Helping Mom with Chores
My mom works really hard to take care of our family. She has a job during the day, but when she gets home, she doesn't get to rest. There's always so much housework to do – cleaning, cooking, laundry, and lots of other chores. I try my best to help her as much as I can.
One of the most important jobs I do is keeping my room clean and tidy. Every morning before school, I make sure to make my bed neatly with the blankets pulled up. I don't just shove stuff under the bed or in my closet either. I actually put away my clothes, books, and toys where they belong. Having my room organized makes it easier for Mom when she vacuums and dusts in there.
After school, the first thing I do is take out the trash and recycling bins from our house. Our town picks them up twice a week, so it's my job to have them out on the curb in time. I also bring the empty bins back in from the street when they're done.
It's kind of smelly taking the trash out, but it's an important chore.
Another way I help Mom is by setting and clearing the table for meals. I make sure to use a placemat and napkin at my spot. After we're done eating, I'll carefully scrape any leftover food into the trash before taking my plate to the sink. I also wipe up any spills or crumbs from my area. It makes it much easier for Mom to just have to wash the dishes.
On weekends, one of my jobs is helping with laundry. I go around collecting all the dirty clothes, towels, and bedsheets from everyone's rooms and the bathrooms. Then I sort them into piles by colors – whites, darks, and lights. Mom does the actually washing, but I help by neatly folding the clean clothes and putting them into baskets. My favorite is folding the warm towels right out of the dryer!
Mom is always reminding me that many hands make light work. Even though I'm just a kid, there are lots of little chores I can do to help out around the house. Sometimes it doesn't seem fair that I have to do work when my friends just get to play. But then I remember how hard Mom works every single day for our family. Helping with chores is just one small way I can make her proud and show her how much I appreciate everything she does.
Plus, I get a small allowance each week for all my contributions! I'm saving up to buy a new bike, so I try my best to be really responsible with my housework. It feels good to be helpful and pitch in. After all, we're a team and we all need to pull together. I just hope when I grow up, my own kids will be as cooperative as I am!

I Love Helping My Mom with Chores
My mom works really hard every single day. She wakes up early to get my brother and me ready for school. She makes us a yummy breakfast like eggs, pancakes, or oatmeal. Then she packs our lunches so we can eat healthy food at school. After she takes us to school, she goes to her job as a nurse at the hospital. She takes care of sick people all day long! When she gets home in the evening, she is very tired but she still has a lot of work to do at home.
That's why I always try my best to help her with the household chores. I don't mind pitching in because I know it makes her life a little bit easier. Plus, I feel good when I lend a hand! My favorite chore is doing the laundry. I like putting the clothes in the washer and adding the soap. The best part is
moving the wet clothes to the dryer when the cycle is done. I feel like a big kid getting to use those big machines!
Sometimes, I help my mom by cleaning up the living room. I pick up any toys, books, or other things that are laying around. Then I vacuum the carpet to suck up all the dirt, crumbs, and pet hair. Our dog Rufus sheds a lot so there's always plenty of fur to vacuum up. After vacuuming, I use the dust spray to wipe down the TV stand, end tables, and other surfaces. Mom says I do a great job making the room look neat and fresh.
In the kitchen, I'm a pro at loading and unloading the dishwasher. I have to be careful with the sharp knives and other breakable items, but everything else is easy. First, I scrape the leftover food off plates and bowls into the trash can. Then I neatly arrange all the dirty dishes, cups, and utensils in the racks. After Mom runs the dishwasher, I put away the clean dishes in the right cabinets. It's like a big puzzle making sure everything fits back in its spot!
My least favorite chore is taking out the smelly trash and recycling bins. But I don't complain because I know it's an important job. We make a lot of trash in our house between all the food, packaging, and other garbage. If no one took out the bins, they would quickly get overstuffed and gross. So I haul the
big plastic bins out to the curb once a week, holding my nose the whole time. It's no fun, but somebody has to do it!
Helping my mom feels fantastic because I know I'm being a good son and making her proud. She works so hard for our family, so it's only right that I pitch in around the house too.
