And nowadays, as generally understood, the American dream means the individual opportunity that exists in America. The dream is a national ethos of the United States, a set of ideals in which freedom includes the opportunity for prosperity and success, and an upward social mobility for people, achieved through hard work in a society with few barriers. At the same time, in another country, president Xi Jinping indicated that the greatest Chinese dream is the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation, during a speech at the National Museum’s exhibit. Many scholars and journalists have interpreted Mr. Xi’s words to mean that the Chinese dream is a collective vision, which contrasts with the American dream which is an individual one. However, in my point of view, both dreams have similar and different elements based on each nation’s unique circumstances. Different cultures have cultivated different values, beliefs, and different political cultures, which cannot be judged with a single meta-narrative (Li). In fact, their differences make it more possible for the American dream and the Chinese dream to coexist.A dream often starts from the pursuit of beautiful things and the desire for freedom from suffering. Because of differences in political systems, history and national strength, two dreams are also different. China is the one of the greatest developing countries in the world. 170 years ago, Japan launched massive aggression against China. Due to this aggression, Chinese people soon developed a strong awareness of saving the nation and ensuring its survival. What is more, China became a country with high self-esteem. And nowadays, the Chinese people are pursuing a national revival. As Wasserstrom said, “And he encourages the state media to promulgate the idea that the Chinese dream —a grand process of national resurgence that will return China to the position of global centrality it enjoyed before a century of humiliation at the hands of West, and Japan, between 1842 and 1949 — is about to be realized” (Wasserstrom). As a result, the Chinese dream is first of all a collective concept that a rich country and strong army are paramount.On the contrary, the American dream emerged in the Colonial Period. Many people immigrated to America for a better life. It has unique natural resources, geographical environment, and progressive ideas of equality and liberty. So the main dream for the nation is making sure people living in the country are rich and happy enough. For decades, the American dream has inspired individual creativity and positivity and has influenced the whole world a lot. What is more, the United States is also the richest and strongest country in the world. Also there are similarities between the Chinese dream and the American dream. The similarities lie in the common aspirations for a better life. While both dreams hope for success, the American dream stresses the spirit of freedom, social mobility and individual wealth but the Chinese dream pinpoints nation’ s prosperity, unity and stability.In 21st century, every country is in a critical historical period of the coexist of opportunities and challenges. Because of the growth of capitalism and globalization, all the countries connect to each other much better and have many opportunities for economic benefits. Also, the differences between culture and standard of living make every country face to the challenges of living qualities and country strength. It is true that capitalist ideology still holds a powerful influence over many people, like the American dream that if you work hard, you can raise your standard of living. Marche (269) says, “Work hard and stay late and you get to be a banker or doctor; drop out of high school or start using drugs and you’ll end up at McDonald’s.”But this idea is beginning to crack under the pressure of capitalism and the class system. As he says, “It is obvious that a class system has arrived in America – a recent study of the thirty- four countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development found that only Italy and Great Britain have less social mobility” (Marche 267). The American dream has now turned into a nightmare. While CEO salaries and corporate profits soar, workers are working harder and faster for less pay and benefits. Nowadays, the forces of inequality are simply too powerful and it has become the biggest challenge faced by the United States.As a developing country, China is facing much more challenges. Mr. Xi insists confidentially that the Chinese dream will satisfy not just his aspiration but those of “each Chinese person”. As Wasserstrom said, “However, it cannot hide the fact that China’s leaders continue to be plagued by nightmares not unlike those that haunted them in1989. Under Mr. Xi the party has carried out a fierce crackdown aimed at limiting dissent, often described the hardest since 1989.”It has also tightened control over the press and social media. What ismore, Mr. Xi saysthat the Chinese dream is to keep the economy growing. In the last three decades, china has lifted600million people out of poverty. To complete this, China has developed a lot of industries. As a result, the pollution strongly influenced people’s life nowadays. The air pollution, water pollution and some other pollution are all harmful to people’s health. As Wasserstrom said:Perhaps the most urgent fear is this: a sense among even those Chinese whose living standards have soared that frantic development has come at too high a price. Never in history have the promise and peril of head-spinning modernization been so apparent within the space of a single lifetime. Acountry where the authorities call the air in the capital “fine” on days when nearby skyscrapers are completely shrouded from view, where waterways are suddenly and inexplicably clogged by enormous numbers of pig carcasses, where once-revered elders live in rural poverty and isolation — this is the stuff of nightmares (Wasserstrom).I think it will take China much more time and money to deal with these problems.In addition, China and America are both facing some similar problems, especially some social