(2016·南京四校调研)It was Saturday. As always, it was a busy one, for “Six days shall you labor and do all your work” was taken seriously back then. Outside, Father and Mr. Patrick next door were busy chopping firewood. Inside their own houses, Mother and Mrs. Patrick were engaged in spring cleaning.
Somehow the boys had slipped away to the back lot with their kites. Now, even at the risk of having Brother caught to beat carpets, they had sent him to the kitchen for string(线). It seemed there was no limit to the heights to which kites would fly today. My mother looked at the sitting room, its furniture disordered for a thorough sweeping. Again she cast a look toward the window. “Come on, girls! Let’s take string to the boys and watch them.”
On the way we met Mrs. Patrick, laughing guiltily as if she were doing something wrong, together with her girls.
There never was such a day for flying kites! We played all our fresh string into the boys’ kites and they went up higher and higher. We could hardly distinguish the orangecolored spots of the kites. Now and then we slowly pulled one kite back, watching it dancing up and down in the wind, and finally bringing it down to earth, just for the joy of sending it up again.
Even our fathers dropped their tools and joined us. Our mothers took their turn, laughing like schoolgirls. I think we_were_all_beside_ourselves. Parents forgot their duty and their dignity; children forgot their everyday fights and little jealousies. “Perhaps it’s l ike this in the kingdom of heaven,”I thought confusedly.
It was growing dark before we all walked sleepily back to house. I suppose we had some sort of supper. I suppose there must have been a surface tidyingup, for the house on Sunday looked clean and orderly enough. The strange thing was, we didn’
t mention that day afterward. I felt a little embarrassed. Surely none of the others had been as excited as me. I locked the memory up in that deepest part of me where we keep“the things that cannot be and yet they are.”
The years went on, then one day I was hurrying about my kitchen in a city apartment, trying to get some work out of the way while my threeyearold daughter insistently cried her desire to“go park, see duck”.
“I can’t go!”I said. “I have this and this to do, and when I’m through I’ll be too tired to walk that far. ”
My mother, who was visiting us, looked up from the peas she was shelling, “It’s a wonderful day,”she offered, “Really warm, yet there’s a fine breezy. Do you remember that day we flew kites?”
I stopped in my dash between stove and sink. The looked door flew open and with it
a rush of memories. “C ome on.” I told my little girl. “You’re right, it’s too good a day to miss.”
Another decade passed. We were in the aftermath (余波)of a great war. All evening we had been asking our returned soldier, the youngest Patrick Boy, about his experiences as a prisoner of war. He had talked freely, but now for a long time he had been silent. What was he thinking of what dark and horrible things? “Say!”A smile slipped out from his lips.“Do you remember—no, of course you wouldn’t. It probably didn’t make the impres sion on you as it did on me.”
I hardly dared speak. “Remember what?”
“I used to think of that day a lot in POW camp(战俘营), when things weren’t too good. Do you remember the day we flew the kites?”

(2016·宿迁模拟)“Have you put any salt in it?”
“Certainly not, ma’am, ”answered Marie, amazed by the question.“You told me yourself that I was never to put salt in it.”
Upon this, Madame Duparc snatched up the saucepan without saying another word, turned to the cupboard, and stretched ou t her hand toward one of four saltcellars which always stood there. Then_she_sprinkled_salt_into_the_saucepan—or,_if_not_salt_something_which_she_t ook_for_salt.
The hastypudding made, Marie poured it from the saucepan into a soupplate which her mistress held. Madame Duparc herself then took it to her father, Monsieur De Beaulieu. Then she and her daughter, and one of her sons, remained with the old man while he was eating his breakfast. Marie, left in the kitchen, prepared to clean the saucepan; but, before she could do so, she was suddenly called in two different directions by Madame De Beaulieu and Madame Duparc. The old lady wished to be taken to mass, and her mistress wanted to send her on a number of errands. It was half past eleven in the forenoon before she got back to the kitchen.
The first news that met her on her return was that Monsieur De Beaulieu had been suffering, ever since nine o’clock, from a violent attack of vomiting and colic. Madame Duparc ordered her to help the old man to bed immediately; and inquired, when these directions had been followed, whether Marie felt capable of looking after him herself, or whether she would prefer that a nurse should be sent for. Being a kind hearted, willing girl, always anxious to make herself useful, Marie replied that she would gladly undertake the nursing of the old man; and thereupon her bed was moved at once into Monsieur De Beaulieu’room.
Meanwhile Madame Duparc fetched from a neighboring apothecary’s one of the apprentices(学徒) of the shop to see her father. The apprentice was quite unfit to meet the emergency of the case, which was certainly serious enough to require the attention of his master, if not of a regularly qualified physician. Instead of applying and internal remedies, the apprentice stupidly tried blistering. This course of treatment proved utterly useless; but no better advice was called in. After he
had suffered for hours without relief, Monsieur De Beaulieu began to sink rapidly toward the afternoon. At half past five o’clock he had ceased to exist.
This shocking catastrophe, startling and suspicious as it was, did not appear to disturb the nerves of Madame Duparc. She lost no time in sending for the nearest nurse to lay out the body of Monsieur De Beaulieu. On entering the chamber of death, the nurse found Marie there alone, praying by the old man’s bedside. “He died suddenly, did he not?”said the nurse.“Very suddenly,” answered Marie.“He was walking about only yesterday in perfect health.”Soon afterward the time came when it was customary to prepare supper. Marie went into the kitchen mechanically, to get the meal ready. Madame Duparc, her daughter, and her youngest son, sat down to it as usual. Madame De Beaulieu, overwhelmed by the dreadful death of her husband, was incapable of joining them.
When supper was over, Marie assisted the old lady to bed. Then, worn out though she was with fatigue, she went back to the nurse to keep her company in watching by the dead body. Monsieur De Beaulieu had been kind to Marie, and had spoken gratefully of the little attentions she had shown him. She remembered this tenderly now that he was no more; and she could not find it in her heart to leave a hired mourner to be th e only watcher by his deathbed. All that night she remained in the room, entirely ignorant of what was passing the while in every other part of the house—her own little bedroom included, as a matter of course.
About seven o’clock the next morning, after sitting up all night, she went back again wearily to the kitchen to begin her day’s work. Her mistress joined her there, and saluted her instantly with a scolding.
“You are the most careless, slovenly girl I ever met with.”said Madame Duparc.“Look at your dress; how can you expect to be decent on a Sunday, if you wear your best pair of pockets on weekdays?”

