Yellow Robot deliver snacks to your home
A robot makes its way back to a supermarket after making a delivery during a demonstration in Beijing.
Along a street on the outer edges of Beijing, a yellow and black cube about the size of a small washing machine moves leisurely to its destination. This “little yellow horse” is a delivery robot, transporting daily essentials like drinks, fruit and snacks from the local store to the residents. Equipped with GPS system, cameras and radar, the robot is seen by its creator as the future of logistics(物流) in China.
“The weak point is that it can't deliver directly to the door like a human.” said one customer, who does not live on the ground floor. “But it is still quite p ractical. The robot delivers relatively quickly.”
The robot takes off for Chinese customers' love of cashless payments and smartphone shopping. China is the world's biggest online shopping market with more than half of its population making at least one smartphone purchase per month, according to professional services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers. Whether buying electronics, toilet paper or clothes, Chinese customers are used to simply tapping a button on their smartphone and getting a home delivery.
To get a delivery via the “little yellow horse”, customers select the desired products, tap in the address and pay via their phone. Then, the supermarket staff place the items in the robot.
Liu Zhiyong, founder and CEO of Zhen Robotics, which manufactures the robot, sees a bright future for his creation. “At the moment, there are 100 million packages delivered every day in China. It will be one billion in the future,” Liu said. “ There will not be enough humans to make the deliveries. We need more and more robots to fill this gap and reduce costs.” These costs are especially high in the last kilometer of a delivery.

(2)It can't deliver directly to the door like a human.
(3)Because of Chinese customers' love of cashless payments and smartphone shopping./Because Chinese customers love cashless payments and smartphone shopping.
(4)Invents; Creates; Produces;(形式不对减一分)
(5)It is very helpful. Because the robot can replace humans to make the delivers and the robot can reduce costs.
根据第二段中的“Equipped with GPS system, camer as and radar, the robot is seen by its creator as the future of logistics(物流) in China.”
根据第三段中的“‘The weak point is that it can't deliver directly to the door like a human.’said one customer, who does not live on the ground floor.” It can't deliver directly to the door like a human。
根据第四段中的“The robot takes off for Chinese customers' love of cashless payments and smartphone shopping.” Because of Chinese customers' love of cashless payments and smartphone shopping./Because Chinese customers love cashless payments and smartphone shopping。
上文“Liu Zhiyong, founder and CEO of Zhen Robotics”甄机器人创始人兼CEO刘志勇,由此推断出下文which manufactures the robot, sees a bright future for his creation.
When was the last time you sat on a park bench(凳子)? Did you stay for long? A new kind of park benches will limit the amount of time you can sit there. If you don't get up in time, it could be very painful: there are many sharp spikes (钉子) on the part that you sit on!
Visitors who want a rest on the bench need to put a coin in a machine next to it. Once the money was accepted, the spikes disappear into the bench. Then visitors can sit down comfortably, but only for half an hour. When the time's up, the spikes slowly start moving up again. It doesn't hurt at first, but after a minute, they start coming up even more quickly. They aren't long enough to cause serious hurt, but they do cause pain, as tests have shown. But why have they been installed (安装)?
"Our public park is very popular in summer," a spokesperson for the park explained. "But with all the thousands of people who visit the park, there aren't enough benches for everyone. We want to make sure that the benches are shared by more visitors, and to stop people taking a bench and staying there all day. Installing spikes seems to be the fairest way of stopping people doing this."
(1)How is the new kind of park bench different from other benches?
(2)What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
(3)Why are the new benches installed?
(4)The passage says, "Installing spikes seems to be the fairest way of stopping people doing this." Do you agree with this? Please state your reasons.
(1)It can limit the amount of time people sit on it (with sharp spikes). / If you don't get up from it in limited time, it could make you painful./ There are many sharp spikes on it to limit the amount of time people sit on it.
(2)It's mainly about how the new kind of benches work.
(3)They're installed to solve the problem that some people take a bench too long and others can't share it.