issues like healthcare, education, housing and retirement. For example, healthcare is very important for both countries. They all need to pay more attention on keeping people away from suffering of diseases. In addition, both countries should ensure that everyone can receive high education. What is more, the high price of houses and the needs of the elderly for financial support during retirement are also big challenges for China and America to deal with. Last but not least, economic transformation, innovations, political reform and nation services are also main problems for all the countries in the world.I am an international student. So both the Chinese dream and the Americandream mean a lot to my family. I want to be an engineer when I finish my study in the college. As Chinese, I prefer contributing my talent to the nation’s prosperity than working for my own wealth. During my study abroad in America, I have found the United States an open country. The country provides the same opportunity to everyone in order to make people live a life with high quality. I think highly of the advantages of the American dream.Obviously, the Chinese dream is different from the American dreamand both countries are facing many challenges, but it does not necessarily lead to an inevitable clash between these two dreams or even these two states and cultures. It is inappropriate to argue over which dream is better. Without doubt, the Chinese dream is still a new concept that few of us are exactly aware of. However, I believed the American dream is farther more familiar to us. So I want to refer to the American dream before I introduce the Chinese dream.3 I will introduce the American dream from 5 parts:the origin,the definition,successful examples,development and the conditions.4Then, let’s start from the first part. Before the plane invented ,millions of immigrants were impressed by the statue of Liberty standing in front of New York Harbor.5 Liberty, the most charming word ever since we break the durance of feudal society, was considered as the essence of the American spirit.Liberty, which I think show common to the American Dream, means everyone has the right to choose the life he/she wants by ones effort.6 Well,what’s the American dream means. Or in another word,what’s the definition of the American dram. In short, American Dream is something about freedom ,liberty and prosperity. Generally speaking, in most Chinese mind ,It means that American are entitled to achieve their dreams by bringing their potential ,such as industriousness ,bravery, originality, determination and so on, into full play, instead of relying on a particular social class or assistance from others. They believed that they can achieve they dream no matter what their jobs are or what position they in. Job hunters, worker, soldiers, or farmers.7 People believed in the American dream because there are many successful examples continually appeared since the American dream has been risen.9 The term “American Dream” is used in many ways, thus it has different specific meanings in different years. But it essentially is an idea that anyone in the US can succeed through hard work and has the potential to lead a happy, successful life. In this way This idea hasn’t changes throughout time therefore has stayed the same now and then.10/11Benefit from the American dream, the US has the highest GDP in the word and the most powerful military force, the latest technology as well.11 In order to protect the availability of the American dream, American founded a lot of systems to protect people’s right to life and people’s right to development.13Going back to the Chinese dream I said earlier, the introduction of the Chinese dream will divided into three parts:the definition,the origin and the development.14 Xi jinping, firstly defined the Chinese dream in exhibition of The Road To Rejuvenation :What is the the Chinese nation's great dream since the modern times is to realize the great revival, which must be able to achieve.Expound :People sharing the opportunity to live a brilliant life.15 The struggle for industrialization and modernization came into being under the situation that China invaded by world powers.In order to save the nation from extinction,Chinese managed to make the country rich and powerful16 The basis of realizing the Chinese dream is to bring about national independence and people liberation.Finally,the establishment of the People's Republic of China created the political conditions of implementation.19Both are about the willing that to live a better life.20However,there are also many differences between the Chinese dream and the American dream in many aspects as we showed before.For examples,their definitions,their origins,the conditions that protect people’s right to achieve the dream and the purposes,or in another word,the reason why people put forward these concepts.21Personally speaking,the Chinese dream is about the struggle and success of the whole nation.It means rejuvenating the country through the road of socialism with Chinese characteristic.However,the American dream is about personal struggle and success.It means fully realize individual self value through your personal effort.。

And through various media% we are not unfamiliar with the terms- 'the American dream' and 'the Chinese dream'. Usually, when we talk about the one, we may associate it with the other. Sincerely, 1 once had an ambiguous idea about those two dreams. However, as the United States has provoked a new round of trade disputes against China during these years, it is really important for a Chinese, especially a young Chinese, to know more about the Chinese dream and the American dream. After searching and reading several materials, now, have my own way to understand the dreams of two big powers.The Chinese dream in nature J suppose, is like the lasting torch when we connect dots of the Chinese historical events. Since 1840. due to the strong aggression from the Western powers^ China was tipped from a formidable country of the world to a weak semi-colonial and semi-feudal country. During 109 suffering years of humiliation^ hundreds of outstanding