What Is an ETicket Ride?
An Eticket ride is an especially thrilling amusement park ride. The term now can refer to anything extraordinary. What distinguishes this from any other ride is the level of detail, technology, and entertainment value.
From 1955—1982, the Disneyland theme park in Anaheim, California, sold individual ride tickets with admission to the park. In 1972, simple rides like the King Arthur Carousel took Atickets, while Alice in Wonderland was Btickets. C and Dticket rides were a bit more advanced, including Peter Pan’s Flight, and Flight to the Moon. The biggest, best, and newest rides in the park were reserved for the 85 cent Eticket. In the 1970s, this list included Pirates of the Caribbean, and the Haunted Mansion. One interesting thing about the tickets is that Disney officials consistently referred to them as coupons, while guests insisted they should be called tickets. In 1982, the tickets—or coupons—were phased out of the Disneyland world, as the
park introduced a payoneprice admissio n.
As a replacement of sorts for the ticketing system, Disney introduced the FASTPASS® for some of the rides. Generally, the FASTPASS® is used on the most popular rides. Rumors often circulate to suggest that Disneyland is planning to stop using this system in favor of VIP tickets, outraging some fans.
From 1997—2004, the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida offered an experience called Eride Nights. This popular, although costly, extra allowed ticketholding visitors to stay in the park three hours after closing and ride some of the most popular attractions.
Today, although the tickets no longer officially exist, Disney fans still classify rides by their ticket status. In the 2007 announcement of expansions to the California Adventure Park, at least two new Eticket attractions were announced, the Little Mermaid ride and a testtrack racing ride based on the Pixar movie Cars. Recent criticisms of the reopened Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage suggest that some fans think the ride has been downgraded to a Dtick et from its former glory.
In popular culture, the phrase has been used to refer to an extraordinary experience. American astronaut Sally Ride famously referred to riding the space shuttle as an Eticket experience. The phrase has appeared in several movies. Fans of the Disney parks have also produced a ridebased fan magazine called The“E”Ticket since 1986. Although the term no longer applies to the Disney method of ride admission, it is still consistently popular as a popular phrase.

第四部分书面表达(满分25分)
61.阅读下面的短文,然后按照要求写一篇150词左右的英语短文。
Family values are principles that help to define us as human beings. These values are learned, usually passed down from generation to generation, but can also change over time, depending upon the circumstances in which families find themselves. They shape the way we behave; they help families stick together; and they give us our identity.
We always admire a person who treats the elderly with respect, or helps people in need, or is always honest with others. Such admirable behaviour is usually a direct result of the values that person was taught by his family.
These values or principles—respect, fairness and honesty among many others—also help hold the family together in times of trouble. When problems arise, the family is able to withstand them because they share the same idea about what is important. When family members feel pressure from the outside world, they know they can come into their family for a comforting connection.
Finally, family values make us who we are. When we talk about our personal character and what influences our decisions, we do so based on the values given to us by our family.