(4)Yes. If people are asked to pay for benches, they will not take it too long when they don't really need it. Thus, every visitor will have the chance to share it. / No. Benches in parks should be free to visitors. The park can build more benches to solve its problem instead of limiting the time when visitors have a rest on benches.
根据第一段中的“If you don’t get up in time, it could be very painful: there are many sharp spikes on the part that you sit on!”
It can limit the amount of time people sit on it (with sharp spikes). / If you don’t get up from it in limited time, it could make you painful./There are many sharp spikes on it to limit the amount of time people sit on it.。
根据第二段中的“Visitors who want a rest on the bench need to put a coin in a machine next to it. Once the money was accepted, the spikes disappear into the bench. Then visitors can sit down comfortably, but only for half an hour. When the time’s up, the spikes slowly start moving up again.”
It’s mainly about how the new kind of benches work.。
根据第三段中的“We want to make sure that the be nches are shared by more visitors, and to stop people taking a bench and staying there all day.”
They’re installed to solve the problem that some people take a bench too long and ot hers can’t share it.。
Yes. If people are asked to pay for benches, they will not take it too long when they don’t really need it. Thus, every visitor will have the chance to share it. /No. Benches in parks should be free to visitors. The park can build more benches to solve its problem instead of limiting the time when visitors have a rest on benches.。

The autumn wind woke me up from my dream. I took a deep breath and looked around. Suddenly I saw two people approaching me. As there was no one else in the park, they caught my attention immediately.
The two people were getting closer and I heard them laughing. At first, this laugh made me annoyed as if they had broken my unity with this park and disturbed my thoughts. But all of a sudden, I noticed the age of them — they were old. I could not clearly identify their age, but the woman looked as old as my grandmother. She had grey hair, blue eyes, and a smile on her face. And all the time she was looking at HIM...
"Jim, I think we should change the park. It's the same every Saturday. You know..." "Sus! Hug me."— that was all he said. He looked at her, smiled and gave her a hug.
At this very moment, I saw an old but strong man who knew his wife, and no matter how often she could be complaining, he loved her! I imagined the many things they might go through together — so many hardships that might make them cry, all the problems that they might be experiencing right now and the probability that one of them would outlive the other. And the one that outlives will think the life they spent together was the most beautiful period of their life.
They left, and I was sitting on my bench, shocked, and I had a special feeling in my heart. This feeling was hope! The old couple with all the complaints and tons of mistakes behind their backs made me realize that it was happiness that mattered in life. Eventually, all people would get old and die, and what made a difference was the person you had dedicated your life to. I made a wish — waking up one day, being old and feeling proud of being together with the person I loved to overcome all the obstacles ( 障碍) and fight for happiness.
(1)Why did the author become angry at the old couple's laugh? (no more than 15 words) (2)Why did the old couple look at each other all the time? (no more than 10 words)
(3)What was the author doing at that moment in Paragraph 4? (no more than 20 words) (4)What does the underlined word "dedicated" mean in the last paragraph? (1 word)
(5)How do you like the old couple? What can you learn from the passage? Please express it in your own words. (no more than 20 words)
(1)Because it had broken his unity with the park and disturbed his thoughts.
(2)Because they loved each other deeply.
(3)The author was wondering what made the old couple love each other so much/The author was imagining what the old couple might have gone through in life and made them love each other deeply.
(4)Devoted/ Give entirely.
(5)I think they are admirable/ encouraging/ a good example for us!We should cherish people who love us and fight for happiness with them together.
At first, this laugh made me annoyed as if they had
broken my unity with this park and disturbed my thoughts.”
Because it had broken his unity with the park and disturbed his thoughts.。
根据第四段中的“At this very moment, I saw an old but strong man who knew his wife, and no matter how often she could be complaining, he loved her!”
Because they loved each other deeply.。
根据第四段中的“I imagined the many things they might go through together — so many hardships that might make them cry, all the problems that they might be experiencing right now and the probability that one of them would outlive the other.”
The author was wondering what made the old couple love each other so much.或The author was imagining what the old couple might have gone through in life and made them love each other deeply.
