How to celebrate Chinese New Year in my Hometown
On our vast land stand 56 nations whose customs vary from each other. Especially for our Chinese New year, even within one nation there are varieties of ways to celebrate it. Here comes the process of celebration in my hometown.
By and large, there are three periods during the celebration including the New Year's Eve, the beginning of the New Year and the lunar January. On New Year's Eve, the first thing is the family reunion dinner.With people staying together, it denotes the ending of the last year. Then they will stay up until midnight when the fireworks are set off to usher in a new year. Next, at the beginning of the New Year, people will always get up early to stick the Spring Festival couplets and paper-cuts to walls and windows which creates a festival atmosphere. Then follows by paying New Year's call when people are given to treating others to a delicious food or even presenting red packets. And the remaining days of the lunar January are also filled with colorful activities. For example, Relatives will pay visits to each other when children are supposed to get gift money from their grandparents or other kinfolks. Finally, the Lantern Festival is for the most part regarded as the ending of the New Year when a campfire party is held to expel the monster from the town.