Chinese, who held the strong faith to safeguard their national independence, stood out. The Chinese dream during this period that to pursue the national independence motivated and encouraged the Chinese people to move on and say no to give up. With the Gold Rush and the success in WW1, huge booms were made in American economy. The following Depression broke that gaudy dream. Despite economic recoveries then, with the great gap between the poor and the rich, the American dream seems more like a daydream nowadays, as it’s almost impossible for one to achieve the vertical social upward mobility unless you .The American dream, just like fireworks, that once shone brilliantly, has now gradually lost its splendor.In other sense, the Chinese dream focuses more on common ideals, while the American dream more on personal ideals. For, the Chinese advocate collectivism mainly because the Chinese, once experiencing the national sufferings, know that individuals are closely connected with rises and falls of the whole nation. By contrast, the American possess theconcept of individualism out of its long history of immigration and moving west. That difference shows in that, nowadays, China goes along a peaceful path of socialism while American goes along a path of capitalism with the hegemonism. It is also shows in that when China proposed the idea of a community of shared future, America set the idea of “American Frist” policies and interfered in other country’s affairs. In such sense, I suppose, the Chinese dream is Noach’s Ark while the American is Thanos. With more Hollywood films creating the plot that the American saved the whole world, Thanos snaps his finger.Last but not least, in political level and social effects, if the Chinse dream is to Y the American dream is to T. In the force equilibrium of physics, Y is in equilibrium while T is imbalanced. The American dream is rooted in American politics. However, the capital power in America is so strong that it affects the key political power. Due to this fact, it's hard for the government to solve the distribution of the poor and the rich. About 400 million Americans are still in poverty and the American dream for them is 'nonsense'. By contrast as China is leaded by Chinese Communist Party, the political power is stronger and hard to be interfered. China has lifted about 7 hundred million people out of poverty, which amazed the whole world.Taking all mentioned into consideration, we can interestingly find that the Chinese dream is to the torch, Noah's ark and Y while the American dream is to the fireworks, Thanos and T in their respective substances, ideals and political and social levels. As a Chinese, we should be more confident and hopeful of our Chinese dream after comparing and contrasting it with the American dream. Moreover, the Chinse dream can be fulfilled by learning good parts of the American dream. For example, we can propose more Chinese block busters as The Wandering Earth on that a group of the Chinese saved the world, rather than being led by the nose of the American films.。

Chinese dream and American dreamIn the passed years,we did’t find that people talked about Chinese dream.However,after the present of PRC Xi put forward this notion in the closed eighteenth national congress,the phrase become heating.We used to hear “American dream”——no matter Martin Luther King’s American dream or gold digger’s American dream or Obama’American dream,so when the Chinese dream comes into being ,we compare them an a matter of course.Some compatriots criticize American dream crucially,saying that “American dream overemphasizes the individual development,and pay to much attention on the pursue of money and power,which has nothing to do with the nation”,whereas most Chinese share the opinion that our Chinese dream ,to achiever the great revivement of the Chinese nation which is tightly related to every individual dreams, is superior.But according to my view,this is the prejudice towards American.American dream has both generalized meaning and narrow meaning. The generalized meaning is “democracy,liberty,and equality”which is very relevant to individual.Even so ,someone may also hold the opinion strongly that the dream of one nation is more important than the dream of individual.However,have these people thought about that why American dream break away from nation?Because its own nation is powerful enough to be the number one of the paring with American,China is nearly in the second place that not very stable yet.Chinese dream focusing on the revivement of the Chinese nation is also due to the historical reason.China used to be a formidable nation in some special periods ,such as in Song,Qing dynasty.So we say the revivement.But if China is as mighty as American,China may also advocate the individual development.we didn’t,not because we don’t mean to,but because based on the current national condition,we couldn’t.Although American dream may have shortage,but we couldn’t define it as a subject that doesn’t have any advantage at all.For example, America concentrates on the creativity of children more,so that there are more talents in America.But the result is totally different in china.what we have is the talent to get high marks in school,notwell performance in society.we have to face the fact that only under the atmosphere of emphasizing on the individual development,can a nation be so successful in cultivating creativity.All of what I have written is to illustrate that there is no use to discriminate which dream is better,and no need to debate which dream should we support .All dreams are wonderful as long as it can bring motivation,opportunity and happiness to the citizen.I appreciate such attitude and method that is tobe open minded so that learn from others merits in order to improve ourselves.So next time when we hear someone discussing about which dream is better or how bad the others nations’dream are,we should not only don’t join in them,but also stop the stupid topic.One day, after we have take in all the advantage of others and become a true powerful nation,it is useless to talk about it.because the outcome has prove it.。