根据上文“Eventually, all people would get old and die, and what made a difference was the person you had”可知最终,所有的人都会变老并死去,而真正起作用的是和你相伴一生的人,你为之奉献一生的人。
I think they are admirable/ encouraging/ a good example for us!(我认为他们是值得钦佩的/鼓舞的/为我们树立了一个好榜样!)或We should cherish people who love us and fight for happiness with them together.(我们应该珍惜爱我们的人,和他们一起为幸福而奋斗。
)

If you said you were suffering from "burnout" in the early 1970s, you might have raised some eyebrows.
At the time, the term was informally to describe the side effects that heavy drug users experienced.
However, in 1974, a German-American psychologist Herbert Freudenberger found the volunteers at his clinic were struggling, too: their work was tough, and many were lacking in motivation. Freudenberger defined this condition as a state of extreme tiredness caused by constant overwork-and borrowed the term "burnout" to describe it.
Late last month, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the problem will be recognized as a syndrome (综合征) "resulting from workplace stress that has not been successfully managed."
Feeling the burn so how can you tell if you're almost burned out?
"A lot of the signs and symptoms of pre-burnout would be very similar to depression," says
Siobhan Murray, a psychotherapist. She suggests looking out for bad habits, such as increased alcohol consumption and relying on sugar to get you through the day. Also watch out for feelings of tiredness that won't go away or not having the energy to exercise or go for a walk. As soon as you begin to feel this way, Murray advises going to see your doctor. "Depression and pre-burnout are very similar. But it is still classified as an occupational phenomenon which is still best tackled by making lifestyle changes."
And how do you know if you're really on the edge of burnout? "Stress is really important, and anxiety is what motivates us to do well," says Murray. "It's when we're continually exposed to stress and anxiety that it starts to turn into burnout."
You're pre-burnout: What's next?
"Sometimes they feel the need to be too perfect so they're having to work very hard to cover up that they're not quite as good as everyone thinks." Another therapist Walker says.
However, sometimes the work environment is the problem. According to a 2018 study of 7,500 US workers, burnout comes from unfair treatment at work, an unmanageable workload and not knowing what a person's role should involve. Workers were also stressed out by a lack of support from their manager and punreasonable time pressure.
Whatever the cause of your burnout, Murray's top tip is to be kind to yourself.
In Murray's experience, a key driver of burnout is today's culture of wanting it all. Often it's just not possible to have a healthy social life and complete a big project at the same time. She says it's vital to prioritize and not expect too much of yourself; when others seem like the perfect boss, parent and friend all at the same time, they're probably misleading us.
If you feel that you might be close to joining the burnout club, take a step back, figure out what's going wrong-and let yourself off the hook.
lack/overuse;imperfect;provide/offer /afford;avoiding;kind
故填abuse/addiction。
(3)原文第三段a state of extreme tiredness caused by constant overwork可知,是指人们因为不断超负荷工作而劳累,而本题所填空在volunteers前,应该是形容词,因此讲tiredness转换为tired/
exhausted。
故填tired/exhausted。
(4)原文第四段最后一行stress that has not been successfully managed可知,是指没能处理好压力,而本题所填空应该是名词,固定搭配fail to do表示未能做成某事,此处转换为名词failure。
故填failure。
(5)原文第六段第一行be very similar to depression可知,burnout和depression很相似,而所填空应该是名词,固定搭配share similarities with ……
(6)原文第六段第三行需要酒精get you through the day 和not having the energy可知,觉得自己没有精力,或者是精力被过度消耗,所填空为名词,故填lack或overuse。
(8)原文倒数第四段the work environment is the problem和后面具体的unfair treatment at work, an unmanageable workload and not knowing what a person's role should involve可知,公司没能提供有利的工作环境,所填空应该是动词,故填provide/offer /afford。
(10)原文倒数第三段Murray建议要be kind to yourself,故填kind。
The environmental group Heal the Bay organized a beach clean-up. And I was one of the volunteers. We went to Venice Beach to clean up the trash.
