyramids, and their rich mythology. I even tried my hand at deciphering some hieroglyphs – it was harder than it looked!
We also discussed the future and how technology might shape our lives in the years to come. From self-driving cars to artificial intelligence and space exploration, the possibilities seemed endless. It made me excited to imagine what amazing innovations lie ahead and how we can contribute to creating a better future for all.
Unit 5: Discovering the World of Science
The final unit was all about the fascinating world of science. We explored various scientific concepts, conducted experiments, and learned about famous scientists and their groundbreaking discoveries.
One of my favorite activities was our class science fair. Each of us had to come up with a project showcasing a scientific principle or experiment. I chose to demonstrate the concept of density by creating a lava lamp using oil, food coloring, and an antacid tablet. It was mesmerizing to watch the colorful bubbles rise and fall!
We also learned about different branches of science, like biology, chemistry, and physics. I was particularly intrigued by astronomy and the mysteries of the universe. Who knows, maybe one day I'll become an astronaut and explore the depths of space!
Overall, this second half of the school year has been an incredible learning experience. I've gained so much knowledge, tried new things, and developed a deeper appreciation for the world around me. I can't wait to see what exciting adventures await me in the next grade level.
Thank you for joining me on this journey! Until next time, keep exploring, learning, and growing!

Module 1: My Busy Day
The first module we covered was all about daily routines and schedules. I learned how to talk about my day, from the moment I wake up until I go to bed. It was a great way to practice using the present simple tense and time expressions like "in the morning," "at night," and so on.
One of the most fun activities we did was creating our own daily routine posters. I drew little stick figures doing different
activities like brushing my teeth, having breakfast, and going to school. It was a creative way to showcase what I had learned while also expressing my artistic side.
Module 2: My Hobbies
Next up was a module all about hobbies and interests. I loved this one because I got to talk about the things I enjoy doing in my free time, like playing video games, reading comics, and practicing martial arts.
We learned how to use the present continuous tense to describe ongoing actions, which came in handy when talking about our hobbies. One of the highlights was when we had to do a roleplay where we interviewed each other about our hobbies. It was hilarious listening to my classmates try to sound like professional interviewers!
