A
I'm a 20-year-old boy, and the following is my story.
A month after I graduated from high school in August, 2007, I was coming home from swim practice in the training centre of the city and was involved in a car accident. I was so seriously injured that I was in a coma for more than two months at Prince Georges Hospital.
I suffered a lot from the experience of dying eight times during my coma and I couldn't open my mouth to talk or to communicate when I eventually came around. At that time, it seemed that walking was never going to happen again due to all the extreme injuries. Just like my body, my dreams were completely destroyed. But I was not going to let my injuries stop me from realizing my dreams.
After receiving a total of 15 operations and 36 blood transfusions, I had to make every great effort to learn to talk, eat, walk, shower, and live on my own again. When I was out of hospital, I still had to go to outpatient therapy in Waldorf, Maryland. After I spent a few months in a wheelchair, I took
baby steps to walk on my own. It was a miracle that I was able to walk again, but I still wanted to prove that
I could not only walk, but also run. When it came true, I wanted to get back into the pool again. After having
a few lung tests, I was able to go in the pool a little bit each week. After a few months of swim training, I began my freshman year at St. Mary's College of Maryland and then became a proud member of the swim team.
By telling my story, I want to make a positive influence on the world. I am just trying to live every day to the fullest and inspire other people never to give up their dreams no matter how bad a situation is to them.
I remember when I was still in my hospital bed, I would have my mom and dad push me round in my wheelchair to the other rooms to see the other patients and chat with them and their family members. I wanted to let them know that everything was going to be okay. Somehow, things would work out for the best.

My husband is not a big fan of kids, especially those without manners and those who misbehave.
One of our neighbors has 3 children and the oldest is Jacob. He was 5 at the time. For some reason, he took a liking to my husband. Every time he saw him, Jacob would wave, dash across the street and come to visit. Jacob would always ask so many questions. They would ride bikes together. They really seemed to get along well.
My husband had a sick cat that died at that time. It literally broke his heart and he grieved deeply for so long that even I was getting worried about him. He had no energy, cried and even quit his bike riding.
Five-year-old Jacob immediately noticed and asked me what was wrong. I told him about the loss of our cat and how my husband didn't want to ride, or visit his friends. Jacob listened carefully without a word and ran back home.
The next day, the door bell rang. There was Jacob and his mom with a huge plate of homemade chocolate cookies. On top of that, Jacob had a huge paper card in his hand. Jacob's mom explained, “Jacob came home yesterday and told me about your husband's situation. He wanted to do something immediately to cheer him up and asked me to help him make chocolate cookies with the material left at home.” Jacob also asked his mom to write down a message on a piece of paper so he could copy it in his own handwriting. He drew a picture of my husband and the cat on the card and signed his name.

I always felt sorry for the people in wheelchairs. Some people, old and weak, cannot get around by themselves. Others seem perfectly healthy, dressed in business suits. But whenever I saw someone in a wheelchair, I only saw a disability, not a person.
Then I fainted (昏倒) at Euro Disney due to low blood pressure. This was the first time I had ever fainted, and my parents insisted that I rest for a while after first aid. They said to me, “Never_mind!” I agreed to take it easy, but as I stepped toward the door, I saw my dad pushing a wheelchair in my direction! Feeling the color burn my cheeks,I asked him to wheel that thing right back to where he found it.
I could not believe this was happening to me. Wheelchairs were fine for other people but not for me, as my father wheeled me out into the main street, people immediately began to treat me differently.
Little kids ran in front of me, forcing my father to stop the wheelchair suddenly. Bitterness set in as I was thrown back and forth.
“Stupid kids! They have perfectly good legs. Why can't they watch where they are going?” I thought. People stared down at me, pity in their eyes. Then they would look away, maybe because they thought the sooner they forgot me the better.
“I'm just like you!”I wanted to scream. “The only difference is you've got legs, and I have wheels.”
People in wheelchairs are not stupid. They see every look and hear each word. Looking out at the faces, I finally understood: I was once just like them. I treated people in wheelchairs exactly the way they did not want to be treated. I realized it is some of us with two healthy legs who are truly disabled.

There's a saint(圣人) of animals. A saint of lost things. And now there's even a saint of computer geeks (电脑怪客). But have you ever heard of Amma, the saint of hugs?
Okay, so she hasn't made it into the Catholic Church's list yet, but we firmly believe that Mata Amritanandamayi, an Indian woman known as Amma, is as canon-worthy as anyone we've ever heard of. For over 30 years, Amma has been traveling the globe, giving hugs to everyone she meets, asking nothing in return. Though she considers herself spiritual, she does not advocate any particular religion — her message is love, pure and simple.
Sure, this may sound a lot like that Free Hugs guy in Australia, but we have a feeling he probably swiped his idea from Amma in the first place. After all, no matter how many hugs he's given in the last few years, he'll have a long way to go if he wants to catch up to her — to date,Amma has given over 26 million
hugs, or “darshan”,as she calls the experience.
So why does she do it? As Amma told BBC Ne w s, “Love is a very special, very uplifting feeling. That's what I'm trying to give people. It's like visiting a perfume factory. Consciously or unconsciously you will carry that fragrance (芬芳) around with you.”
Amma has built a worldwide network of followers who can't get enough of her hugs. One fan flew all the way across the globe from Australia to London to meet with her, and waited with hundreds of others to experience the pure joy of darshan. In each city she visits, Amma doles out (发放) hugs all day long, often until as late as two or three in the morning, until everyone's gotten a turn.
Though Amma receives no money for the experience, she is the founder of a charity called Mata Amritanandamayi Math. Many of her followers contribute money to the organization in appreciation of Amma's hugs. With those funds, the organization has built more than 36,000 houses. Or should we call them the houses that hugs built?

34.In what way are giving hugs and visiting a perfume factory similar, according to Amma?
A.They both spread something beautiful.
B.They are both very simple acts.
C.They are both some conscious or unconscious.
D.They both leave a lasting impression.
解析:选A推理判断题。
文章第四段Amma说,参观香水制造厂你有意无意中都会带着芬芳,而你给人拥抱时也传播了爱,两者都能给人带来美好的东西。

参考范文:
Dear Li Hua,
You're very kind to care about your classmates. Now I will give you some advice on how to protect your eyesight.
If you want to protect your eyesight, I advise you to let your eyes rest after a certain amount of time of work. You should do eye exercises every day, at least twice a day. You should go to the hospital to have an eyesight examination regularly, at least once a year. You mustn't read while lying in bed, in too bright or dark light or in a moving vehicle. You'd better not rub your eyes with your hands. And it is bad for your eyesight if you wear coloured glasses when it is not necessary. I hope my advice can help you and your classmates.
Yours,
Dr Helper