At first glance, the beach didn't look dirty at all. But then I saw a Styrofoam(泡沫)cup half buried in the sand on the beach. I pulled hard and finally got it out. As we moved farther, we found pieces of Styrofoam spread all over the sand. The Heal the Bay representative had told us that these little pieces of Styrofoam and other small pieces of plastic are what actually harm sea life most. Sea animals eat the plastic. After eating it, they think they are full. As a result, they can die of starvation as they are cheated by their feeling and don't think they need to eat any food. We kept on picking up the trash. Then I saw someone with a full Heal the Bay trash bag and I went to see what was inside. When I opened the trash bag, I found everything from a pair of old jeans and a brown belt to headphones and some plastic bags. It made me very angry with the people who left their things behind without thinking what effects they might have on the ocean.
It is really important to protect the ocean. The ocean covers 70 percent of the Earth's surface. A clean ocean not only helps animals in the ocean survive but also helps us survive.
By noon, the sun was shining and the temperature was rising. The volunteers that had spread out across Venice Beach were coming back to throw the trash they had collected into the truck. I could not believe how much trash there was. All together we collected more than 135 bags of trash. I do hope that next time people go to the beach, they will stop littering.
(1)Why did the environmental group go to Venice Beach? (No more than 6 words)
(2)What does the underlined word "starvation" in Paragraph 2 mean in English?(1 word) (3)How did the author feel seeing the trash in that volunteer's trash bag according to Paragraph 3?(No more than 8 words)
(4)How much trash did the volunteer collect all together that day? (No more than 8 words) (5)What do you think of throwing plastic trash on the beach? And why? (No more than 25 words)
(1)To clean up the trash.
(2)Hunger
(3)He/She felt very angry.
(4)They collected more than 135bags of trash.
(5)It is a very bad habit, because trash thrown on the beach may end up in the sea, resulting in the death of many sea creatures.
根据第一段中的“We went to Venice Beach to clean up the trash. ”可知环我们去了威尼斯海滩清理垃圾。
所以答案为To clean up the trash。
根据第二段中的“Sea animals eat the plastic. After eating it, they think they are full. As a result, they can die of starvation as they are cheated by their feeling and don't think they need to eat any food. ”可知海洋动物吃了塑料。
吃完之后,他们认为他们已经吃饱了。
结果,因为他们会被不必吃任何食物的感觉所欺骗并觉得自己不需要吃任何东西而死于"starvation"。
根据上下文,可知这里的starvation意思是"饥饿",故答案为Hunger。
(3)考查细节理解。
根据第三段中的“It made me very angry with the people who left their things behind without thinking what effects they might have on the ocean. ”可知作者在看清楚袋子里的内容之后,对于那些没想过他们可能会对海洋有什么影响就丢垃圾的人感到很生气。
所以答案为He/ She felt very angry.

If there is one word to describe the progress made in the last 100 years, it's connectedness. From the telephone to the radio to the TV to the Internet, we have found ways to bring us all closer together, enabling, constant worldly access.
I don't think I need to highlight the benefits of all this. But the downsides are also beginning to show. Beyond the current talk about privacy and data collection, there is perhaps an even more detrimental side-effect here: We now live in a world where we're connected to everything except ourselves. According to Pascal, we fear the silence of existence, and we dread boredom and instead choose aimless distraction and use the noise of the world to block out the discomfort of dealing with ourselves.
However, we ignore the fact that never facing ourselves is why we feel lonely an anxious in spite of being so intimately connected to everything else around us.
Fortunately, there is a solution. The only way to avoid being ruined by this is to face it. It's to let the boredom take you where it wants so you can deal with whatever it is that is really going on with your sense of self. That's when you'll hear yourself think, and learn to engage the parts of you that are masked by distraction.
The beauty of this is that, once you cross that initial barrier, you realize that being alone isn't so bad. Boredom can provide its own stimulation.
When you surround yourself with moments of solitude and stillness, you become intimately familiar with your environment in a way that forced stimulation doesn't allow. The world becomes richer, the layers start to peel back, and you see things for what they really are, in all their wholeness, in all their contradictions, and in all their unfamiliarity.
