13、Sometimes people call each other “scared-cat”. But have you ever thought about this expression? When a cat is frightened, its heart starts beating faster, its muscles get tense and there are changes in the chemicals in its bloodstream. Although t he cat doesn’t realize this, its body is getting ready for action. If the danger continues, the animal will do one of two things. It will protect itself or it will run away as fast as it can.
Something like this also happens to people. When we are excited, angry or scared by other feelings, our bodies go through many physical changes. Our hearts beat faster and our muscles get tense. All of these changes make us more alert(警醒)and ready to react(反应). We, too, get ready to defend(防御;保护)ourselves or run.
Human beings, however, have a problem that animals never face. If we give way to our feelings and let them take over(接管), we can get into trouble. Have you ever said something in anger, or hit somebody and regretted it later? Have you ever shouted at a teacher, told somebody you were lonely, or said you were in love, and then wished later you had kept your mouth shut? It isn’t always clever to express your feelings freely.
Does this mean that it’s smarter always to hide our feelings? No! If you keep feelings of anger, sadn ess hidden inside, your body stays tense. Physical illness can develop. It can actually be bad for your health. (It isn’t good to keep pleasant feelings inside, either; all feelings need to be expressed)
Feelings that you keep inside don’t just go away. It’s as if you bought some bananas and put them in a cupboard. You might not be able to see them, but before long you’d smell them. And if you opened the cupboard, maybe you’d see little fruit flies flying all over them. They are bad.
You can try to treat feelings as if they were bananas in the cupboard. You can hide them and you can pretend they don’t exist(存在), but they’ll still be around. And at last you’ll have to deal with them just like those bananas.

18、Mark began to introduce the guest speaker to the listeners, but then stopped for a while. He had forgotten her name.
Barbara hid her valuable things when she went on vacation. When she came back, she couldn’t remember where she’d put them.
Perhaps you’ve had such experiences like these. Most people have. But most of them haven’t realized that they have a memory problem. Neither do they know a simple but important fact: Memory can be improved. If you’ll just accept that, the following will show you how.
First, relax. If you are over worried about remembering something, you’ll forget it. If you keep telling yourself that your memory is bad, your mind will come to believe it and you won’t remember things. When you forget something, don’t follow up with sayings like “Oh,my God! I always forget things!” Such words will have a bad result on you and
your memory.
But relaxing isn’t enough. To improve your memory, you’ll need to take an active role. Like your body, your memory can be made strong through exercise. Look for opportunities to exercise your memory. For example,if you’re learning a language, try to actively remember a lot of new words.
If you don’t take notice of things actively, you won’t remember them. So,you can make pictures of what you see in your mind every day. For example, don’t just put your keys down! If you want to find them again, make a mind picture of the place where you’re putting them.

The summer holiday is coming. Your classmates are talking about what to do during the holiday.
Some are going out for travelling with their families. Of course they will spend more money. Some are going to play ball games with their classmates. Though it's good for health, it's not my favourite.
I think it's much better to stay at home. I can do many things as I like, such as reading, watching TV and helping my parents with the housework. In this way I can not only increase my knowledge but also do something for my parents.。