You learn that there are things you are capable of paying attention to than just what makes the most noise on the surface. Just because a quiet room doesn't scream with excitement like the idea of immersing yourself in a movie or a TV show doesn't mean there isn't depth to explore there.
Sometimes, the direction that this solitude leads you in can be unpleasant, especially when it comes to introspection (内省)—your thoughts and your feelings, your doubts and your hopes—but in the long term, it's far more pleasant than running away from it all without even realizing what you are.
Being alone and connecting inwardly is a skill nobody ever teaches us. That's ironic because it's more important than most of the ones they do.
Solitude may not be the solution to everything, but it certainly is a start.
blame;solution(s);Instead/Rather/Actually;comprehensive/thorough/ overall;exploring;loneliness
But the downsides are also beginning to show. Beyond the current talk about privacy and data collection, there is perhaps an even more detrimental side-effect here: We now live in a world where we're connected to everything except ourselves.“可知,让人们变得更近的科技最近展示出了缺点,那就是我们生活在一个除了和自己,我们和一切都有联系的世界。
填Although/Though/While。
We now live in a world where we're con nected to everything except ourselves“可知我们生活在这样的一个世界,除了自己我们和一切都有联系,即我们没能与自己联系,fail to do sth,固定短语,"没能做某事"。
根据第二段中的”we fear the silence of existence“可知我们害怕独处。
此处考查用a__________ state of existence替换silence of existence,通过分析可知空格处应填形容词,a silent/quiet state of existence=silence of existence(独处)。
故填silent/quiet。
根据第二段中的”we dread boredom and instead choose aimless distraction and use the noise of the world to block out the discomfort of dealing with ourselves.“可知我们害怕无聊,取而代之,我们选择漫无目的的分散注意力,用世界的噪音
We feel so uncomfortable when dealing with ourselves that we __________ from it all我们在面对自己时感到如此不舒适以至于我们想要躲避/逃离/退缩,此处是句子谓语动词,根据feel判断为一般现在时,主语是we,故用动词原形,填escape/ hide/ shrink/ withdraw。
However, we ignore the fact that never facing ourselves is why we feel lonely an anxious“可知,我们却忽略了事实,那就是从未面对过自己是我们感到孤独和焦虑的原因。
never facing ourselves is to ________ for our feeling lonely and anxious.
此处用be to blame for”对……
Fortunately, there is a solution.“也有提示,根据the判断此处填名词。
故填solution(s)。
根据第五段中的”you realize that being alone isn't so bad. Boredom can provide its own stimulation.“可知你会意识到孤独并没有那么糟糕,无聊会提供它自己的刺激。
Being alone isn't so bad. __________ , you'll be stimulated by boredom.
The world becomes richer, the layers start to peel back, and you see things for what they really are, in all their wholeness, in all their contradictions, and in all their unfamiliarity.“可知独处时世界变得丰富,层次开始剥落,你看到事物的本质,它们的全部,它们的矛盾处,和它们的陌生处,即你对看到的事物有更全透彻的理解。
再结合名词views判断此处应填形容词,故填comprehensive/thorough/ overall。
Just because a quiet room doesn't scream with excitement like the idea of immersing yourself in a movie or a TV show doesn't mean there isn't depth to explore there.“可知,仅仅因为一个安静的房间不会让你兴奋的尖叫,就像你沉浸在一场精彩的电影或电视节目一样,这并不意味着没有深度去探索,即安静的环境可以让人集中精力去深度探索。
Solitude is the first step you should take to save yourself from being ruined by ________ and anxiety.“可知独处是你避免被孤独和焦虑毁掉所采取的第一步,可以总结本文,又根据and anxiety可知空格处应填名词。
When we were growing up in our grandparents' home, Jack, my grandfather, was always in his room sitting in the chair and listening to the radio. The voices speaking from the metal box day and night, taught us that there was a larger world outside. He would roll the black dial (刻度盘)。
